One Month

One month closer to spring and summer...and flowers.

My baby brother sent me this photo.

See the bird feeders on the cable in the back?  That is his answer to squirrel and bear problems....sure hope it works.  He has some kind of a pulley system worked out to lower the feeders to fill them. Looks like he has plenty of snow.

We are braced for some rain yes they said rain, snow and winds...but then it is always windy here.  I never leave the house without a hat.

Goodbye January hello February!

  1. Hello February! Expecting temps in the low 40's today ; then back down again for the rest of the week. Such crazy weather we are having this year.

  2. Smart brother!
There is a guy I used to work with that still puts out his feeders even when the bears come onto his deck destroyed the feeders he put in an expensive grill. The DNR here has requested folks to put the feeders away as soon as bear are sighted.
I'm not saying anything negative about feeding birds as we are doing it this year too as my hubby loves seeing the birds -- I do too.

In the summer the feeder is replaced by a hummer feeder and oriole feeder....
    :)
I have enjoyed sitting outside and photographing them this winter!

  6. I thought that was a real cardinal for a second! Lol. What a nice little feeder collection. We have several inches of snow on the way, so I just filled up the feeders for my feathered friends.

  7. What a great idea for the feeders on the line, Connie. I don't know if that would work here or not. Our raccoons are pretty resourceful! They can totally detach a feeder from the pole & carry it off into the woods, never to be seen again. I can't wait for those hanging baskets of flowers once again too. It's 35*F this morning and I've heard we're going to get some rain too, before it changes over to snow. We'll see what materializes. Could it stay warm so we don't get the 12-15" of snow predicted?? We can only hope! ~Andrea xoxo

  8. What a good idea with the cable feeders!
I haven't been feeding the birds since we moved here, they all seem to be quite happy to snack on the elderberries that are all over the place here- we have 3 in the horse pens and several across the road. And of course all the sunflowers that I grow for them, but those are all cleaned up by the beginning of December.

  9. Your brother is pretty industrious and resourceful. Hope that system works for the bird feeders.
It was so nice here yesterday, 59F. The wind is howing today and temps are dropping quickly. I'm ready for spring but not the humidity of summer.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. We went from -1C (30F) yesterday to -22C (-8F) in less than 24 hours, with a blizzard thrown in for good measure. I wouldn't want the rain but will certainly some warmer weather soon.

Maybe I should put a clothesline on my house to run a couple of bird feeders out to the tree? This morning, I had to shovel my way out to the feeder since the snow had blown into all the paths. Let us know how your brother makes out with his.

  11. That is a very clever idea for the feeders. The sun is shining here today - but the wind is howling and the temperature has been steadily dropping all morning. My phone app says it's currently 19 degrees but feels like 0. Brrrr!

Have a great week and take care...

  13. Rain, that’s crazy! As my dad used to say, At least you don’t have to shovel it!
    I love the cardinal birdfeeder.

  18. Good Riddance January! Hello February! It's staying light longer in the afternoons now....Hooray!!! Pretty ingenious system your brother's got worked out. Hope it works!

  19. I've seen that type of pulley system on a YT video and they claimed it worked. I'll be curious to find out if it works for your place.
You are really teasing (nicely) with the flowers. Was another windy and snowy day here. Mostly windy. Very white and minus four degrees right now. :)

  22. Stay warm and safe. Today's snow was wet and heavy and it's still coming down. Husband is out doing the driveway for the second time. They say it will continue all night.
