Made in Poland

I had some good luck at a garage sale.  I peeked into a box of old ornaments and found five made in Poland Ornamants. Polish Ornaments are glass and hand painted. They were imported into the United States probably in the 1950’s.

Five Polish and one shiny brite

They weren’t marked…so I asked.  25 cents each…well alrighty then!  Should I tell her thay are worth much more than that?  Nope…I am keeping my big mouth shut.  A fair value is somewhere between 6 and 10 dollars each.

Poland

See how Poland is stamped on the cap?  That is how you tell it is what collectors call a polish.  These five were probably part of a set of twelve.  The seller stated that they were ornaments her son and his wife wanted to get rid of.

Polish ornaments are cousins of Shiny Brites.

One striped shiny brite

One of the ornaments was a Shiny Brite…it is called a Stripe.

These are not old they are new, but for 10 cents each they came home with me.

Here you can see how small they are compared to the polish.

It was a good day going to garage sales throughout the city of Menahga.

How about linking this post to Tuesday's Treasures this week?

Nice find. I wish I could use glass ornaments, but owning/being owned by a cat precludes that.

Congratulations on your great find! Yes there are times to keep our mouths shut!

As we say here, "You got a steal!" and you're now able to tell us about it. Did you ever think of mounting your collection so that it can be displayed?

I thought of you yesterday while we were garage saleing. At one there was a big box of assorted Christmas ornaments. Some appeared old, but I didn't have the interest or really the time to sort through them all. Now you are making me wish I did!

I'm thrilled the ornaments are going to a good home - one at will proudly put them on display and value their beauty.

You have a good eye for bargains.

Well, that was fun. Adding to one's collection is always a great activity, especially when the price is right!

Wow that was a great price. I love the old ornaments and don't have a one. My mother used to have a few shiny brights, but I don't know where they got off to. Great find!

I have learned so much about ornaments. Every time I see a Shiny Brite I think of you. Should I begin to buy them for you, or is the hunt part of the fun for you?

Thanks Dreaming that is a sweet offer! No I enjoy the hunt, I am always on the look out for a bargain. I have too many ornaments and some I actually pass up!

It takes some specialized knowledge to know the correct value for collectibles! You've been at this a long time and it pays off. I would have never known...

They are really beautiful, and you got a huge bargain. I wouldn't have anything either. What would you do, walk up and offer ten times the going price? Glad you got them and look forward to their display on your Shiny Brite tree. :-)

They really are such neat pieces of history. I have seen them displayed in magazines that feature Christmas tree set ups. I didn't really know much about their history.
