Delphiniums

My Mom used to grow some really tall Delphiniums. She put a wire cage around them to keep them upright.

They were very pretty.  My Dad used to drag the water hose over there and then rest in that chair.

Years ago there was an elderly lady that lived along the West Shell Lake Road that had a huge planting of Delphiniums in all colors...it was very impressive this time of year....now when you go by that place it is just a sandy parking spot.  I never stopped there but always slowed down to see the flowers.

My cousin Geraldine had some really pretty plantings of Delphiniums along her deck at her old place.

Minnesota weather:  High was 81F or 28C Low was 61F or 17C eh!

We had brats, sweetcorn and raspberries for supper.

Far Guy felt good enough to visit with a couple of former co workers.

  1. I think visiting with friends is so important it helps distract from misery.

Those flowers are amazing. I have always wondered how the tall ones like that always stay upright!

  5. I remember my grandmother grew them too. She had lovely flowers, most of which one rarely sees anymore.

  8. I've never grown Delphiniums, Connie, but my oh my are they gorgeous!! I bet you can still "see" your Dad in that chair, can't you. Sweet memories. So glad FG could visit with a couple former co workers. Visiting takes our mind off our "troubles" at least for a little bit. Love, Andrea xoxo

  10. Your supper sounds perfect for a summer evening, especially the sweet corn. Delphiniums must not do well in this area because I never see them here. But they are sure elegant flowers. There was a lady here in Mitchell decades ago who had her whole back yard planted in iris - in every color imaginable. She would sell a few bulbs every year, and I bought a couple of her pretty hybrids when we lived on the farm. But I left them sadly behind in 1988 when we moved to town.

  11. I forgot about delphiniums. I grew them at my former house. O love them. Thanks for bringing them back to memory.

  12. We have always had a few delphiniums in our garden, scattered here and there. They grow tall because of lack of full sun some or most of the day. Inevitably wind or rain cause them to bend or break. But we persist because they are so pretty.

  13. great news that FG had a good day. I do love delphiniums, but just never think to plant them. I need to make me a flowerbed just for this beautiful flower.

  16. I tried one delphinium this spring. It did well, until the heat hit it. Your's are nothing like mine - you have so many stalks! So glad FarGuy felt well enough to visit with friends, that alone helps folks feel a bit better.

  17. Glad Far Guy is doing better. Those flowers are gorgeous. I never had much luck growing delphiniums. I killed them quickly!
Blogger still hates me. I've sent a message to the app designer. Meanwhile, since we arrived home yesterday and I have regular internet again, I'm going to attempt to comment more frequently.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy
