Stash

I finished one blanket using up part of my "stash."

It is a shell stitch.  I  was not thrilled with the one blue/grey bunch of yarn but it is what it is.

Yesterday was a busy day.  Far Guy tackled all kinds of small projects while I did some laundry and got rid of a bunch of over the hill stuff in the fridge!

We made pork chops and rice for supper with peaches.

Friday night we went out with my other baby brother and she who sees robins first for supper at a local place...the food was good.

Saturday was the Frozen Four Championship.  So we watched hockey in the afternoon.

Minnesota weather:  High 46F or 8C  Low was 40F or 4C.  It rained a little.  It is supposed to be 70F on Sunday...we will see if that happens.  I think we still have too much snow cover for that to happen!

Friday

We finished #19 and #20 of 22 appointments.  Come back in three months and come back if you have problems...alrighty then.

We have had some cold windy days and it snowed huge snowflakes a couple of times yesterday.  The wind is just raw.

A sunset photo that my sister sent from Phoenix where she reports it is very warm:)

Minnesota weather: High 30F or -1C  low was 21F or -6C.  We should see warmer temperatures over the weekend and into next week when it could rain instead of snow...but you never know.

Far Guy, Jen and Andy watch Hockey...playoffs I guess.  I read, work on a puzzle or watch whatever I want to on another TV....lately old reruns of Project Runway Allstars.

Far Guy and I made pizza for supper..it was really good...Pillsbury Crust with Italian Sausage and Pepperoni.

Weekend

Our youngest daughter Jen and the Granddogs came to visit.  Hockey games and Vex Robotics Tournaments on the computer were watched.  Card games have been played, craft projects worked on, walks taken, dogs enjoyed and good food eaten.
Watching Hockey
Miney is inbetween them on the couch.
Miney
Miney inherited Chance’s  red harness…it helps her get down the stairs safely.  Chance would have approved…he always shared with Miney.
Little Elvis
Little Elvis has a spot on the other couch.  He chased squirrels and almost caught them…he got into a bunch of burrs…so he was brushed.

This is their first trip here since Chance died, they looked for him a bit and sniffed spots outside that Chance frequented.  They seem much more accepting of his absence than us humans.

Sunshine

I received this stamp in the mail one day from Kansas…it makes a lovely card!

Fun with a new stamp

Some days you have to create your own sunshine! Tis a good reminder for me…

Our days have been so busy….Dr. appointments…getting ready for a garage sale…finally we have a whole week where we don’t have to be anyplace and I plan to enjoy everyday!

Garage sale #1 is done it was in conjunction with our daughter Jen up north…a city wide sale…and I got rid of lots of “stuff” and got to visit with daughter Jen and Grandson Adam…and meet his gal. (She is very pretty…and shorter than I expected, somehow I pictured her as being really tall!!)

We are enjoying The Stanley Cup finals…and hoping TJ Oshie’s team wins.

The game

Jen and Andy and the boys gave Far Guy Hockey Tickets “on the glass” for Christmas.  For those of you that don’t know… “on the glass” is in the first row. Jen and her Dad had a blast! ( Both really enjoy Hockey) North Dakota vs St Cloud

Far Guy took a selfie

Weeks ago Far Guy was certain he would not be able to go.  We all encouraged him that he would be strong enough to go…and he was.

We drove up North on Friday afternoon. After supper of loaded baked potatoes and salad Andy dropped them off at the arena so they wouldn’t have to walk very far.

I kept Adam company…he had all four of his wisdom teeth extracted on Friday morning.  He was doing quite well, not much pain so we watched a bunch of Forged in Fire episodes. Chance enjoyed seeing Miney and Little Elvis…but he growled at poor old kitty Chaucer.   We drove back home after the game..it was late…the last 50 miles we didn’t meet another car on the road.

Game day Jen and Gene

Before the game photo.  Oh yes North Dakota ( now the Fighting Hawks used to be the Sioux and for Sioux Fans Sioux Forever!) lost in overtime 4-3.

Last Saturday we traveled to see Paige play with her team The St Kate Wildcats against The Concordia Cobbers.

Sadly the Wildcats scored only one goal to the Cobbers two goals.  It was still a fun game to watch.

We got to see her for a few minutes before she boarded the bus back to the cities.  I asked her what she was going to do on the bus…sleep was the answer.

She also got to see her nephew Mikey for just a little bit.

Mikey watched the game and was especially interesed in the Zamboni…typical for a little boy!

Paige: Hockey and On a Stick

Last night we attended Paige’s last Hockey Game of the regular season.  There will be some play off games in the coming weeks.  She is tied with the record holder in her High School for the most goals in a season in Girls Varsity Hockey.

Paiges Hockey game

Paige is number 5 who ever gets that number next has some big skates to fill.

Action Shot Paige

It was a good game and Paige’s team won.  She skated hard and handled the puck well.

Paige has her own cheering section, she has a number of friends that don’t play hockey but they make a great cheering section.   They made a Paige on a stick!

My other baby brother and his wife were also there to watch Paige play.  My Dad stayed at home, he was not feeling up to attending the game. It was a cold damp night and hockey arenas are cold places to spend an evening.

Well done Miss Paige!

Paige: Hockey

Tuesday we went up to Bemidji to run a few errands.  We stopped to see Savannah and also saw our daughter Trica.  We shopped at Hobby Lobby and Kohls, had supper at McDonalds (It has been about two years since we have dined there where the food is still greasy and salty) and attended Paige’s Hockey game.

It was a good game and all the girls played well.  Paige made the only goal.  They lost the game.  They are improving as a Team.

There were a couple of Coaches scouting for their teams.  After the game we gave Paige a quick hug and sent her off to talk to the scout.  She has one solid offer and two others that look promising.  The one in Michigan looks the best to me, it is a guarenteed four year scholarship…plus the posibility of a booster club scholarship. But it is a long way from home.

Who knows if she will become a Lion, a Wildcat or a Tommie…or maybe something else…a Beaver maybe…a Fighting Hawk is not likely.  She wants to play College Hockey and it seems she is good enough.  She also wants to go to college for Pre Med.

She will be visiting schools in “The Cities” and in Michigan after the hockey season ends.  Then she will have big decisions to make.  She is an honor student and I am certain that she will make the right decision. What ever she decides we support her and look forward to College Hockey games.

Glamor Gal to Hockey Player

Last week one evening we attended an evening Hockey Game.  Paige’s team was playing locally just 32 miles from us.   We met my other baby brother and his wife for supper at a Taco place and then we all attended the game.

It was a good game.

Far Guy wishing all the players Good Luck!

Paige’s team won and Paige assisted with one goal.

These girls had a really busy week with three Hockey games (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and then the winter formal on Saturday night.  I asked Paige what she did on the bus, she said “I studied and then I slept.”

Paige went to hockey camps/conditioning and training all last summer.  She hopes to play hockey in College in two years.

Let’s Play Hockey: Paige

The weather has been mild so we took time out to go to a High School Hockey Game.  A Girls Hockey game.  Our youngest Granddaughter Paige was playing.  She plays Varsity Hockey.

Paige Number 5

Paige is number 5

Paige and the puck

Paige has great Hockey skills.  She has played hockey since she was about six years old.

Paige in front opf th goal

Here she is in front of the goal…too bad she didn’t have the puck!  The ice was fast…yes depending on the temperature of the ice…it is either slow ice think Figure Skating or fast ice for Hockey…and this was real fast ice.

Good game

It was a good game even though they lost 0 to 5.  Thief River Falls has a great team.

Black and White

This is one of my best photos from the game, it could be an ad for Bauer!

Good job Miss Paige!  We stayed to congratulate her on skating a good game and then we headed home.

Robin, Paige,TaDa and Hockey

One little Robin is frequenting the yard.

The robin

Usually they make a nest on the east side of Far Guy’s garage invariably on top of a wooden ladder that leans against the garage or behind the rakes and shovels.

Robins nesting platform

Far Guy made them a nesting platform.  It will be interesting to see if they use it.  It’s not much to look at…an old shelf bracket and a piece of wood, but it is sturdy.  He described it to me as a “Nesting platform with it’s own perch.”

We had an ice cream date with Paige this week, it was too windy to sit outside and enjoy frozen Lake Bemidji while we ate ice cream so we just sat in the car…Chance thought that was great, he sat in between Paige and Maddie.  You know it’s spring when all the Dairy Queens open.  Other people may take DQ’s for granted…not us people in Minnesota!

Paige 15 years old

Paige’s 15 year old photo.

Paige is attending a Hockey Skills School, she was a little nervous. Right now she is a level one going for a level two…I told her to stop being nervous and just skate her best. Paige really enjoys Ice Hockey.

We have a new little addition to our family.  My baby brother called, he has a new Granddaughter in Oregon.  Mother and baby are doing just fine! As of yet the baby remains unnamed so my brother is calling her “TaDa”  this is grandchild number three for him.  Number four is due next month.

The Sioux/North Dakota lost Thursday night to Minnesota…it was a tense game…especially the last period.  We are Sioux fans but we now will root for Minnesota to win the Frozen Four!  Hockey Season is just about over.  As for the riots in the cities…you riot because you won how stupid is that?

Shopping, Sioux, Shower and Sugary Treats

Oh my it was a busy weekend.  The shopping commenced and we were successful and I am pleased to report we are almost done..just a few simple things to purchase for stocking stuffers!

Jen and her Dad went to the Hockey Game.   Still the Sioux to most of the fans.  They both wore appropriate Sioux clothing!  I stayed home with the grandboys, every once in awhile they would come and check on me. “Need anything Grandma?”  “How you doing Grandma?”  Finally I requested popcorn as Adam knows how to make that in the microwave. ( I can almost hear them. “It is your turn to check on her now..I had my turn.”) Adam and I watched TV together and I had a nice nap.

Our daughter Jen hosted a Baby Shower for her friend Sarah.  Sarah will be birthing twins in mid to late January.  I have known Sarah a number of years..she is the grandboys “School Mom” as she works in their school.

Jen helped me to create a diaper cake… it turned out really cute.
Sarahs Diaper cake
Yes there are one of each…I was hoping for two girls..but a boy and a girl will be perfect younger siblings for Jacob age three.  Uffda…Sarah will have her hands full.  I figured she could use a few diapers.

Later that same day was the cookie exchange at Jens.  Yes, I brought home 11 dozen cookies of all kinds.  Just the two of us could never eat that many…so a few will go to woodcarving and a few later in the week to something special…and some will no doubt head home with the grand girls next week. I think a half a dozen cookies to exchange would be just right.  One of the gals was headed over to the nursing home with all her goodies…I thought that was a wonderful idea.

Jen’s tree is up and all decorated.
All three dogs  Miney, Little Elvis and Chance

Jen’s tree is beautiful.  I had fun wandering around it looking at all the ornaments.

We headed home late after all the doings.  There wasn’t much traffic and we enjoyed Christmas lights all the way home.  It was very cold with the temperatures hovering at –18 F or –27 C.  We are supposed to warm up a bit this week..I will have to see it to believe it.

Gift count: almost done and awaiting deliveries.   Gifts wrapped: none.  Cookies made: Complete!  Christmas letters: Complete!  Homemade ornaments: Complete!  Homemade gifts: Two complete and one in progress.  Decorations… the snow outside, a pine cone wreath, the Nativity and a flag outdoors. Oh and 3/4 of a Shiny Brite Tree and a partial tree downstairs.  Christmas menus: Planned!   8 days and counting.
