Wistful Wednesday: Recipes

I stopped a few minutes when cleaning out that cupboard that holds my recipe boxes.  Tucked into the back of the oldest box were two very special recipes.

Tricas recipe

I am almost positive that Trica wrote out this recipe in grade school. She loved anything chocolate.

Jens recipe (2)

The second recipe must have been Jennifers from Home Economics when she was in Junior High.

Jens recipe (2)

She had it all down step by step.

Put books on desk                                    Leveling spatula

Put Apron on                                            1 measuring cup

Wash hands                                                Paper towel

Find ingredients                                         Baking sheet

Sifter                                                          2 Coffee Cups

Bowl Two

Liquid measuring cup

Rolling pin

The list continues on the back.

Jens recipe back

Baking Powder     1 tsp and half of a tsp

Vooden spoon

Both the recipes took me back in time and made me smile as I tucked them back into the old recipe tin.

She had to write down "put books on desk" or she would have had to hold onto to them for the entire time she was making whatever it was. "2 coffee cups" is circled to remind her of its importance, I guess. How funny! :-)

Some recipes are more valuable to us for the one who wrote them than for any value to the end result of the instructions.

Aren't those fun to find?! I still have my little bound cookbook I got when I took a cooking class at age 7 that our local power company offered. Has some of the best recipes!!!!

What wonderful keepsakes! Mom often wrote recipes on the back of old school drawings and papers. Isn't that old penmanship paper something, brings back a lot of memories.

They are such great finds. They still today have step by step instructions for some kids to wash hands, put on apron, etc in the FCS rooms today.

Oh, don't you just love to come across something like those recipes. I used to love to look through mama's recipe box. She had all kinds of cards and notes mixed in with the recipes.

I've got a few recipes of favorites in my moms handwriting I still treasure. One specially treasured is her Norwegian Potato Dumplings. Though I can't remember what she called them...:)

Oh, isn't that precious! I ran across some old cards the other day from my ex...telling me what a great Mother I was and how much he loved me. LOL! I threw them out! Never marry a salesman! Ha! Ha!

I love having recipes that my mother had written and used. I was just thinking the other day when I searched for a recipe of mine, if my daughter would some day treasure them like I treasure my mother's.

Well, I bet that took you on a journey through some precious memories. Yes, do keep those tucked away. Someday, someone else will find them and take the same mental journey you just took...
