My days of "mothering" up close and personal are pretty much over. My role as caregiver takes over my mothering ability/energy. Yes, I am still available to my daughters, son in law, grandchildren, great grandchildren and assorted in/out laws but in a limited capacity. I can still give advice or an opinion when asked...sometimes even without asking. I am pretty much past the holding hand stage. "Be careful when you cross the street look both ways" she said covering her eyes.
However...there is someone who has the energy to do the "mothering" in our family. That is our youngest daughter Jen who is like a mother hen gathering all her chicks/cats...you know cats?
Usually children can team up...Jen has no back up. Our oldest daughter Trica struggles with alcoholism. She was a good Mom at one time, but the disease of alcoholism took over and has robbed the entire family.
Jen cares for her elderly parents, making sure we have what we need when we need it. She often asks "What can I do for you Mom?" She has nine young adult children ( her boys and their gals and then Trica's daughters and spouses) in her life that may/may not need guidance/financial assistance/ groceries/a good home cooked meal/ a soft welcoming place to land for a bit. She has a very busy husband who needs attention too. Then her three great nieces and great nephew with new great baby on the way to spoil, love and mother. (She will be in the delivery room)
AND then there is Sadie.
Yes being a dog mom is a very important job too.
You have Jen who must absolutely take after you in so many ways. Helpful, considerate, caring, and empathetic.
ReplyDeleteYou want to send her my way?
Just kidding, she is a keeper for sure.
Happy Mom day. I/we don't do anything for it the kids are far away and none of the mom's are still with us.
I am a good dog mom, mule mom, and pretty decent spouse so I suppose that counts.
Have a nice peaceful day.
Happy Mother's Day to you and Jen!!! Where do you think she learned all those nurturing skills? She had a great role model! You are very blessed to have Jen and she is very blessed to have you! I agree with you on the dog love too....lol! I've always said I get along with animals better than people but that might be because they don't usually talk back...lol! Have a great day!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was my comment above...
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother’s Day!
ReplyDelete(I know only too well the effects of alcoholism on a family. Thankful Jen is a mother hen to everyone. Hope she is loved well today!)

You are lucky you have Jen. I feel strange now that I am no longer the one "who takes care of things" but it is nice to know I, too, have other women in the extended family who have taken the role. Women are wonderful. Happy Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post and kudos to Jen and all the moms in our lives.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute to your daughter!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother’s Day!
ReplyDeleteJen sounds like a Godsend and is very busy.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day, Connie, and Jen and all the young mother's in your family!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful tribute to Jen. You did good!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a beautiful Mother's day Connie. Your Jen sounds like a true charm and a huge Blessing. She has a lot of responsibilities. I am so sorry for the struggle that Trica has. I know all too well how alcohol can destroy a person and their family. My youngest brother had an issue with this but God answered my many prayers for him. Hope your day is filled with overwhelming joy!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this beautiful post about your wonderful daughter , Jen. I am always learning more about you and your family and I love it. Happy Mother's Day to you and to all of the mothers in your growing family.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tribute to Jen!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's day!! :)
Your flock seem to be great at looking after people. Happy mother's day.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to you and Jen. Thank you for your honesty. So often we share only good things while inside we're hurting. Various family members read my blog and I can't be open about situations that exist. Nevertheless we soldier on, doing our best to show love and support.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to you and all the moms in your life.
ReplyDeleteThe comment about loving dogs more than your children resonates...in my case it is cats. Not all the time, but there sure have been moments. :)
What a tribute!
ReplyDeleteJen must have learned from the example you set. Now it's her turn. And someday one of those young moms in the next generation will carry on. Happy Mother's Day!! This was a lovely post.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tribute. I am a caregiver to my husband, also,, and applaud Jen and the role she has taken on.
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing Jen is in you and Far Guys life, and the entire family indeed. I'm sure she learned to be a loving caretaker from the example that you set for her. So far we've heard from two of our three children, but since Alex is flying somewhere over Quatar right now I guess he gets a pass! :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy, Happy Mother's Day to you Connie. Thanks for being a friend to me through the past years.
Blessings and love,
Betsy
Bless you for this beautiful post. And bless Jen as well. I'm sure she learned from you!
ReplyDeleteI love hearing these words of praise for Jen. So very sorry about Tricia. We have family who have dealt with that as well as some friends. It is so difficult on everyone but especially sad what it does to the person under the addiction. Prayers that God could intervene in a mighty way through a good program. We have a few in this area that have been successful for both men and women who have had and kind of substance abuse in their lives.
ReplyDeleteI had lunch on Saturday with a group of friends from over 30 years ago. We talked about passing the torch and letting the next generation lead the march and mothering. You are blessed to have Jen to step into the organizer role in the family. It is a big job and she is doing fabulously! She learned from the best. I know all the grandchildren and greats love her dearly and appreciate her. Tricia is in my prayers as I know she is in yours.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet and beautiful tribute. God bless you and all the Moms in your family.
ReplyDeleteWat lief om zo Jen in het zonnetje te zetten!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet to put Jen in the spotlight like this!
DeleteI have both boy and girl children who are grown and have families of their own. They live mostly very far away from me and I don't see them much which makes me sad. We stay in touch. I thank God for them all. Linda, imagesisee.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Mother's Day wishes to you and Jen! Jen is a blessing, I am sure all of the kids and those greats are blessings to her. I admire her strength!
