White Tails

We have deer running through our yard all different times of the day.  There is no dog to make them afraid.  They drink the water out of the bird bath and eat what ever bird seed they can shake out of the bird feeders.

One night I saw seven.  That is a bunch...and they multiply.

Not a great photo but you can see the white tail.  The grass is turning greener in parts of the yard.  Hopefully it will rain soon and things will really green up.

Last night I mowed the wildflower garden just east of the house in anticipation of a rain.  Hope it isn't snow. With a predicted Monday morning low of 26 F ...it could very well be snow...and all my snow shovels have been moved to the garage!

  1. We had rain last night. I hauled dirt in buckets and filled some holes in my yard. I broke my dirt rake. I just got my new one at Walmart. Thought it might last “the rest of my life” the way I’m feeling. Lordy, glad the deer don’t come to my bird feeders. I couldn’t trap that monster. I hope you don’t get more snow. Ty for helping me with my pink Iris. It was bugging me that I couldn’t figure it out. Love the tag Aunt Shirley!

  3. I saw they predicted rain but hadn't looked to see how cold it was going to get. Snow won't last long if it does visit.
Deer are so pretty, but can be such pests in your own yard. Dogs do help keep them away, for sure. I still miss Chance.

  4. Rain would definitely be nice, snow NOT!
The deer spent time in the town this winter due to the lack of feed. Our neighbour's cedars have been eaten about 6 feet up. I'm not sure they'll come back.

  5. Snow shovels. Bad karma to move them before the snow free date. If there is such a date. For years I insisted that the shovel on the kitchen porch stay all year, as it had to be lugged up a flight of stairs or through the house to be installed.
I have a good friend who moved with her husband from the Ottawa valley, snow corridor, to
Vancouver Island. They did this to enjoy the relatively balmy weather on the coast. The winter after they moved, Vancouver Island got an unusual snow dump. My friend sent two word emails to all of us. "Send shovels" it said, with a sad face signature.
Oh, Canada. Home of weather-happy folk.

  6. The white tail is a very showy animal with the huge white tail and graceful gait.

  7. NO to snow! You need to get your spring on! I hope that happens soon for you.

  8. If by chance it does snow hopefully it will melt quickly and provide moisture for the grass to green up.

  9. Our grass really needs to green up too. We are supposed to get storms tomorrow...but I think they are talking rainstorms....not snow.

  12. Love the little deer booty! We don't see them in town here (definitely too many dogs) but we see vast herds of them on our drives to and from the bigger cities around us. The hunt is very tightly controlled here so the herds are pretty large. It's not unusual to see more than 20 in a field having a snack!
