Firefighter of the Year

Last night was the awards banquet at the local volunteer fire department. The food was awesome, roast pork, real mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, lettuce salad and homemade bread.  Neither of us had to cook..that is a very good thing!

Our nephew Josh was chosen as the Firefighter of the year.  It was in my opinion well deserved, he was instrumental in getting a whole group of younger guys interested and signed up and into Firefighter One Training and First Responder Training.  Firefighter of the year is an honor that is voted on by your peers.   Getting more members was crucial, many of the guys are getting older, and  a new fire-hall will be opening in April ten miles from the other one..so both halls need to be manned by volunteers.   Station One and Station Two..we are very fortunate to have young men of Joshua's caliber volunteering their time day and night.

Far Guy got a ten year pin, he asked if it was the first ten years or the second ten years, they are always plucking him out of retirement because all these young guys have day jobs:)

  2. Congratulations to your nephew. That is a real honor. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to volunteer that much time. My son is a volunteer firefighter and paramedic, so I know how time consuming and involved it is, but it is also very rewarding.

  3. All the fire departments here are volunteer, too. Being a fireman is a HUGE commitment with all the training required and being "on call" 24/7. God Bless everyone of them!

Congratulations to your husband and your nephew.

  15. Way to go, Josh, I bet many girls will be wanting to be his girlfriend.

Durians are best eaten fresh. In America, the Asian supermarkets stock them, they don't taste as nice, but then , they have lost their odor.

  17. Congrats to you nephew!! You must be so proud! Sorry I have not been around here...again! I still have trouble getting on here and hope this goes through. You would think the hubs could help me figure something out here?? I love your blog and just got caught up a little...well this page and all it held! That picture of you and Far Guy dating is priceless. How many people these days go back as far as the two of you...have those wonderful memories and love for each other and the pictures to prove it?? I love it. What a lucky guy that Chancey is to have the both of you. How is my boy anyway? If I ever get another dog, it will have to look like Chance! Thanks for the great blog....you really know how to keep it real.

  18. Congrats to all. It certainly is something to be honored. When we lived in Langley, our fire dept was completely volunteer. And each time the alarm went off, our neighbor would peel out of the driveway. I think he was a latent Starsky and Hutch fan.

Amazing people, who do so much for their communities.
