Birds

A Indigo Bunting visited us for a few days.

Such a pretty guy!

Yesterday we noticed a Bluebird at one of the nesting boxes.  Fingers crossed for a good hatch.

The latest flag.

Minnesota weather; High 66 F or 19 C eh, Low was 40 F or 5 C eh.

Last night supper was BLT's and raspberries.

Far Guy continues to recover...slowly...he feels a tad better than a few days ago. ( Probably due to the Prednisone)

Progress

I bought a new pole for my flag outside the door.  My old flag pole was too darn difficult to attach a flag and this one works better.  I have enough flags I could change them every week.   (years of collecting)

This is the one I chose for a week maybe two.   The Loons are here down at the lake according to my baby brother.  I have not heard them ...but the Canada Geese are honking when flying over and the Bald Eagle circles above in the trees.  ( He is looking for small critters to eat as most of the road kill has been consumed.)

The patch in the side yard might be grass someday.  If it doesn't rain soon I will have to get out the water hose and tend to it myself.

I have been selling some stuff...a very Vintage 1970's love seat left the house yesterday!  One less thing to clean around.   It was fairly ugly... it was useful when youngest Grandson Adam was a little boy ...he could stretch out on it and sleep very comfortably. (He grew)

I bought a set..a sofa and this love seat from friends Bonnie and Rueben when they got new furniture about 1999.  Chance claimed the couch but never the love seat...so it was almost as good as the day I bought it.  No one ever sat it it anymore...Jen used it for a luggage rack.

Progress is slow but still progress.   Trying to look at the bright side of things!

Supper was salad and a Philly on a pretzel bun.:)
Weather: High was 69 F or 21 C eh.  Warm for the first part of May.

Flags for Veterans

Last week we witnessed flag delivery high on the hill where my parents are buried.

A few vehicles parked at the bottom of the hill and children emerged with flags.

My brother asked one of the little girls for a flag since Dad's flag holder is not at the grave yet.

My Grandmother's Gold Star flag holder on the left and my Dad's flag on the right.

Since we were there last week my Mother's day of death has been inscribed on the headstone.

Half over

June is half over...boy that sure went fast!

Soon it will be time to change the flag again.

Not much happening here, yesterday I cleaned the bathroom and put a few things away.

Started on a baby blanket.  Watched a true story on Netflix called  Molly's Game.   It was interesting and I give it an 8 out of 10.  My shoulder is doing pretty good!  A bit of pain if I do too much but Aleve helps.  My Doctor checked on me yesterday as she is going out of town.

We had a simple supper...breakfast...scrambled eggs and bacon.

Appointment

An appointment up North took most of our day.   Three hours there, I sat in the vehicle while Far Guy was in the Clinic, we visited Andy and Jen had supper with them, then drove three hours home again.

The other day I finally got the Fall flag up!

Holding

Far Guy is in a holding mode...a tiny bit better ( he can breathe better and is not turning purple)... so he is not worse but I am still keeping an eye on him.

Someone said the "S" word again...it has turned cold here.

I changed the flag. I vacuumed out the car.  We had to make a trip to town for an online order pickup and checked on his new old car.

Far Guy may get his new old car back this week.  It has new brakes, a new fuel filter a original one not electric and some new hoses.  I sure hope he feels up to driving it home...

Hanging around

We figured we would just kinda hang out yesterday. Ended up making two trips to town...ordered some stocking stuffers and misc stuff and could not get suet for the birds...ordered that from another place to pick up later in the day.  Lots of people in town Main Street was packed.

We always have deep conversations while in the car.

How much was an issue of Grit back in the day.  Was it weekly? yes... Far Guy says he was almost a Grit Delivery Boy but  he had to be gone for the summer so that didn't work out for him.

The conversation turned to other Newspaper Delivery Boys like the one who showed up at our home in North Moorhead every Friday night to collect.  Far Guy said his friend Danny delivered for the Star Tribune and got in big trouble when he spent all the money on some kind of candy that was in a chocolate cup that had a paper square with points on that you could collect...and Danny had a big box full...was that Valomilk??  or some other candy...??

Anyways I recall reading Grit from front to back sometimes more than once before the next issue came.  I read where in the 1960's it cost 20 cents and the sales boy got to keep 7 cents.  On the application it says are you a boy?   How sexist is that?  As if girls couldn't sell as well as boys.

Ha! It looks like Jinx is standing on the windmill blades when in fact he is hanging around waiting for the flag .

So much for our exciting day.

Update: The candy was Mallow Cups, they came with a cardboard piece that could be saved up for more candy. Far Guy says "A five cent coupon now sells for ten dollars on ebay."

Finally

It took me a couple of days but I finally got the Fall flag up.

This is my usual October Fall flag...I have had it for many years ...like about 20 years.  We used to have a Hallmark Store in town that carried Toland Flags....if you ask me there is no other flag that compares in richness of color or durability.  I have not been compensated in any way for this review.

A scarecrow, pumpkins, a pesky crow, apples, corn stalks, falling colorful leaves and sunflowers...what is not to like.

Our local Walmart finally has curbside pickup...the app is pretty cool...we can check in when we leave home and when we park at the pickup spot it was only a matter of a few minutes and someone brought out our order.  Easy Peasy. Far Guy thought is was much better than the local grocery store pickup.

Sunset as we left to go get our order.  We saw one deer when we left and five when we came back...the ditches still have green grass so guess where the deer are?

It was a chilly day...I mulched for the neighbors....one place was so heavy with leaves that I could push them into the woods with the lawn mower.   My brothers and their brides visited in the afternoon out on the patio ...they said in the winter visits would be real short because they were only staying until they get cold.

Far Guy still has discomfort but is improving slowly.
