The 90's

My Dad's birthday was yesterday.  He was 96 years old.   We had a small get together for his birthday and for Mom's birthday later in the week.  Mom will be 93 years old.

They are in assisted living.   Dad seems more confused everyday.   He was diagnosed with MDS  or Myelodysplastic Syndrome which means that his red blood cell production has been disrupted.  Left untreated it can become leukemia.  Right now the only symptom he seems to have is fatigue...he sleeps a lot during the day and last evening when we showed up for the birthday get together he was in bed.  So I woke him up and helped him get ready...my brothers and sister and their spouses were all there.

I pray many times a day that my Dad will just go to sleep and be done here on earth.   He has fought the good fight...I think the race is over for him....but God must still have a plan for my Dad.

Until we meet again

The funeral for Far Guy's sister is today.

The rose bush near her mail box that was full of blooms one year when we visited her....the dew was still on the roses.

One of the things she always told her brother on their many phone calls was that she loved him and she would see him in heaven.

Time

Is it the times or our age?

Many people that we know are struggling with health problems.

My cousin Sam's wife Kathy died on Friday from Gallbladder Cancer, she fought the good fight and had Doctors from Mayo Clinic taking care of her.   The year that they gave her to live quickly became weeks then days.  She was 58 years old.

Far Guy's sister remains at home with Hospice care.  Far Guy facetimes with her every day, sometimes I pop by and wave and say Hi or hold Sadie up so she can see her...she needs to talk with her brother.  She has Leptomeningeal carcinoma a result of Metastatic Breast Cancer.    February 17 she was given a few weeks to a few days and she is still hanging in there.

We have other friends...with medical conditions...Granular Glass Fibrosis, Mylelofibrosis, Follicular Lymphoma.  Big bad words.

Time...time to build your own ( pine box) coffin, write your obituary,  plan your service and wrap up loose ends.  Some people are greatful for that extended time to get their house in order and prepare.

On a side note if the building you store the pine box in is for sale you should move it or explain to prospective buyers beforehand!

Prayers for comfort for all those struggling with health issues.

Far Guy's Sister

Far Guy has only one living sister and she lives in Southern Indiana.  She noticed a numbness in her face last week.  She was admitted to the hospital with a subdural hematoma.  The Doctors are waiting to see what happens next, she may have to go to surgery, or they may send her home...time and more tests will tell.

She spoke at length with Far Guy, the hospital is full and nurses are over loaded with patients.  These are uncertain times we live in, nothing should be taken for granted...not your health or an empty hospital bed should you become ill.

Our days are numbered for us before we were born, so be thankful for everyday.
