I like gift bags, they can be reused. I remember when all the gift wrap was saved from one year to the next and it was flattened and ironed.
These bags contained Chokecherry Jelly, Christmas Ornaments, a tin of Turtles and a Christmas card…for my parents and my brothers….homemade Christmas Gifts the very best kind. My sister lives far far away…but I sent her an ornament and some scrubbies!

Those are the best gifts ever, made from the heart. I gave out jelly like that to someone and found out later that they were wary of anything home made. Sad face.... Oh well.

OH, goodness, I had not thought about ironing the wrap and ribbons for years! One of my grandmas did it until she died in the 1970s! I also remember before Scotch tape and using stickers you had to lick to make the packages stick together. They didn't work all that well - at least for a kid! I think gift bags are one of those wonderful modern conveniences. I can't even remember when we first started using them. Anyone?
I reuse gift bags, too. I don't ever remember ironing the gift wrap, but it makes sense, when things weren't automatically thrown out after one use. :-)
I can remember my mother and grandmother insisting we carefully remove our gift wrap by the tape so that it could be carefully refolded for next year. I was always jealous of children on tv who tore open their presents!
Gift wrap is big business! I reuse the bags too.

As I read this post, I could almost hear my Mom saying, "Save the bows." The star bows were tucked in a bag to be reused for years.
Yes, homemade is definitely the best kind of gift. And I can hear my mom saying "save the bows" too. Oops - and I know I've said it myself.
We have always save the bows! I still do. I remember folding the paper to be reused over and over again too. But, I also like to use gift bags as often as possible. However, I just realized that with all my wrapping this year I didn’t use one gift bag. I completely forgot them. Blessings always, Betys
We never ironed our paper but when it got to be too full of wrinkles it was discarded. Your gift bags of goodies are fun to give and fun to be receiving. We have only a few gift bags that come our way so we don’t get to use them. I do think we need to stock up on some of them. This is our week to buy gifts for those who live in Maine. Next week it will be for the Chicago ones.
We used to save the wrapping paper and the bows, too. Just folded, though, never ironed. These days I use packing paper. I'm thinking of having Ian and I slap some paint all over some sheets for Christmas...if I feel better this coming weekend. :) Gift bags are awesome! But they don't work for sitting under the tree for any length of time with kids that can get into them--LOL! ;)
I started using gift bags a while back and keep and reuse them year after year, no that I have a tremor using bags is so much easier for me
The gift bags you've assembled sound like the kind of gift anyone would love. Homemade things are wonderful especially when you're giving to people who don't need anything or want more stuff to stand around.

Yes the paper was also trimmed and any tape took off.

Such nice gifts! I love gift bags too. I bought a huge bag of them at a yard sale for $1 a couple of years back. One of my best $1 purchases!
The chokecherry jelly sounds fascinating. Is it very sweet? I like homemade jams because they tend to have a more zingy flavor...never tasted a chokecherry, but wonder if it would have an intense taste.
