Mural Art

Back in the Winter of 2022 our daughter Jen was exploring different art ideas.  She sent for a tile from  The Mural Mosaic Global Roots Project in the Midwest Region.

1500 people painted tiles.  As I recall she was asked to paint something mostly blue the color of the sky.

Her tile arrived the same day that her Aunt Jan (Far Guy's sister) died on April 21, 2022.

Jen painted what was heavy on her mind that day.

The mural was unveiled in Port Washington Wisconsin in April of 2023.  Jen and Andy visited the mural yesterday.

Here is a link to a photo of the entire mural.

Isn't it wonderful what artists can create together!

Until we meet again

The funeral for Far Guy's sister is today.

The rose bush near her mail box that was full of blooms one year when we visited her....the dew was still on the roses.

One of the things she always told her brother on their many phone calls was that she loved him and she would see him in heaven.

Sad News

Yesterday Far Guy's sister died.  He spoke with her shortly before she died.   She died from Metastatic Breast Cancer that spread to her brain and throughout her Nervous System.

They were very close siblings, each leaning on the other throughout their lives.  Jan was well loved and will be missed very much.

One of her favorite Hymns, she sang it to her Father on his last day.  Her husband played it for her yesterday.

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling—

  Calling for you and for me;

Patiently Jesus is waiting and watching—

Watching for you and for me!

Come home! come home!

Ye who are weary, come home!

Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,

    Calling, O sinner, come home!

Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading—

Pleading for you and for me?

Why should we linger and heed not His mercies—

Mercies for you and for me?

Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing—

  Passing from you and from me;

Shadows are gathering, death-beds are coming—

Coming for you and for me!

Oh, for the wonderful love He has promised—

Promised for you and for me!

Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon—

Pardon for you and for me!

Easter Weekend

 I should NOT complain....but I am a tad cranky.

It doesn't seem like Easter time here, if I were hiding eggs outside I would have to traipse through the freaking SNOW.

It snowed off and on all day Friday and it was rather chilly.  21 F or -6 C eh!

I tried to do too much with my thumb ...seemed like everything I did was a pain...grinding the pepper mill, shoveling the walk, lifting drawers upstairs and washing dishes.

I have a plantar wart...not sure how I got it...but I do know someone else who has one and I do go barefoot most of the winter.  What a pain in the foot....we will try to get rid of it here at home.

Well you know what they say about a frown...it is just a smile upside down.

The bunnies at Andy and Jen's home always make me smile.

Ceramics from a long time ago, the basket is Mother of Pearl.

My parents seem to be getting along ok at their new digs.

We remember and pray for those on Hospice.

Wistful Wednesday : 1951

This is a photo of Far Guy's big sister Jan. She had a birthday last week, she got older. This photo was taken in 1951 when she was six years old.

Far Guy's sister is a retired teacher and lives far far away in southern Indiana with her husband of 41 years, and a dog named Ernie ..he is a Silky Terrier. They have one daughter who is unmarried..so they are not grandparents yet.

She is a pretty good sister, she only dropped Far Guy on his head once when he was little. She is a good sister in law even though sometimes I irritate her with my blog...not with this one though, I never actually mentioned how old she is. She is a good aunt, and our children were both spoiled rotten by her. When they were little she would visit and read to them for hours.

I chose this photo, because I think it is really cute. I wondered about her blouse and the skirt with shoulder straps, were they "store bought" or "homemade" Far Guys Mom was a very accomplished seamstress. The fancy collar on the blouse could have been made by her maternal Grandmother, or it may have been purchased and attached to the blouse. I believe the buttons and their placement say "homemade." The wool skirt with straps, was very typical of the early 1950's and very fashionable back then. A proper slip was a necessity as wool would make you very itchy:)
