May Baskets In Progress

The May Baskets are mostly done. I am waiting for some of the  decoupage to dry. My desk is full!  I believe the final count is twenty.  I ran out of sherbert containers and had to use two red plastic glasses.

Desk is a mess

We recycled this year.  Sherbert containers.  I cut the tops off and made a decorative edge.  Then Far Guy took them to the woodshop/greenhouse and spray painted them with left over spray paint.  One is yellow, but yellow took three days to dry so the rest are red and orange.  I punched holes for the fancy pipe cleaner.  I used the Sizzix to cut out letters for the names. They are decoupaged onto the container. Then I added a bit of white tissue paper and filled with candy, I also made paper flowers to hold a Tootsie Pop.

Finished baskets

I think they are real cute.

Once a year I get to play with paper and make something out of nothing and make some little kids smile.

May Baskets

We will deliver them later today.  I will try to get some photos!

Happy May Day!!

I have celebrated this day since I was about 2 years old.  Baskets were made and delivered almost every May 1st for as long as I can remember.

Wow! That's a lot of baskets. I cheated a little. The big sunflower origami basket I made for work last year got saved and used again this year. The flowers on your Tootsie Pops is a great idea. Have fun delivering everything. Happy May Day.

I am delivering mine as well today. Snow mixed with rain and cold! I love your baskets. I wasn't as clever this year. I used chow mein containers.

Your May baskets are wonderful.
May 1st is a lovely day here in Seattle. I wish people were delivering baskets instead of protesting in the streets.

I remember doing this and then we were told this was a Communist holiday so we had to stop making and delivering the baskets. I was jealous of those Communist little girls.

I do not remember May baskets growing up but I have LOVED each year you have shared your sweet and thoughtful May baskets. Have fun!

Wasn't that just crazy? Why should we give up something we were doing because of some other country??

Oh Bless your heart. Your baskets look sooo cute. I'm sure they will be greatly admire and received by all. I thought about doing that this year but didn't get started in time and couldn't figure out what to make the baskets from. You are a pro! Happy May Day to you and Far Guy too!

by the way, we always made and delivered May Baskets when we were growing up. I don't know if kids did that in communist countries...I never heard that they did ....but who cares????

I remember my girls being involved with dancing around a May Pole a long time ago but the baskets were never mentioned. It's a sweet idea.

Oh, good...glad those plastic cups made suitable substitutes. Wouldn't want you to have to gulp down two more containers of sherbet this morning, just to get the collection delivered! ;)
