11 and 14
2 + 4 + 4 =14 ha!
Number 11 was wearing a Coonskin Hat...he took it off for the group photos.
His baby brother Number 14 is getting bigger!
This is Erwin...he has two older brothers and a older sister. So far Erwin holds the baby spot...he is 15 months old.
Always fun to see the children of my other baby brother! Some of the older ones are driving cars now!

Photo Bucket List: Flax
I have a photo bucket list. One of the things on that list was to photograph a field of Flax.
Yesterday Chance had to go out early so after he did his business we headed out. My other baby brother told me about a field up on the prairie.
Flax only blooms for part of the day.
I will wait a few days and go back again. There are new flowers everyday…until it is bloomed out and the seed heads are formed.
Flax fields are rare in this area. Of course there are different kinds of Flax…oilseed or linen seed. The oilseed type can be used to make a flour, as a cattle feed or pressed for their oil. The linen seed type can be used to make fiber that can be spun …it is called linen (The stalks are dried and pounded and the fibers spun.)
It has been 60 years since I first saw a Flax field south of Lake Park Minnesota late one Sunday morning on my way to Uncle Theron and Aunt Skip’s house. I have never forgotten what a beautiful sight it was.
Baby Buffalo and Lightning are still on my photo bucket list.
We have smoke in the air from the fires in Canada.

Assistant Wedding Photographer
Yesterday I helped our daughter Jen take photos at a wedding. The Bride is a friend of Jens. Jen usually only does photos of babies and graduation photos…weddings are a bit more stressful, you only get one chance to capture the moments during a wedding.
I was photographer number 2 …the assistant. Having photographed several weddings with Jen before…we know that each of us sees things differently.
The ceremony took place on a hill near the Red Lake River. There was a bit of a breeze and it was partly sunny and 80 degrees. Guests were asked to bring their lawn chairs.
These Orchids surrounded huge Calla Lilies in the bridal bouquet.
The bride was beautiful. The ceremony was short and sweet and to the point, it was also very musical…with trombones, a flute and even a violin.
Thumbs up! Yes for sure… she was looking for her new husband to give her a ride back to the reception. They hosted the wedding guests at their new home just down the road from the site of the ceremony. Shortly after their arrival they donned aprons and served their guests a wedding meal.
Here is my best shot of the day…the flower girl.
Sometimes you are in the right place at the right time with the right light.
It was a fun day…the newlyweds presented their guests with butterflies to release.
Not sure what kind of butterfly…a Skipper of some sort maybe. It was fun to watch them fly away.
I wouldn’t want to be a wedding photographer…but I enjoyed being an assistant!

Rainy Day Project
“A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away.” ~ Eudora Welty
Years ago I purchased a photo storage system from Creative Memories. It hung around empty. One day last week Jen needed a photo of Maddie…well I made a complete mess out of the old photo storage box that you couldn’t squeeze one more photo into.
I had photos all over my desk…it was a mess.
It started raining here Thursday night and rained all day Friday. You guessed it.
It was a lovely trip down memory lane. I gave up on photo albums back in 1995 when everything went into storage and I was lucky to have a box to stick photos into. Just you try moving three times in four years…four times if you count the 15 months we lived in the camper. Let me tell you sizing down to a camper will make you think twice about what you really need.
Now the photos are sorted by person.
The old photo box that used to be stuffed to the gills has room for more photos.
The Christmas Photos/Greetings that I like to keep have their own box. I am thinking about putting these into page protectors and into a three ring binder.
I am not certain what my next step will be with the loose photos. Photo Albums…some of the old ones we have are a mess…some photos are stuck to pages forever…and some are falling out of their albums. That is a project for another day or three.
For now I am glad all the loose photos are together in one place. Next winter I think I will download some of the photos of the grandchildren and have them printed out at Wally World. I print out very few photos…perhaps it is time.

Moments in Time
The other day we came home just as Josh was walking up to wait for the bus. I got out to take a photo of the bus. Usually their Mom is waiting at the bus stop..however there is something magical about kids seeing their Dad at the bus stop:)

Backing Up
Years ago when Far Guy and I were first married and both College students, we worked for his Father and Mother during the summer. One of my jobs was to drive a big old black 1964 Imperial and a trailer. Far Guys Dad gave me one on one instruction on how to use the trailer brake, how to turn wide..he was a good teacher. Then he attempted to teach me how to back up a trailer. We spent an entire afternoon with him directing me, he had his cigar firmly planted in his mouth, he cussed, he made faces, he finally gave up. I was unbackupable with a trailer..yes I realized that you have to turn the opposite direction that you want your trailer to go..it was still all backwards in my brain and in the mirrors. Far Guy then tried, he wanted me to learn, I could back up straight for a few feet but when I had to turn..I would jack-knife the trailer..it was hopeless. Far Guys Dad finally just said, "OK.. I will try to never get you into a situation where you have to back up. I drove for him for three summers..he was true to his word, I followed him down the road and never had to back up. Forward..I am great at forward.
When I was a member of the Local Fire Department, during a Fire I would drive the Ambulance. I never backed it back into the hall until Far Guy finally put down some Aircraft lane marking tape. I would get that sited in my left mirror and back in straight every time. I need some of that tape in my garage..I cannot back my car into the garage straight, it always ends up crooked. I suck at backwards.
Backing up your photos! I have finally backed all mine up to disc. WAHOO! It was on my list of things to do. I had lots of pictures files to go through, deleting the bad shots and doing some cropping. Finally they were all acceptable and I got them all done. I really should back up my photo files every month.
Friday the thirteenth: I don't put much stock in superstition. Friday the thirteenth happens every once in awhile. Today is a birthday day in our family, we have two nieces that have birthdays today! So Happy Birthday Katie and Bethany! They are 27 and 28 today. Born one year apart, one on my side of the family and one on Far Guys side. Both births much awaited and celebrated! Early valentine gifts! :)
