Second Snow

It snowed again...our second snow ( Monday night and Tuesday morning).  Wouldn't you know it...the one day that I had a Doctor appointment at the butt crack of dawn.

I learned how to inject myself with a new medication (Humira) for my Rheumatoid Arthritis.  I hope this one works.  I was sick for about 24 hours...tired...and felt like my bones were burning up but I was chilled.  Go figure.  I have to do the injections every two weeks.  Good thing we have good insurance as it is about 6K a month and our insurance covered all but $34   I am not sure how anyone affords the medication without good insurance.

Then Far Guy had an appointment later that morning.  Dermatology...there were some areas on his head that I thought looked suspicious for skin cancer and the Dr called them pre cancerous, so she froze them.  She also took a biopsy from the top of his head...no results on that yet. He survived.

By that time the snow was melting on the roads.

Since then the snow has melted off our patio too.  So the second snow is not sticking around.

Beth got to come home from the hospital on Monday.  She will recover slowly at home.

Second Snow

At this rate Winter will be here early.  The third snow usually stays:(

We woke up to the second snow.

By afternoon it had melted.

We had a fairly productive week.  Only two more windows to wash and the screen door.  It may or may not happen.  Ranger Blue was cleaned out before the cold weather and windows were washed.  We brought in "stuff" from the garages that would freeze.  Far Guy cleaned up Tilly's garage and did some work in the greenhouse/woodshop.

Leaves were blown around and mulched.  One more time around the yard might happen.  So far I have mulched our yard seven times this Fall.  I mulched at my other baby brothers...he has lots of leaves yet to fall.   The leaves in our yard are 90% down.

The last of the ant hills were doused with borax/powdered sugar.  The no trespass signs were put up.

Are we ready for Winter...not completely but in the next two weeks we should be.

Our quiet snowy day yesterday was spent mostly inside...Far Guy began painting the Christmas Ornaments. We watched Blue Jays and Juncos out the windows.   I cleaned the bathroom and did some laundry and organized some craft stuff.

We both are a bit headachy and tired from the high dose flu shot.  Naps were high on our priority list in the afternoon.  Far Guy cooked supper...hamburgers without a bun but with some bacon, waffle fries in the air fryer and peaches.

Shoveling etc

Shoveling...  The snow was real heavy and would have made excellent snowmen.  On the second round of shoveling my nephew Josh came by and finished shoveling the patio for me after he cleared the snow from the driveway and in front of the garages....what a sweet guy!!

My other baby brother and she who sees Robins first stopped by to say hi when I was outside shoveling. They were not quite ready for snow either.

In between the first and second shovel exercise sessions Far Guy rescheduled his Infusion appointment so we took off to town and got him all taken care of yesterday vs going today when it will be snowing again.  I even managed to order a few groceries online and picked them up...just a few basics... milk, oranges, bananas, grapes, potatoes and cheese.  We will place a full grocery order someday when the weather is better.

Success... baking the second loaf of bread...we put it on parchment paper to rise and then in the oven on a regular cookie sheet with a pan of water on the bottom rack. It sure is easy enough to mix the dough in an ice cream pail...I would say it is a winner recipe.  It makes two nice sized round loaves of bread (after mixing them up they can be kept in the ice cream pail in the fridge until you want to bake them...well within a week).  We both agreed that raising it and baking it on parchment paper works well.  The fresh bread was wonderful with my vegetable soup and Far Guy's Gumbo.

I am working on Christmas Cards and a new crochet project...actually I have three or four crochet projects going at once...some will be Christmas Gifts...I am using up some of my stash.

I hope everyone is staying safe out there...Covid seems to be on the rise all over.

Second sNOw

I could say it isn't so...but one look out the window tells a different story.

The Juncos are still here...they bring the snow ya know?

They flit around under the feeders kicking up snow hoping for a seed to become airborne...silly birds.

There were five inches at the snowstick just before dark last night and it was still snowing.

Far Guy and I got the odd left over Fall jobs done yesterday morning as it began to snow.  Far Guy pounded the snow stick into place for me.  The water hose was found under some crusty snow, the patio table was rolled to the garage even though it was covered in ice.  The lawn mower was moved into the Desoto garage along with the three wheeler.  I doubt that I will need the mower anymore but I would like to clean it up before storing it for the winter.  I rescued the rain gauge and the trail cams will have to go on "winter trees vs summer trees"...because neither of us is climbing through a snowbank to get to them.   Snow shovels made there way to the front door and to the garage.  I got out my winter boots and will have to find my parka very soon. I washed up my red mowing boots and put away my sun hat.

This morning I will shovel. Because more snow is forecast.  Seems like I barely got the leaves done and now I have snow to keep me occupied and out of trouble.

Back To July Revealed

October 30, 2009  Something is in the air?

Good guessing, nope not a hot tub room, exercise room, potting shed, boudoir, studio or even a love shack. It is a Sauna! Our daughter and son in law no longer wanted it..so they moved it to our yard. It caused quite the excitement in the neighborhood. My brother Jody offered to do the dirt work and the septic system in exchange for some Saunas! It does not have running water.. we sauna the old way..carrying a bucket of cold water, and a bucket of hot water. It is an electric sauna, you have to turn it on about an hour before you want to go and sweat. You throw cold water on the rocks to create steam.. when you have had enough you soap up and throw water over your body..or run to the house totally naked and take a shower! Twenty minutes in the Sauna burns as many calories as an hour of exercising..who woulda thunk it.

Dressing Room.

Let's Go In!!

Cedar Benches..and a bucket of water.  The brick on the rope is the counterweight that closes the door.

The electric sauna stove..the rocks heat up and when you throw water on them they create hot steam.

I do love taking a sauna, when I was little it was what we did every Saturday night for our bath. Sauna night was an occasion. My brother and I would go, our Mom and Dad would scrub up our hair and make sure we were rinsed off really well and dressed in our Jammie's and then we would trudge up the hill to Grandpas house. ( This Grandma ( my Fathers Mother) died when I was just three years old) While our parents were in the sauna, we helped our Grandpa set the table for coffee and we would play a game of checkers with him in the front room. We would never win those checker games either, but we had fun trying. When our parents came up to the house, we would have something that our Mother had baked..sometimes cookies, sometimes cake..sometimes fresh bread with butter.. and coffee in a saucer. I have been in many different saunas over the years, but that is the one that I think of when someone says "Sauna."

So Far Guy and I go to Sauna at least twice a week ..sometimes more. Chance waits patiently outside. Our sauna has two rooms, the dressing room and the sauna itself..it is pretty small..but it works great. We have steam wars..taking turns throwing water on the rocks. As with anything, you have to start out a little at a time. We need to look for an actual Sauna Thermometer..Far Guy has some wimpy thermometer in there.. I can't see anything in there anyway..it is way too warm to wear your glasses in the sauna. If someone wants to come to Sauna..bring your own cookies, and yes Far Guy and I will wear a towel to sauna when we have sauna company! :)

Happy Snowy Halloween From Chance!  Is this a trick?  Nope..we have snow:(
