Finally the first Robin visited our yard and I got a photo!
Far Guy was out feeding the birds and came in to tell me to come quick…so I grabbed the camera and the Robin was still in our yard.
First Robins In Our Yard:
April 19 2008, April 11 2009, April 5 2010, April 4 2011, March 23 2012, April 27 2013, April 9 2014, April 24 2015, April 21 2016, April 5 2017 and April 29 2018.
We miss the pair that used to build nests on the ladder and then on the ledges on the east side of Far Guys garage. We hope that some other pair will take up residence some year.
Soon the migrating birds will be coming through…grape jelly and oranges are on the grocery list. (Oriole and Scarlet Tanager food)
Saw a Butterbutt (Yellow Rumped Warbler) this week, no photo yet, a Mourning Dove visited and a Bald Eagle has been soaring through the yard…looking for rabbits no doubt…that have gone missing. So much for my bird report!
I read that there was a lot of birds heading north and to set out those exact items. We had the Robins at the start of April, but they were in trouble because of all the snow storms we had.
Yay! Spring is definitely here. And I see this is the latest in your list, but 2013 was only two days earlier. :-)
Yep, I kept telling my robins to go north as they were in large bunches. I saw yesterday morning a migration line of smaller ducks in the sky. I have never seen that ever in my life. They were half the size of Canada geese and were dark in color. I was amazed as to how long the line of birds that were there even though they had a “V” shape at the beginning.
Great photo of your first robin!
Lee feeds the birds but we mostly get some small black bird that remains anonymous and squirrels. We do see robins but none of those that you see. Maybe it's because we are in a town and not in the country.
So you have a little tend here for robins returning about the third week in April. Then there's the March return. always interesting when there's something out of the ordinary.
Lucky you. We have Robins, but no babies yet.
Robins are back, mourning doves, juncos...and I saw my first thirteen striped ground squirrel Saturday! And now we could hit 80 today?! I guess we really are skipping spring. :(
How could I forget the noisy, bossy grackles--LOL!
Bird watching even if its only in our back yards is always a fun thing to do.
I keep my binoculars handy these days.
According to your bird report, this WAS a long winter.
Such a nice photo
It's official! Spring has arrived for you! We finally started getting some Spring weather this past week and now the birds are all singing their glorious songs. Today I hung the hummingbird feeder and hopefully they will arrive soon.
Oh, I am so happy for you!!!! Are you the 'she who sees Robins first' this year?
(ツ) from Cottage Country Ontario , ON, Canada!
Keeping track of the day you see the first Robin is a good idea. I used to do that for Hummingbirds.
Hurray - surely it's spring now - or at least very soon!
