Almost done

I am almost done with my Mosaic Crochet "Hush".  I did not make my goal of a finish in May, hopefully it will be a June finish. Fingers crossed.

Since Mosaic crochet is worked one row at a time from right to left one row/yarn color at a time there are many ends to tie.

Those tied ends are sticking up and the envelope border has been worked but not closed yet.

Here I folded it over so you can see how it looks as a finished border.

I have already decided what will replace this project...and it involves using up a considerable amount of left overs from other projects.

I ran errands while Far Guy had his infusion yesterday, the usual grocery pick up at Walmart and a quick trip into Aldi and even a quicker trip into Hugos.  Gas for the car was $2.99 a gallon but if you told the cashier it was your lucky day you got 15 cents off every gallon.  A little old lady passed that info onto me...and I in turn passed it onto a young lady with lots of kids in her car.

Supper was a ham sandwich and cherries.

Minnesota Weather: High 71F or 22C  Low was 47F or 9C eh!  It spit rain in the morning.

I mowed the yard in the afternoon and killed some corn field ants..the buggers.

Ants and Xrays

Here is a mound I am watching for ant activity.  It has a trail headed off of it that disappears into the woods.  I put the old solar light as a marker for the small Lilac that is in the left of the photo.  This is in the wildflower gardens East of the house.

I take the riding lawn mower out to apply ant "stuff"  easier than hobbling around and no ants bite my legs.  The Cornfield Ants are very busy this year and are quite a challenge for me.

As for my hobbling around...I had Xrays and there are numerous reasons for left hip, knee, ankle and back pain.  Waiting to see what the specialists say about repairs or if they are all NRTS...not repairable this station.

Me on the riding mower.  I wear a long sleeved shirt that has seen better days, safety glasses and a floppy hat, I tuck my sweat pants into my tall red rubber boots....I am quite a sight. Being a lawn mowing goddess is all about the proper attire.  I wish safety glasses had a nose guard as a branch that I should have cut off years ago keeps hitting me in the nose.

Ants

Not the kind you find at a picnic wanting a free lunch...the mound building kind that pinch your skin and then spit a poison onto the pinch that stings. I know this.  It is painful and maddening!

Ants are driving me nuts....or maybe more nuts.

Field Ants start their infestation like this.  Looks harmless...some holes in the ground.

Pretty soon a mound appears and gets larger and larger.

You can see one of my jars filled with borax and powdered sugar getting buried.   Buggers.  I have some new "stuff" to try...but I am not holding out hope.

Then there are Corn Field Ants...maybe I will introduce you to them another day.

Yarn and Ants

Yarn organization...There is only one word...totes.  I put yarn in totes and sort by color.  I used to have a yarn dresser but the drawers were a pain in the butt...so now I have totes...Far Guy says "easier to move that way."

I have a new mosaic pattern that I am trying...it is a real fun pattern.

I pulled these colors to start with.

Then I added a few more blues to the bunch.  It is a work in progress.  When it looks like something I will take a photo.

Now about those ants...I mowed some areas yesterday and treated some ant mounds.  Field Ants are nasty biting creatures ( they pinch your skin and the apply a stinging agent) and the powdered sugar/ borax mixture does not work on them.  There are a few products out there to control them...completely obliterating them will be a challenge.  Only certain things will kill them...one article I read said to take a shovel full of the mound and move it to a different mound and they will kill each other...I am not sure I have a shovel with a long enough handle.  Some day I may take a photo of the mounds....I opened up a few mounds while sitting on the lawn mower...they really get mad when you disturb the larvae. I met a fellow in the bug aisle one day he said he took a sledge hammer and pounded the mound and killed them as they came out...of course he was a big guy with huge arms...

Oh well the ant fight will continue for awhile.

Bee Happy!

I finally got around to decorating the wreath for June.

Home is where your honey bee!

Yesterday was another warm day ( 91 F) I worked outside in the morning before it got real hot...took care of some Poison Ivy and some ant trails.  I ran out of Diatomaceous Earth...my preferred way to attack ants ...by desiccating their little bodies.  Yes I am real happy killing the Poison Ivy along the roads and at the edge of the woods...and those horrid black ants that bite are just a bugger....sometimes if I stand near a nest they will crawl in through the holes in my crocs and bite me...and frankly that really pisses me off!

See that black line ...that is an ant super highway that goes right by my Lilac that didn't bloom this year and to the base of an Oak Tree.

Splendor Report: Far Guy beat me again...I gave it a good try,  I declared that I won and he got an extra turn and overtook my score.  Far Guy 4 me 1.
