Sprung

Spring has finally sprung here in Minnesota.  The warm temperatures this week made everything pop out of dormancy.  Green is all over...and pollen coats most surfaces outside.

The Chokecherry's are blooming.

They begin  to bloom as tiny white dots.

Oh and the Oaks...we call the stringy male things ...danglies.

Pollen filled...uffda.  The wind carries the pollen to the female trees so acorns can form.  The danglies fall to the ground when they are dried up and spent...they are messy but the lawn mower mulches them up nicely.

It is not an easy time for Far Guy...he is still fighting a respiratory exacerbation...now he has pollen,  wildfire smoke and ozone to contend with.  We hope for rain to stop the fires and clear the air of smoke and pollen.   He is back on a different antibiotic.  Needless to say he is discouraged.

Supper last night was a steakburger, carrots and tator rounds.

Weather yesterday;  87 F or 31 C eh.  Sunny and warm, we watched a few thunderheads go by in the afternoon.  One more day of warmish weather and we are to get cooler temperatures and a chance of rain.

    1. I like it so much that you say both Fahrenheit and Celsius for the temperature, because I only know C. It's hard for Far Guy, understandable that he's discouraged.
Lots of strength with that for both of you.
      Greetings from the Netherlands.

  2. That is a lot of stuff in the air, for sure. Hoping you do get some rain!

  3. My friend here (on oxygen 24/7) has also been feeling all that pollen. It has been windy and dry again too, but at least we've avoided smoke from big fires so far. I've never noticed those pollen filled dangly things on oak trees before. But we don't have many oak around here.

  4. Yummy on your supper!
We are pretty much past the pollen - - Hooray! Those strings of beads - - the dangly things, get stuck on our shingled room and have to be removed with a leaf blower. We did have some white fuzzy pollen after those dangles but it may be gone, too. Now we are hot and humid. The nicest weather is when the pollen is high but we can't cope with breathing a lot of it either.
My heart hurts for your precious husband. Sickness can be super discouraging. Very thankful he has you because you take very, very good care of him. Prayers for him.
Yesterday was "roll your own" for food - - more than a couple of reasons. Bill ate Campbell's Chunky Soup - - one of the spicy varieties.

  5. My youngest will plow a large pile of those oak stringy pollen things every morning while waiting for the bus. I see all the pollen left behind on the edge of the street and am very thankful I don't really have any pollen allergies yet. I can't imagine how miserable those that do much be feeling right now.

  7. The rain started here yesterday afternoon and will continue all day today, and off and on for the weekend. It seems you get our weather a few days later, so I definitely hope it reaches you soon.
Wishing Far Guy some relief soon too.

  8. Yay! We got a couple of good days with temps in the 70's and even 80s', today is a high of 55. Bring me 65 any day and I will be happy.

  13. The oak pollen is horrible for me. Turns everything yellow. I think it turns me yellow on the inside.

  14. Yay for your green!
Pollen, not so good. While here the layers of pollen are mostly washed away, the bloom continues from one sort of plant or another. While I am usually not bothered much by it, this year something has been making me miserable. It mifght be the cottonwood trees, as their "snow" drifts far and wide.
My battles are nothoing, though, compared to FG's, and yours. May the new greenness of spring raise your spirits.

  15. I do hope his health improves. Lovely photos! Today in Montreal it is warm and quite humid, actually. I went out to the store (I take the bus), and the bus driver had the air conditioner on! Yes, it is that hot. Drink plenty of water and stay safe.

  16. Far Guy has my sympathy. The pollen is bothering me and I don't have his other problems. No rain yet, just thunder.

  17. I hope you get a good rain which sure should help with the pollen problem.

  18. Spring has sprung here this week too! We also watched thunderclouds go by yesterday but no rain. Unfortunately. I just opened the windows for the first time all week but I think dusting yesterday was a exercise in stupidity. Because, as you said, pollen.
We're praying for Far Guy and you. I know the worry is miserable for you too.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

  19. Yum...Your supper last evening sound so good. I can only imagine how difficult this time of the year might be for FG. And to have smoke in air would have to add to his breathing difficulties. I would say that Spring has Sprung.

  20. Hoping you guys get some rain to wash that stuff out of the air. The Far Guy needs a break!

  21. My blue car turned yellow with pollen and dust.
    Hope FG feels better soon.

  22. Sorry to see that farguy is not improving faster! I have had a terrible cough and I think some sinus stuff since January and it isn't going away. The doctor hasn't done much good nor the Pulmonary doctor. They send you on your way after about ten minutes at the most. Praying for farguy!
