Rainbow

We attended a neighborhood picnic last night...great food and company!  Pot luck...with many great cooks...the cajun cooks are here so the fresh shrimp they brought with them was awesome.  Far Guy said the egg rolls and jambalaya were both to die for!  I did not cook...a couple of containers of strawberries was the best I could do.

It sprinkled a bit ...just a few drops...but enough for a rainbow that was double at times.

Photo by my baby brother's bride...she had her phone...I did not.

Yesterday one vehicle got an oil change and a car wash and the other ( Tilly) is still in the shop for a diagnosis.

Rainbows

We went for a Ranger Blue ride and delivered some jelly to the neighbors.   I counted my Chokecherry jelly jars...32 are full.  So no need to pick chokecherries to make chokecherry juice this year for jelly. It was not a great year for Chokecherries as it was a bit dry.

As we made our way around the "block" we got to see a rainbow.  The rain missed us and went South.

If you have a real good imagination you can see the double bow off to the right.

Far Guy has Tilly all polished up and ready to go to a car show this weekend.

Saturday stuff

We saw a double rainbow one night last week.

Far Guy wood carved yesterday.  I went to town to visit my parents.  Mom says that Dad is having some very confused days.  However yesterday he was having a good day and knew who I was...not my name but that I was his oldest "kid."   He talked about when Mom and he first met and how she slipped and fell last week and he was not strong enough to help her up.  She has fallen twice recently...she has a bump on her head and a bruise on her arm.  On his confused days Dad is a hand full for Mom.

In the evening we trimmed back the tomatoes...they were getting way too tall, we had to get a ladder out to trim them.   It was a warm humid day yesterday.

September Rainbows

We painted the garage entry doors and trim…three doors…another job that is hard on the shoulder.  They need some touch up…a storm came up before everything was dry….uffda…just what I want to do spend another afternoon painting.
Far Guy is replacing my lawn mower blades, he was just going to sharpen them for me…but it seems I have worn them out.  We have had a good amount of rain lately and I am back to mowing once a week.
The storms brought rainbows.

Double Rainbows
Two partial rainbows…I know the second one is hard to see
Rain this time of year is good for the trees…they need moisture to survive the winter.
Summer is officially over now…Labor Day has passed and all the Minnesota kids head back to school today.
Let’s see if I can get this right we have one grand in seventh grade, two grands that are Sophomores and one that is a Junior in High School and one that is on her first year at Northland Northwest Technical College.  Makes a Grandma feel kinda old.

Chasing Rainbows

There was a line of thunderstorms headed our way one night.  We took off in the rain to get on the other side of it to look for a rainbow…or the pot of gold.

It was raining really hard, and the rain was cold.  Far Guy said something about “Let the wet T Shirt contest begin.”  Funny man I married.  Anyways we waited..then the rain let up a bit and the bow started to form..at first you think your eyes are playing tricks on you..but then the bow gains color.

Bow one

This was a double bow.  Even Chance was excited..I wonder if he saw what we did?  Possibly he was just excited because we were oohing and ahhing.

Bow one continued

Yessiree that pot of gold is at Barb and Rogers.

Here is the top of the bow proof that it went all the way over.

Double Rainbow

My best shot of the double bow.  That pot of gold was in Donnie’s lake.

So much for date night this week…chasing bows with my best beau:)

Chasing a Rainbow

Last night we went for a drive to look at the thunderheads and to look at which way the rain might come from.  The rain went around us. Which was okay as we got 1 1/4 inches of rain on Tuesday night. Let some other moisture needy area get some rain.

Chance doesn’t like thunder..he wasn’t real keen on going for a ride..but since we both went he had to put up with the thunder…he hid in the hatchback..I am not sure why that is safer than his usual spot in the back seat..silly dog.

Rainbow 2

The air was heavy almost oppressive with moisture and heat.  This has been a very warm summer.  We drove around looking at the fields and the sky..finally we found a rainbow.

Rainbow

The small grain fields look ready to harvest soon.  The pot of gold must be in Chilton’s (Donnie’s) lake.. there was a traffic jam on this country road..one other photographer was out taking rainbow photos.

It has been a busy week at the museum..we are trying to get everything done before the “doings” on Sunday.   A few volunteers will be selling Root Beer Floats on Main Street during Crazy Days on Thursday and Friday as a fund raiser..something they try to do every summer.  I made labels for their plastic cups advertising Civil War Sunday and ads for them to put on their table…short of making them wear hats with signs they are armed with advertising for Sunday.  When is enough advertising enough?  I have printed and put up flyers and contacted every newspaper and television and radio station in the area…yet I have this fear that no one will show up.  Cost of “real” advertising is cost prohibitive, so we rely on free ads under Community Events.

I finished transcribing the eight part series of Catherine’s recollections of the Sioux Massacre in the Minnesota River Valley.  Friday that series will be complete. I found it very interesting.  The pioneers lived through some harrowing experiences. This is the 150th anniversary of “The Dakota Conflict.”  Part Six can be found here. :)
