Ongoing Projects: Christmas ornament

The research and development of the 2017 Christmas ornament is complete.

IT WAS A STRUGGLE.  The ornament I had in mind was just not making it from my head to the pattern to the wood.  I gave up and said “Let’s do this instead!”

One is complete with Chance’s name.  We need to round up some more wood…probably from the carving guys.  I cut out a few with the band saw, and will cut out some more one of these days….I think I have enough wood to do thirty and I need eighty something. ( The rough shape is cut from a piece of Basswood.)

Just to have something in the works to grab and sit outside in the afternoon to carve is a good thing. Having the project underway is a good thing. It is a relief.

You have to make hay when the sun shines!

I always look forward to your yearly carved Christmas ornament. 80! Wow! Your header collage is really nice - good pic of Chance.

You have Amish neighbors? That's another thing I miss about Minnesota.
I imagine choosing the design means you are half way there on your ornament project. I tend to read when I sit outside. I should do something more productive!

I think this is my favorite header. And congratulations on starting on your new carvings for Christmas. You are one of the most industrious people I've ever known, Connie! Yep, you sure make plenty of hay when the sun shines. :-)

Hope you don't get bit by mosquitos when you're sitting out there carving. I was outside yesterday and had to keep swatting them away...but it was terribly damp with the storm. Love the haying photo! Picture perfect scene!

Now THAT is the old fashioned way of making hay! It will be fun to see what you came up for an idea!

Goodness! Is that a current photo using horses for haying?
Glad you guys got started on the Christmas ornaments. Got to feel good. Takes such a long time to do what you two do every year!
I guess we have to appreciate the low 80s this week. Enjoy! And may you have breezes to blow the skeeters away while you carve. ;)

It's always a good idea to keep the hands and mind busy.

Good for you! Wish I could think ahead like you do. I love that picture. It looks so old fashioned. It should be framed and hanging on the wall.

I assumed it was an old photo but now I know it's not. I had no idea you had Amish neighbours.

I agree that is a great header.
Amish farms are fascinating to me - so weed free and productive.
Can't wait to see you latest design.

It is interesting to see the Amish way of life. They live in southern Iowa now. I still remember being at the cemetery and a man was driving his buggy down the highway making a wonderful sound as the horse clopped.

We have Amish down here now. Too much inner breeding so they divide them and send them off...that's what happens in a closed society. We had lots of Amish in Iowa too.
Good for you guys on the ornaments! One of these years you should carve Chance for an ornament....that would be special! If you could do that I would commission you to do a Nitty, Annie, Grace and Miss Peeps!
