Happy Father’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there.  I hope you all have a special day!

Usually we go to the Fire Department Annual Father’s Day Picnic..and this year is no different.  Far Guy cooked up some Wild Rice Hot dish and he helped me bake two apple pies..from scratch..well almost I purchased the crusts…that is as close to a from scratch pie as I get.  Most of the food is donated for the picnic..and there will be every kind of pie imaginable. I have been noticing that many of the younger gals bring frozen pies..so I am trying to set a good example…either that or I am passing into old ladydom..and getting fussy about the pies I take.  I put lots of cinnamon in them too..no sense being scotch with the cinnamon in an apple pie.

Happy Fathers Day to my Dad! This photo was taken shortly after he got back from Korea and just before we moved to the farm.  This photo was taken in my Grandparent D’s yard.  That old garage in the background is the only old building that remains on their old farmstead.  My Mom and I stayed with my Grandparents all the while my Dad was in Korea. Dad and me 1952

On account of me this is his 60th Father’s Day! :)

Awwww. Way special picture. Don't you love those bonnets we wore back then? Except, I don't have a picture of me in one. Glad your dad's had 60 Father's Days.

Yes, Happy Father's Day to all the dads. When this picture was taken, they didn't celebrate Father's Day, I don't think. But he was still a dad, all right! :-)

Fireman's Picnics are such a good time, seeing all the rural neighbors. Great photo of you and your dad.

Practically no one bakes from scratch any more, so I am proud of you! I'll bet your pie tin is empty before those who took the easy way out.

Enjoy the picnic.

Father's Day had a rocky road..first celebrated in Spokane WA in 1910..the Woodrow Wilson declared it a day in 1924. Lyndon Johnson declared it as a day the third weekend in June..and then Nixon finally declared it a national day in 1977:)

Since I'm really old, I will confirm that we did indeed celebrate Father's Day back in 1952. It wasn't as commercial as now (what isn't?), but we did mark the Day. My dad's birthday was close to the Day, and it was very hard on my meger allowance!

I have no doubt your pies are the best there!
I buy ready made crusts, too. They're reasonably priced until I have time to try and learn how to do them myself.
Happy Father's Day to you all!

Homemade apple pie sounds wonderful. Any pie sounds great. Great photo of you and your Dad.

The pie sounds perfect. I have often wished I learned Aunt Chloe's way of making apple pie...she used Karo syrup.

You Dad sounds like a wonderful man. Thank him for serving.

I'm with you--lots of cinnamon in that apple pie! Loved the pic. An annual Father's Day picnic sounds like a neat tradition.

Great picture to go along with Father's Day.

LOL! I never thought of it that way. On account of me this is my dad's 61st father's day. ;)

I'd feel like I was cheating bringing a frozen pie--even though I don't make pies--LOL! But so many don't bake at all anymore and work full time and all, so I can see it. Using a pre-made crust--well, these days that's considered made from scratch--ROFL!! ;)

What a great picture! And weren't you a cutie! The picnic sounds like grand fun and I'm sorry but frozen pies don't count. Homemade or go home!
