Frost

The frost did most of my flowers in.   They look so sad.  Sunday mornings 28F or –2C eh! was too much for the plants.  My cousin Art said it was 18F early in the morning…I think he gets up earlier than me!

It was a beautiful day here yesterday and at the end of the day we enjoyed sitting outside before dark…and had a good round of ball with Chance.

Marigolds on happier days

Last Spring we had a freeze that destroyed most of the acorns. There are very few acorns, so the mice are invading whatever areas they can.  They nested in the passenger air filter of my car again…this time we ordered a new filter off the Internet and put Fabric Softner Sheets along the air intake…we will see if that works. We have mouse poison out in the garage.  I hear many people are looking for barn cats to help with the problem.

My plan for this week is to make Chili and Flat Bread one day, clean up my car, photograph some gravestones, clean up my flower garden and mulch leaves.

We haven't had a frost yet but it has gotten down to 38 degrees F. couple of mornings. The leaves are falling but it is difficult to mulch because our humidity levels are remaining high and the grass and leaves won't dry out. i will also be making chili very soon. Good Winter food.

We had a touch of frost yesterday morning and this morning but this week over nights are to be warmer . We have lots of feral cats here so our rodent problem has been in good hands for years lol ! Our leaves are slowly changing and falling . The weather has been sunny and perfect for getting out in the yard and gardens for clean up , warm sunshine with cool breezes . Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !

We are down close to freezing, but not there yet. Last night was 36 degrees. It won't be long before our flowers look like yours. :-(

Are you doing the grave photos for Find a Grave? I love doing that when I get the time. Sorry about the mice in the air filter again. It's definitely chili-making time!

No frost for us either. Our weather has been unusually warm for this time of year.

Terry took my dash apart and put a screen over any spot that was open. Mice (live or dead) in a car is terrible!

Yes for Find A Grave, many of my relatives have no photos.

Temps got down to the 30's in outlying areas here last night. Only 40 here. I plan to start bringing in glass flowers today. the have to be washed and dried and we have sun for two more days.
Moles and raccoons are doing a dramatic number on our lawn - huge patches ripped up. Not sure what to do. Putting fencing wire down over the patches didn't work last night. Damn critters.

No frost here yet , just nice and cool.
We had cats at the barn when we had horse,
it did make a differences. They were not to friendly.
They were hunters.

Minus 2 C ain't bad. Only stuff in the open will be harmed. Here we had a couple of days that didn't go above 0.

No frost here....still in the 60's at night. If the acorns are few watch for bears also as that is what they feast on too. Get those blankets out!

We have more of a rat problem than mouse but either kind is not welcome and we put out traps and also bait stations.
We have one more sunny day for me to get out there and finish cleaning up. Dug out Dahlias today. Take care,

We've only had a couple of frosts -nothing too bad. The flowers look good in frost, but it's always a shame to see them go.

Is this the usual date for first frosts for your region? I'm thinking this is rather late for you, since we typically get our first one by the third week of October. We are still in the 40s overnight here. I hate to give up on my fresh garden tomatoes, so the first frost is always a heart breaker for me :(

Sometimes we freeze in September so it might be considered a late frost:)
