It was frosty here on Monday, I heard it rained a bit and it was slippery out in the early morning.
I made it to my PT appointment just fine. I am tired ...but that is nothing new.
I spent the afternoon sorting photos and getting up to stretch and walk around every little bit. Far Guy watched Movies on his I pad.
We had leftover calzones for supper.
Minnesota weather: Frosty High 28F or -2C Low was 21F or -6C eh! Nice weather for January!
Far Side
We had to travel 96 miles to straighten out something because someone was not doing their job correctly. When we got there we asked them "Why" they said "We have no idea and this is the first time this has ever happened." We got it straightened out and drove 96 miles back home again. Of course they made many apologies.
The first part of the drive was very frosty. We saw Bald Eagles and Vultures on a deer carcass. We saw someones prize bull had been hit by a car...we wondered what the car looked like. I took a photo of the big old bull but shall spare you.
As you can see we have hardly any snow. On the way back there were some interesting clouds.
We enjoyed the warm afternoon...I think it broke some records.
I managed to make it to the Post Office before we left so all the Christmas cards and packages have been mailed. I think the gal that works in the Post Office had a partial lobotomy.... as I handed over the bag with 130 Christmas cards she asked "Are any of them overweight?" I smiled and replied "Weigh them all if you wish." She threw the bag on the floor and sighed. At least this time she was wearing a mask...however people that came in to check their mail boxes were not. I almost asked one guy what his problem was with masks...but I decided to keep my big mouth shut...and that was really REALLY hard for me...so I just bit the inside of my cheek (I am certain my lip quivered) and glared at him.
A bit of history...my lip quivers if I am really really angry. I am going to practice my evil eye look in the mirror until I get it perfected.
Far Side
We took a drive through the refuge yesterday. Only the very east side had frost.
Not much was happening. There were no birds and only a few deer tracks. We always hope that we will see a wolf. We admired all the sign posts that were newly painted last fall.

At least down at Tamarac Lake there were some fishermen.
Day fishing is allowed in the refuge. The shelters must come down at dark. That little blue cube on the right is a portable fish house.
It was a nice day about 27 F. Very nice weather for January.
Chance enjoyed the outing, he loves our little adventures almost as much as we do
By the time we headed back home the sun came out and there were just a few frosty areas that had not melted in the warmth of the sunshine.
The moon was out.
Jack Frost paid a visit. At times yesterday the sun almost made an appearance, my eyes started to hurt and water but the sun didn’t make it through the clouds ( since my cataract surgery my eyes are sensitive to bright light).
The frost was beautiful. I had to do some Museum business so we went to town and headed north to Itasca State Park.
The entrance to the park we wanted to use was closed, so we took a different way home. Today we discovered something we didn’t know. A historical site marker for a CCC Camp where Far Guy’s Dad was in 1935. The snow was too deep to explore the area properly and too far from the highway to get good photos. We will return to the newly discovered spot when some snow melts.
Bad Medicine Lake just off that point is an island obliterated by the fog.
Came home to stalk some snooty Chickadees.
I also found some time to play with manual settings on my camera. So far it has been a frustrating experience…I must be a slow learner. One day I took no photos at all I was so disgusted. I am sticking to it one miserable shot at a time until I either master it or go back to automatic settings.
It was 27 F or –2 C yesterday. Wonderful warm weather that we all appreciate after that cold spell.
A little good news, the High Efficiency LP Furnace is apparently quite efficient. We called for a LP Fill and the delivery guy said that many people have filled twice and three times to our once. We used 231 gallons in 106 days…not too bad for as cold as it has been. I have the thermostat programed perhaps that helps too. We still miss the outside wood heat, but we are adjusting.
It snowed..the ground is white..but since I am in denial we won’t talk about it anymore.
The other morning we had some heavy frost. It was lovely. Very sparkly in the early morning light.
This is a Tansy that escaped Far Guy..I like Tansy..it is yellow.
Tansy re-seeds itself all over. It is one of those really wild flowers that thrives on drought conditions. So it grows real well in the wild gardens.
Far Guy wants to keep it under control..so he yanks it from the ground before it has a chance to form seeds.
Chance and I wandered all over the yard in the frost.

I will wallow around in denial for at least another day..then I will put my big girl snow boots on and tromp around in the snow for the next six months:(
The hoar frost and snow fog was awesome yesterday morning. I think the roads were slippery in the early morning.
Chance and I went out to capture some frosty views.
He is the best model and companion for early morning outings.
The snow fog blocked out the sun all day long..so there were no Ground Hogs seeing their shadows in my part of Minnesota yesterday.
Lollygagging has officially begun. I am taking some time to just do whatever strikes my fancy for 15 days. I am going to nap if I want too..I am going to spend an entire day reading a book if I want too. It will be like a mini vacation right here at home:)
