Stewpid

I had one day this week where I was easily irritated.  Just ask my husband.

Nothing irritates me more that Stewpid.

We were at “The Helpful Hardware Place.”  I knew what kind of top soil I wanted, I quickly located the bag..low and behold there was no price on the bags and no price was on the standy uppy thing nearby.  The very nice gal that was selling flowers outside called inside the store to find out the price.

I went inside to pay for my purchase.  I know the cashier quite well, I told her “ Several pallets of soil are not marked outside, please tell Brad that I complained.” One of the store helpers overheard what I said, she said  “Everything outside is marked.”  “No it’s not.”  “WELL it certainly is, maybe the rain washed off the price.”  I said “Go look.”  She  was out there scratching her butt head, I walked by and said “Looky that the rain washed a whole bunch of price placards away.”

Let’s just say we will never be fast friends….I prefer people that have at least half a sandwich for the picnic and at least one oar to row the boat.

Flower Garden Planted June 2

It was a nice day yesterday.  I got the small garden planted yesterday.  Now hopefully the squirrels will leave it all alone.

Glass Flower

This is one of the glass flowers that I put out in the small garden. I am slowly getting them carted out of their storage spot.

Impatience

The time for patience has come and gone.

The all elusive Medicare Card Far Guy has been waiting for is never coming in the mail.  It seems some supervisor of another supervisor has  stacked us into some kind of immovable spot.  Someone at Social Security has to look at our file and declare it OK and push some stupid key seven times.  I think it has to do with our change of address from last August..but I am told it has nothing to do with that whole situation.  Yes we have another call into SS…seems we call them once a week and nothing happens.  We were told by one worker that we have been high priority since December 23, 2014.  How’s that grab ya?

The refrigerator quit working.

The refrigerator is an Amana and we have had it 15 1/2 years.  I am not certain it is worth repairing but we have a call into the repairman if it is just a relay switch it will probably be good to go for another few years.   The refrigerator just died whilst we were cooking supper.  Far Guy opened it once to get ice and when I opened it a minute later the lights were off…both of them and the compressor is not working.

What a way to start the week…they say troubles come in threes I wonder what will happen next?

Grinch Like

Cross one holiday off the list and lets get the other over with soon.  I am not much for holidays…I can become depressed very easily.  Turn the calendar from one month to the next already.

Why?  I don’t like shopping…good thing Far Guy says he will help or I would just write checks.  Much of the shopping I do will be online.  I must ready myself for those early morning phone calls from the Post Office about the delivery of said parcels.  I don’t like the commercialism that accompanies Christmas.  I like homemade…simple..put some candy and some peanuts in a bag with an apple and I am good.  I abhor the Christmas music in the stores that began weeks ago …I may start wearing ear plugs.

Although I am not cold and heartless or wish anyone misfortune I am a little grinchy.

So much so that my daughter Jen  bought me a new winter hat.

Connies new hat

Chance is a marvelous hat model, as you can see he was thrilled.

I will wear it proudly shopping.  I might even wear it whilst decorating the trees.  I will wear it baking cookies.  I  could wear it from now until Christmas Day…whilst I finish up  some of my homemade gifts.

The Christmas Spirit is hard to find some days.  I will be searching for the Christmas Spirit all month long.

Gift count: two.  Gifts wrapped: none.  Cookies made : none. Cards written: none.  Home made ornaments: Complete!  Home made gifts: in progress.  24 days and counting.

Thursday Thoughts

I am twisted..yes sick.  The highlight of my day comes on the way home when I slow down to 25 MPH in a 30MPH zone because there is a hill and no passing..and all the tourists and out of state drivers must slow down behind me.  Everyday I wonder how many vehicles can I piss off..yesterday was a good day..three vehicles passed me just out of town but only one gave me the finger salute.  Ha..I think of it as a Minnesota friendly service..cause some days the Highway Cop is sitting there ready to nab people and I have foiled his plans.  I wish I knew what days he was going to be there..I would pull over so the speeding buggers would get a ticket.

Peach daylily

I have had a busy week at the museum.  We have a big “ta –do” near the end of the month.  It is called Civil War Sunday.  I have Civil War re enactors coming in for the afternoon.  They will provide  insight into the life of a Union Soldier what he wore and carried and his everyday life.  It is a free event.  We will sell biscuits, lemonade and root beer floats…and have some Civil War era toys for sale and some coloring books and other books from our gift shop. It is not a big money making deal..but rather outreach into the community.  Maybe we will get a few new members.  I finished all the ads and created the posters and made the master plan that tells everyone what they will be doing. Sometimes I can be real bossy. Although I did ask several people what they would prefer to do.

That week will be really busy with Root Beer Floats for sale on Main Street during Crazy Days, Civil War Sunday and then on Monday a speaker on “The Dakota Conflict” after our regular meeting.

I think my American History teacher may have skimmed over the US – Dakota War of 1862.  During lunch I am reading  all about it. This year is the 150th Anniversary.  Luckily last fall I scheduled a speaker that is a state representative, author and an expert on the Dakota Conflict/Sioux Uprising/U.S. Dakota War…it is all the same thing.

The painting in the museum basement continues…that concrete floor paint really stinks.  I need the two rooms that are torn apart downstairs to be finished and put back together before the big “ta do” in case of rain. Yes some days I watch the paint dry and will it to cure up fast!  The rooms look all fresh and clean.  I am not a big fan of painted floors..but the paint came as part of a grant..so our only cost was brushes and rollers.

I am still the solitary janitor in the building even though the upstairs is subleased to the Fine Arts.  They are above cleaning bathrooms or the kitchen or even taking out their own garbage.  I have strongly suggested that the lease be rewritten to include some cleaning. Yesterday when I washed the front door..I left their side unwashed, and when I vacuum I no longer vacuum their landing.  Of course those omissions are very noticeable to me..but I am sure it will go right over their artsy fartsy heads:(

Say something nice!

It seems like the worm has turned.  Summer is here and along with it came the rain that we should have had last spring along with the snow that we should have had last winter.
It has rained the past three maybe four days.

Say something nice!  My car is nice and clean. All the pollen has been washed from every leaf in the forest.
The mosquitoes will be as big as birds…maybe bigger.

With every rain drop that falls the larger the mosquitoes become in my mind. Until they become the size of the crop sprayers that spread their fungicides or insecticides..or what ever kind of hazardous chemical that they spray on the long French fries so they fit in a box nicely field that is right across from the end of our driveway.
Say something nice!  Think of all the old pickup trucks that can be fueled with the old used French Fry oil.
I have watched people scurry around with their umbrellas and rain coats on.  I had neither..I did have an old beach towel in the car and plopped it on my head as I sauntered to the house one day..through the puddles..I am not sweet enough to even begin melting..and a little rain never hurt anybody..good thing I was wearing my favorite plastic shoes:)

December First

I do declare that the Christmas Season has begun..but only because the calendar says so.. the stores began their Christmas season in August..they better dust off that stuff they have been trying to sell since August.. either that or put it on sale. Who wants to buy dusty old crap anyway.

I would just as soon hibernate until New Years Eve.. that's right I could sleep from the night before Thanksgiving until the eve of the New Year no problem. If I didn't have children, that have children I would totally "ignore the hype" that goes with these holidays.

I just want an old fashioned Christmas, all homemade gifts, someone playing the piano and singing, stringing popcorn and cranberries to put on the tree, reading the Christmas Story out of the Bible by candlelight, going for a sleigh ride. I know, I know I was born 100 years too late. It kind of sucks, everyone else loves these holidays, I am the odd person out, my girls are quite used to my complaining, they tune me out over the holidays... Far Guy too. Yup, I must be related to Scrooge.. I must be his sister.

I believe that my girls always say "Mom and Dad are having Christmas" because they know that if it is at their house I won't drag out even one decoration. Don't mind me..I will plug along through the holidays..I will entertain you with some stories..I will show you some of my Christmas tree ornament collection, it is way to large to be shown in one year...last year I just scratched the surface. I will slowly decorate for the Christmas Holiday. With the emphasis on slowly..

So are you brave enough to meander along with this blog for the next 24 days? Misery loves company.. To my youngest daughter..who will call every day until the tree is up..cause "You know you have to get that tree up before we get there." It is only December first..I still have time:)
