Well I did it! I accessed his port…I stabbed him with that long needle right in the port without fainting, or knocking myself silly when I hit the floor or getting a sub dermal hematoma, that would require brain surgery and an extended hospital stay and psychiatric therapy after I had total amnesia and only recognized Chance.
Blood returns went just fine and the infusion went off like clock work. I disengaged that long old needle and covered up the owie with a hot pink band aid…and he didn’t die or even get sick.
I was exhausted after all that and came home and took a nap. One more week under the direction of the nurses and then we will do the infusions at home.
Big sigh of relief! I was a TAD nervous…when I woke up that morning it was my first thought of the day. I thought about feigning a sour stomach and retiring to the bathroom for the day…but I soldiered up!
When we get settled in here at home with the infusions, I will train him so he can do his own infusions if the need should arise.
Can you tell that sometimes I irritate him…oh well keeps him on his toes…he thought I forgot the camera at home!
He wasn’t as tired this week, but then he has been on Prednisone for shortness of breath. His last dose of Prednisone is today.
I am finally feeling better and I have finished all the antibiotics for the infection in my jaw. Hopefully the infection is all gone!
Well done. You're both doing well.
Good for you. It doesn't sound really like something you wanted to become expert at, but you did, as you said, you soldiered up. Far Guy doesn't look all that happy having his picture taken like that. He knew where it was going to end up: on the blog. :-)
Amazing the things we can do when we just plain have to. I'm so glad it all went well. And that the nurse is on the mend, too.
Isn't it amazing the things we adapt to as we get older and wiser!
Glad you managed to do it, I don't think I could have. Hate antibiotics, half the time they end up doing stuff to me that is worse than the original infection.
Could someone please take that camera away from her?
You are one brave lady..... I'd be in the next county. Great foresight bringing Mr. Camera along. Have a pleasant weekend.
I admire you. Happy that things went well. Glad to hear your jaw is better too. Wishing you both a good day.
The Bennie had Infusions for his Cohn's disease for about two years
I didn't even want to stay in the room where they did it. Don't guess I would make a good nurse.
You do good---
Hubby here is on Prednisone too. Hoping it does the job it's intended to do. I always thought I wanted to be a nurse (my mom was) but things went in another direction. Now have had some practice, like you. I think I would have felt more secure if I had actually had the training. Good for you for getting the job done! And we like the photos of Far Guy.
Congrats for getting through the infusion process! I'm sure it will get easier the more you do it.
Good for you! Before long, you'll be a pro and forget how nervous you once were. When I first began self-injecting for MS, I was petrified -- it took an hour for me to muster up the nerve to do it the first time. After a while, I just stabbed and kept going. You'll be great -- and Far Guy will soon be smiling, not scowling!
I am so glad that you are feeling better Far Side. You both are very brave in learning these new procedures and before long you will almost be medical professionals what with all the new things you are having to do.
I like seeing pictures of FG and wish we could have some of you too, Far Side. Get FG to take some and post them.
I knew you could do it. I hope the infusions help a lot and that he can have a better summer this year. Tooth infections are bad and I do hope you are free of that. I bruised my left hand shoveling snow in winter and the bruising on the inside of my hand turned into inflammation. I kept thinking that it would stop but it kept getting worse. I was having to manually make one finger go back into place. When it flares up bad I tape the bad finger to the good one and in a couple of days I am back typing and have a lot less pain. Old age sucks.
Hey Far Guy! I think that mustache of yours is really hiding a smile in the photo. Wishing you all the best with this infusion treatment!
Far Side: Glad to read you are feeling better. That was quite a battle with the infection. You are very brave to so the infusions.
What a long struggle, but it does seem like the end is in sight!!!
Good for you Connie.........."what we do in the name of love"...........glad you are feeling better and soon you can call yourself an infusion specialist....minus the income.
Oh my goodness. I probably would have fainted right away. I hope I never have to give shots, because I would just be worthless at it. Thank goodness our daughter is a nurse and she lives less than 100 feet away. Praying FG is home soon and feeling great!
As long as he's aggravated, he's feeling better.
My thoughts and prayers are with you both.
Hang in there! It sounds like you are becoming a nurse extraordinaire!
It is highly recommended that we learn new things along the way to being elderly. I bet you would not have chosen infusions. Good on you for learning this procedure.
So glad that thins are going better for you both. Take care and God bless.
I'm impressed - I'd be useless at that kind of thing. So much to go though. All the best in the world to both of you.
If it makes you feel any better, I held my breath reading that entire first paragraph. I feel for you. I'd be right there on the floor with you, if it had to be me.
Instead of the blind leading the blind, around your house it has been the sick healing the sick. I'm hoping for more wellness for both of you. And good job with that whole port business!
Congrats!! It will get easier after a while.
Hope you are now rid of the infection and all will go smoothly for both of you for a good long time!! :)
It's others have said, I'm sure it will get easier and become part of the routine of your lives. I think you are both very brave and trusting of each other! Glad to hear your tooth infection is a thing of the past.
Hope you are all getting better by the minute and I knew you could do it!!!
