Busy Day Wednesday

Virtual appointment in the morning, some laundry, I met a long time blog reader Kay from Kansas in the afternoon over at her beautiful place on Potato Lake.  I had a very nice visit and the opportunity to pet both of her dogs!  On the way home I stopped at my parents, they were on their way out to a fish fry with old friends from Indiana....so I walked them to their vehicle.  Dad gave me a hug but there was no smile to go with it...so I am sure he did not know who I was.    I did some grocery shopping for some hard to find items and came home and made supper.  After supper we took Ranger Blue to do recycling and took a ride around the block....a country block is 4 miles:)

Rainbow and clouds

After we got home I wandered through one of the wild gardens.

Black eyed Susans.

My ever vigilant husband locked up for the night.  Apparently he was talking to me and I was not answering ( nothing new about that)...it didn't dawn on him that I was still outside.  I would have been locked out!  However my other baby brother and she who sees robins first stopped by for a visit...she had jury duty yesterday but the case was settled and she got released.  I am very jealous of her getting called for jury duty...I have never been called...that and her hair is turning the most beautiful shades of silver.  I have been working on this grey hair thing for years...and she just started going silver during covid and is way ahead of me! ( Far Guy is helpful...he says he will work harder at helping my hair get more grey.)

Frost, fog and a friend

We went to Detroit Lakes yesterday.  I needed a hair cut...I swear she cut off about 10 pounds of hair at least it feels that way.   In all about 8 inches was cut off...and it is still long enough to put in a bun!  I only get my hair cut a couple of times a year..it grows really fast about an inch plus a month. I go to the place where you can check in online but I didn't.  Next time I will.

It was foggy and frosty when we left.

The sun came out in Snellman.

But then we drove right back into the fog again.  This old barn is really leaning.

I had to wait a bit to get my hair cut so we went to a couple of hardware stores.  When Far Guy dropped me off to get my haircut he went by the grocery store to get a few things...he was recognized by Sonja a faithful blog reader and they had a nice chat.

Sonja sent me an email:
Well, by now I'm sure you know whom I had the pleasure of meeting today. I had to do a double take because I really don't know a lot of people from this area that I might run into at the grocery store.  And I wasn't going to let the opportunity pass and then be left wondering if that was indeed your handsome husband.  I also did not want him to feel like he was being stalked, but it did make my day.

For the record it made his day too!

Hair Hair

While searching for something that was hidden stored in a very logical space, Far Guy found my hair.  It looks a little funny as it has been stored in a peanut butter jar for a number of years.   He held it up to my head and said “It sure is a different color now?”  Ya think?

So we got a few drawers and assorted interesting places straightened up while we were on the wild goose chase that finally ended in success…and I am reminded that we have too much “stuff.”

hair

So I listed my hair on ebay.

One time in a small antique shop on the North side of Fishhook Lake… a little old man kept following me around …finally he asked if he could buy my hair…I grabbed all my hair into a pony tail and held it in front of me…I was afraid he had a scissors.  The old guy made dolls and used human hair….but mine was not for sale that day…I wonder where he is now?

Progress is slow on the before Christmas clean and dust upstairs.  We are easily distracted.

Remember to tell me your favorite Christmas movie to be entered in the 2017 Woodcarved Ornament Giveaway.  I will close the give away at 8PM my time Sunday night.

Hairs

I used to wear my hair up all the time.  Then last fall I got it cut rather short and it is just now growing out long enough to get in a pony tail.  I gathered it all up in a chignon the other day.

What did I notice?  A hair on my neck.  More specifically one hair on my neck that made a nice curl.  A L.O.N.G. curl.  I was horrified.  How long have I had this long hair on my neck?  Who noticed it?  Why didn’t they say something..like excuse me but do you curl that long hair on your neck every day or is that just a natural curl? OR  Far Side lets measure that hair on your neck and see how long it is now..it sure has grown since the last time I noticed it.  No one said anything. Nothing.

I swear that hair was four inches long.  So this is just a friendly reminder to all you old ladies out there..walk run to the nearest mirror and check out your neck. I plucked mine..and whilst I was at it I inspected my entire neck for others that might be popping up ready to embarrass me.

For a number of years I have known about the one rotten little hair on my chin that grows fast..I call it my whisker..because it is stiff and wire like.  I tweeze that one on a regular basis..sometimes I yank it out between my fingernails.

Now I have a another problem to add to the mess.  I have an ingrown hair inside my nose.  My nose feels like it is twice the normal size and it hurts and throbs along with my pulse.  I asked Far Guy to tweeze the offending hair in my nose last night..I put hot water packs on it ( A hot wash cloth covered my finger that I put up my nose)  He said “Do you know you have thousands of nose hairs?”   “Yes, I know just tweeze some of them in the area I point to”   ..so he held a flashlight up to my nose and tweezed away.

Getting older is not for sissies:)

Vanity is how much?

I am vain, just a little. I like my hair to look good. Not too good, but acceptable. It was getting too long, when my blow dryer time gets increased to more than 30 minutes..I get discouraged. What a waste of time. Last Friday..I had it with the hair..it is just a dirty blonde color anyway, with a sprinkling of grey. I wear my grey proudly..and just need to be grey..but it is not happening as fast as I want it too. So I decided I needed some "highlights" and SOON. My regular gal, if you can call every four or five months regular, was too busy..fine..I grabbed the phone book called a place and sure enough they could fit me in, they took my name (I had to spell it for them, and my phone number.) Far Guy was going to be occupied with his cousins and Chance..so I was free as a bird for my appointment with beauty.

I got to this establishment with the fancy name, and I was not on their appointment list..but could be fitted in. (ding..ding) I noticed that there were no schedule of fees on the wall..you know Haircuts..$20 Perm $40..and then all the long hair fees that are extra. (Ding.. Ding) The beautician without the violet hair lopped off about six inches of my hair. I asked If she would please thin my hair. She could..but didn't. She asked me what color highlights I wanted..well, since violet, purple and orange are way to wardrobe limiting for me..I said "The lightest blonde color you have." She sighed..mixed the color..and foiled me up. I waited patiently, wrote two blogs, and refused five cups of coffee. I talked to a very nice gentleman who got a haircut, glanced into a mirror, smiled and put his cap right back on. I talked to a snowbird that had beautiful grey roots all salt and peppery..but she wanted to be chestnut brown before going south, because she would be stopping to visit relatives along the way. I told her I thought her roots were beautiful, she just laughed and said "Well if you noticed them that much it was time." I watched a little girl about 7 years old..be transformed from the cute little girl she was into a much older looking child..7 going on 14 now with a fussy layered "do"..that will eventually drive her Mom up a wall.

I am finally "done" and can be de-foiled and washed. Well dirty blonde doesn't look great until it is blown dry. The beautician sighs.. I offer to blow dry it for her..I am helpful..I know it is a boring job. She brings out a dryer on a stand and I sit there for another 20 minutes..finally she returns..to flat hair..imagine that..I would have blown it dry upside down..she sighs and says "It has been years since I worked on a head of hair this thick." I am pretty bored with all my beautification by this time.. I have critiqued all the aquage posters that they have on the walls. I have a good birds eye view of their place of business..I have noticed their inefficiencies, I could tell them how and what to do to increase their customers satisfaction..I could tell them which of their employees like their jobs, I could tell them which of their employees make faces at the customers behind their backs.. nope soon enough they will do themselves in..small business in a small town..main street disappearing.

Finally my hair is dry enough so it will not freeze stiffer than a board when I go outside..It has highlights..$113.00 worth of highlights..I probably won't be frequenting that establishment again anytime soon. I did enjoy my time away..three hours to myself..well almost..at $30.76 an hour maybe I should just sit in the car next time:)
