Viola

The 6th mulching was accomplished.  We cleared out the grates that are in front of the door and in the walkway.   The weather sounds like it will turn rain/snowy and cold again.  We are caught up with lawn work for the moment.  Perhaps the rain/snow will bring down the last of the leaves.

Menus were made for the week.  Kuchen was made for a night out with friends.  This time I experimented using dried cherries in one of the kuchen...we will see how it tastes!

Supposed to be rainy and very windy here today. Hopefully most of the leaves fall off so i can mulch again one of these days. Kuchen sounds so good. Haven't had one in ages.

A little bright spot in the garden, how pretty!

It's below freezing here this morning but we should get up to near 10C (50F). It's election day here in Canada so I'm hoping the weather won't keep anyone from voting.

Dried cherries in Kuchen sounds delicious. I bet you will get rave reviews. We had a crazy fall weekend, temps in the low 70's, sunny and beautiful. All the orchards and pumpkin patches were packed.

A Russian/German dessert. It has a sweet roll crust and is filled with a custard that has fresh or dried fruit!

Kuchen with dried cherries - MMMMMMM - sounds yummy! Dave cleaned up leaves again Saturday and also trimmed lots of tree branches. That may prove to be perfect timing as we are expecting 50 mph winds later today. But we still need to clean out our gutters.

That's a pretty little cheerful flower. We have purple ones here that pop up in odd spots.

We've had rain here for the past several days and more predicted today and tomorrow. At least it's not snow, we would be up to our eyeballs by now if it was.
Kuchen sounds yummy. I remember when my Grandma used to make it often.
Blessings,
Betsy

We're still waiting for the leaves to drop. Not sure what the hold up is this year. We had terrible weather yesterday but they are all still up there.

I saw a wild violet in bloom up at the old place. It is funny how some of the plants just hang on forever. Cold and wet here with winds coming our way today.

I believe what we call Platz around here is much the same as kuchen. A thin crust with fruit topped with streusel crumbs.

My aunt's used to make kuchens using pie fillings - cherry, apple, plum, peach. Oh, the holidays were glorious! They made struesels too. That was many years ago. Thanks for bringing me back good memories!

Congrats on getting another mulching done...and isn't that viola a beaut! Not such good news here....hubby came down with a cold today. Can I keep from catching it with only one week to go til surgery? I'll do what I can to prevent getting sick. Lord have Mercy. Pray you're both doing well!

The kuchen sounds great. I've heard somewhere that dried cherries are rich in anti-inflammatories and good for arthritis.

It is quite tricky getting the timing down to get things down outside that is for sure. And now rain again most of the day Monday. This weekend we heard the farming trucks running late into the night trying to get some crops in.
