Discouraged

We are discouraged but it could be worse…we were reminded of that as we spoke to a friend whose husband was buried ten days ago.  Dead is worse that having some port problems.

Far Guys port is severely occluded, now even the fancy smancy too expensive pump will not push the liquid gold through his veins.  We made a mad dash to the infusion center and from now on he will have a normal IV there until the doctors and Far Guy figure it out.   It ties us down, but where do we go anyways?  Not far.

Sometimes it is dangerous to leave the boonies.

Now…what do you think the proper response is when another car tries to force you off the road…go into the ditch, let them hit you from behind or tromp on it to get ahead of the bums?   It has happened to me twice in the new passing lane on the way to town…being a nice old lady I go to the right lane in case someone wants to pass me…not any more ..no more Minnesota nice for me. I am taking that left lane if a vehicle is in sight.  I refuse to yield to idiots that want to come along side me until MY lane ends.  If I hadn’t been driving I would have taken a photo and reported them. ( One time I tromped on the gas and sped ahead, the other time I stomped on the brakes before my lane ended in the ditch…those rumble strips are awfully loud.)

When I called them some really nasty words Far Guy said “Calm down sweetheart.” I think they were probably on the phone and distracted…I would like to see mandatory jail sentences for phone use while driving.  Throw a whole bunch of them in jail for six months and impound their vehicles and sell them at auction….that would stop a few distracted drivers and save a few lives….then again we as a society cannot even get the drunks off the road and out of vehicles… something is rotten in our traffic laws/court system. Discouraging isn’t it?

Boy, can I relate to you with the driver situation. this has happened to me a number of times now and it's enough to make me not want to drive anymore. I have had it up to the hilt with distracted drivers. I was rear-ended at a stop sign by a your guy on a cell phone. They should make a device that shuts off your cell phone when the car is running. As for Far Guy, I am so sorry to hear about all his port .problems. At least you have a place to go to until things get worked out. Hope you have a nice weekend.

I've got my fingers crossed for Far Guy's port problems to be fixed somehow. I would be discouraged, too. And distracted drivers are everywhere, even though here in Washington state you get a hefty ticket for talking or texting on the phone. :-(

Hope thenFar Guy gets this issue resolved soon. Too bad phones just wouldn't work in a vehicle and if you really needed to make a call or send a text you'd have to pull over into an approach to do it...of corse then you have to always be watching out for stopped vehicles.

Hopefully all works out for Far Guy. You sound like me with driving and other drivers. last Saturday I took an eight hour defensive driving class. I'm now rethinking how I handle those kinds of drivers. And of course it's all about how I handle myself and not let them get to me. it would be too much to write about here. However the roads today with cell phones really make it dangerous. I totally understand.

We've had similar experiences while driving the motorhome! Big doesn't always make a difference. Mr. Dreamy has mentioned leaning on the air horns when a vehicle is next to us and the driver is on the phone. Yesterday we passed a truck going significantly under the speed limit. The driver was texting. I would have loved to have seen his face if the air horns blasted him. He might have needed to change his drawers!

Oh, also meant to say how sorry I am that Far Guy's port is having problems. However, being on this side of the grass has its benefits!

Oh the frustrations! Hope that port issue gets sorted out sooner rather than later. We have a new law here that you aren't allowed to hog the left passing lane, although I'm not sure how they are going to enforce that. There are fines here for using your phone while driving, so now you sometimes have to watch out for someone that suddenly pulls over to take a call. There seems to be more idiots on the road, people doing stupid things, but also people that just don't seem to know the basics, the common sense part of driving.

It is terrible that you are having this port problem. I feel for you and hope there will be a solution soon. In the meantime hang in there both of you.

I wonder if your doctor or doctors could make a call to the University hospitals and see if they have dealt with the port system. I know chemo does not clog things like that but maybe someone down there is working with infusion transfers. Chemo can burn out veins but they can run flushes through a vein to neutralize it. My late wife had a port but it did shut down. They had to put in another one. They didn't use to do surgery so it was a trial and error thing to hit the vein. Those were scary days. 40 years ago.

I hope they get the port matter fixed soon.
I think they should have stronger penalties for being on cell phones and for being drunk while driving. I can hardly wait till cars drive themselves and we won't have to worry about foolish human drivers.

I hope your hubby gets his port situation fixed, and that you drive safely and without any more close encounters with dangerous drivers.

Hope Far Guy gets things sorted. As for your driving experience - I used to have a little device with lights and buttons on the dashboard. There was a different button for 'machine gun', 'rocket launcher', 'laser' etc - lights went off when buttons were pressed and the appropriate sound was made. It didn't actually DO anything - but it felt great.

Don't give them that power over you (making you mad and stressed). Sorry about the port :-/. That is something to worry about!

I hope your husband's problems can be sorted soon. As for the crazy drivers... they seem to have no brains at all. Just this week I was coming down my street ( that has no center line painted) and this truck was coming at me in the middle of the narrow street. Short of driving up on someone's lawn I could do only one thing. I stopped. I figured if he was going to hit me then so be it but at least it would be his fault.

Over here we have laws that can fine one big time or have their license taken or even jail time if caught texting or talking on a phone in hand and the cops here look for that in their ride programs where they take an area every day and pull people over to check for drinking and driving and other impairments like testing or chatting on the phones , you can talk on the phone here if it is all hands free whilst driving . I am glad you were ok after all that on the road I would of called them every name in the book if they did that to me Papa here just lets them get on with it . I hope you and Far Guy can get things all sorted out soon and all goes well for you both . Thanks for sharing , Have a good weekend !

Since I have a need for speed, I'd just take the fast lane. This ole gal can motor pretty good!
Hope that you insurance covers the costs; it's pretty sad that they soak as much out of people as possible when it comes to health issues. Taking advantage of the vulnerable.

I agree with you about people and cell phones. When I am out I like to watch out for other drivers and I am amazed when I see so many talking on the phone. What is so important to these people that you can't wait until you are at home to be on the phone. Whatever did we do all those years ago before the invention of cell phones. It is quite a worry. Can you guys just get the port replaced??

I'm with you on swearing about the idiots on the road. Just think what a swearing duet we could be! people have to be caught. I doesn't matter about the penalty. they have to know that they can be caught. Getting busted stops that nonsense.

LindaG said...

Very discouraging. So many people do it, that unless there is another reason to stop or cite them, they often don't.
What the heck is so important you can't just drive?
Ugh.
Hope you all have a blessed weekend, Connie. You are in my prayers.
