I needed to cross something off my list. My Father's Veteran flag holder. I picked up the flag holder from the local American Legion as suggested by a very nice neighbor Phyllis! I have had the holder all Summer we just have not gotten around to placing it until this past weekend.
Far Guy pounded it into the ground, it will be there next Memorial Day for the flag.
I also refreshed the flowers in the vases on my parents headstone.
I tucked a flag in with the flowers on my Dads side of the headstone. The trees at the cemetery are beginning to show some color.
I will try to bring different flowers for the Winter...it all depends on the weather. For now the gravesite looks great. Luckily we have gotten some rain and I suspect my baby brother has been there with seed and fertilizer over the summer as there was a pretty bunch of clover in the area.
Far Side
I hope you have better luck than I do. War flag holders seem to periodically disappear and I am having to obtain replacements for the graves of several of my ancestors. I'm not sure if kids are collecting them as a souvenir or some lazy descendant it obtaining one for the grave of their ancestor.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a pretty gravestone for you parents and the cemetery is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is a very nice looking cemetery. Thanks for sharing it with your readers.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely cemetery. I've visited my in-laws' graves twice this summer, as it's only about 25 away. But I haven't been back to visit my own parents' graves in 3 years - since I was back for my 50th class reunion.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a very beautiful place to rest.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely cemetery. I love cemeteries! I try to go to the two we have here once or twice a month. At that point I refresh the flowers. Your parents tombstone is very nice.
ReplyDeleteI love to visit cemeteries, especially on All Souls Day. So many stories, written in so few words engraved in stone.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pleasant place to visit. I love the trees sheltering the gravesite.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a pretty graveyard.
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with flag holders in cemeteries but it sounds like a wonderful idea. Is this done just for people who were in the military?
ReplyDeleteYes for Veterans and on Memorial Day there are flags in the Veterans Flag Holders
DeleteThey rest in a beautiful spot. You told me once about the unusual surname. I have already forgotten how to pronounce it. Guess my brain is dying.
ReplyDeleteI love that big spreading tree, just beginning to turn color.
ReplyDeleteSuch a thoughtful project 🍂 The flag holder and fresh flowers make a beautiful tribute to your parents, and I’m sure your father would be proud. The changing trees and the touch of clover sound so peaceful — a lovely place of remembrance. Wishing you strength and comfort as autumn settles in. 💛
ReplyDeleteIt looks so peaceful there.
ReplyDeleteLove that huge tree nearby. :)
Aw, a biter sweet moment.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you make an effort to remember your parents.
ReplyDeleteSo peaceful.
ReplyDeleteI have to go back to the family plot and pick up the messy old flowers and maybe put some fall stuff in there. This was a good reminder.
ReplyDeleteVery touching.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful cemetery.
