Happy May Day!

I hope that something brings a smile to your face today!

The May Baskets are finished.  I made 20 this year.  The racoons are filled with candy... the baskets themselves are made out of paper...the pattern requires 17 pieces to be glued together.  I like playing with paper almost as much as I like playing with yarn.   All the paper for this project came from the stash in my desk:)

I put a bit of tissue paper in them for a pop of color!

And they are in a cake pan ready for deliveries!  (When I was growing up we always put our homemade baskets in a cake pan or muffin tin to make deliveries easier...my baby brother and I would hold them in the car).   Let the smiles commence:)

If you took a May Basket to a friend...young or old..tell me about it!

  4. May baskets are not a tradition I grew up with. You put a lot of effort into these.

  7. Brings back memories, though our May 1 baskets were not nearly as interesting as yours. We usually just picked some flowers and put them in a basket and hung that on the door knob of a neighbor. I'm sure by the time she saw them the flowers were very wilted. We were probably under the age of 10. But interestingly today, when I realized it was May 1 I thought of those days and smiled. You are carrying on the tradition!

  10. Oh those are cute! Do you remember the books called "Things to Make and do"? they had instructions for May baskets in them, we used to make those as kids and hang them in a tree; mom and dad would fill them with candy during the night. Fun!

  11. I've never done May Baskets. I do remember one teacher in grade school who had us make May baskets and even set up a May pole somehow in the playground so we could weave crepe paper around it. I can't remember but I think we had to sing a song while we did the weaving dance. But she was it. You would have liked her. :) The raccoon baskets are really cute and the colored tissue paper really jazzed them up!
