Cataracts and stuff

Far Guy had an eye appointment, he has cataracts...he wants to WAIT to get them taken care of.  I couldn't wait to have my cataract surgery.  I could see so much better.  He got a new prescription for glasses.

We are making progress selling some of some Christmas Shiny Brites and some of the old woodcarvings that were stuck in a drawer.  Less for someone else to sort through some day.

The Shiny Brites were especially hard to get rid of...they were like treasured old friends.

We still have one Christmas tree and lots of decorations...not sure what for.  We are not doing much for decorating around here.

Christmas card report: 16 more were finished drying so the total is now 95.  Yeah me...I am getting tired of watercoloring!  I usually listen/watch sappy Christmas movies while I paint.

Far Guy has completed the Christmas letter!

  2. That is a lot of cards! I hope you show us a photo of the end result. Sounds like they will be treasures to receive.

  3. I look forward to seeing the card, too. I wish cataract surgery was something that would fix my eyes right now, but no. The sight is just going bye bye.

  4. cataract surgery was the best thing ever for my eyes. I opted for the more expensive lens, but Sam did the cheaper one. He now wishes he had done the one I did. Knock on wood, but my vision is so good. You are really making a lot of good progress on the cards. Hopefully someone will stop by and purchase all of your shiny brights.

  5. You're making great progress. I can only imagine how hard it is to let the shiny brite ornaments go. They are so pretty.
My optometrist told me several years ago that I have a cataract in one eye, but doesn't see the need for me to have surgery as yet. I don't notice it, but then again, I'm likely used to seeing as I am. I do know, my eyesight is getting worse. Good luck to Far Guy.

  6. My MIL had a lot of those ornaments and they were sold at an auction. Beautiful!
I only decorate the one are, but of course set up my Legos in another area.
Those cards sound amazing, so much love and care are put into them.

The waited on my cataracts until I could see past the hood of my car. I was not pleased as I am THE driver in our household.
Anyway, waiting is okay if he can still read stop signs. LOL. I couldn't read street signs either so it was getting to be a problem unless I knew exactly where I was going.

  7. You are progressing! I have nothing Christmas out. Gatto makes it impossible to decorate, so I have a built-in excuse.

  8. My Mom has a very special box of those shiny brights! I don't think she'll ever give them up.

My Mom also had the cataract surgery and says it's the best thing she ever did.

  9. You all are doing great on Christmas stuff. It is a blessing you work as a team on it. I am having cataract surgery in January on the left eye and February on the right. Like you, I am so very ready. I need more clarity. It is interesting reading why we lose some of that with cataracts - - basically light is diffused coming through and not able to be that pinpoint that goes to the retina.

  10. My local discussion group has been telling wonderful stories about the old glass Christmas ornaments. My grandmother had beautiful ones. A dear friend of mine passed away and left me his box of very very old ones. I take them out and look at them when sorting through my collection for the season, but I'm afraid to put them on the tree.

  11. Great progress!!!
My cataracts aren't "ripe" yet. The doctor says "you will know". All I know is I wish I could see more clearly.

  12. Cataract surgery made absolutely no difference to my eye sight. Disappointing but apparently it doesn't always help. It must be hard to let even some of your lovely Shiny Brites go but hopefully you kept your favourites. GM

  13. I treasure the one Shiny Bright that I have of my Mom’s - lots of memories of Christmas’ past.

  14. I watched a sappy Christmas movie yesterday while working on some binding. Kind of my guilty pleasure this time of year. LOL Dave has now begun to develop cataracts. Like you, I was so eager to get it done. Easy procedure and my eyesight was so improved right away.

  15. I have a few Shiny Brites that I inherited from my neighbor when she moved to assisted living. They are hanging on a garland in my dining room. I think of you when I look at them.
Each year now I think about starting to get rid of stuff, but I haven't yet.

  16. I know it’s hard getting rid of stuff you enjoyed, but it’s the right choice.

  17. Hurray for husbands that write the Christmas letters. Dennis and I both have the "beginnings" of cataracts but they don't seem to bother us much except the "halos" around lights at night. So my answer is that I just try not to drive much when it's dark. Especially on the highway.
You're doing great on the cards. Yay!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  18. Wish I was there, I'd love to have the opportunity to buy those Shinybrites! We put up bubble lights on one of our smaller 5ft trees along with tinsel, a reminder of my Childhood!

I was so happy to get my cataracts done.
