Blast from the past

I was searching for on old recipe.  Funny thing I never found the recipe but I did find this.

Some kind of game was played...not sure what...not sure who kept score but I came in last (4th) place. Paige and Maddie are just one point apart...Savannah was clearly the winner!

I like to play games...board games, card games if you name it I will play it!  Far Guy used to play Scrabble with me a long time ago.

In the Winter Jen and Andy like to play games in the evening.  I think it is a great family activity!

The old recipe remains someplace in oblivion...but the score card remains in one of my recipe boxes:)

On the back of this sheet of paper was hand written pattern for a floral frame that I wanted to make.

Yesterday our high was 72 F or 23 C eh.

Supper was scrambled farm fresh brown eggs and an English muffin.

Wedding: Paige and Cole

October 18, 2024 the wedding of Paige and Cole took place at Carlos Creek Winery.

There were bouquets of Fall flowers.

Helping hands.

Jen helped Paige get into her gown.
Shoes were strapped on...not sure how comfortable the shoes were.
Look Grandma pockets!

Paige's Mom our oldest daughter helped Paige with her veil...the professional photographers were there for that part.

They took many photos outside.  I captured a few photos with the long lens on my camera.
I gave Paige a hankie that was her Great Great Grandmothers then her Great Grandmothers and then mine.  She tied it around the stems of her bouquet.  You can see it in the above photo and below as the bouquet rested in a vase of water on the bridal table.

Here are a few photos that Paige posted on facebook.  These photos are by others.

Most of you will recognize Savannah on the far left kneeling and Maddie kneeling next to Paige.  The bridesmaids chose shades of ivory, rust and burgundy for their gowns, they were all different styles.

They had an almost perfect day, it sprinkled a bit during the photos. After the ceremony the sun came out for a bit.  There was a social hour after the ceremony, a meal and then a dance.

Congratulations Paige and Cole!

Merry Christmas Eve!

We enjoyed having our Grands here to celebrate Christmas.

You might have noticed that we have a new Grand...his name is Jonas and he is from Belgium, he is spending the year here with Andy, Jen and Adam...he is a delight.  He told me that in Belgium you spend Christmas with your Grandparents...it is a bit different for him since his Grandfather died.

He is very tall and thin and speaks French but his English has improved since he got here.   He is a tad camera shy...but was a good sport!  We taught him how to play spoons!  A fairly wild game  was played!

Miss Paige was in Florida enjoying sunshine and deep sea fishing, we missed her.

These children light up our lives.

The Five

All of our Grandchildren were together for Maddie's Wedding Day.

This is the shortest to tallest photo, the girls had heels on and the boys were standing down the hill.  They are a fine looking bunch and we love them all.

Savannah, Maddie and Paige.  The girls were both Maids of Honor for their sister.

Hey Mikey: 13 months old

Mikey and Maddie visited yesterday.  It was so good to see them.

Maddie and Mikey

Mikey and his Mama

Mikey and the flowers

He is walking now.  He can still crawl faster than he can walk, but he walked outside for a long time.

Walking

He made us laugh and smile…little ones seem to have that kind of magic.

Maddie and Mikey at the lake

We went for a ride down to the lake and by some large machinery and stopped by my other baby brothers but no one was home.

Mikey can say Mama, Dada, thank you, milk and No (nope) and his has a word for Deacon the dog.  He has a whole mouth full of teeth that his Mama keeps sparkling clean.  He still gets two bottles a day…one at nap time and another at bedtime.

Maddie has one more week of her internship and then has to take State Boards.

We had a good visit!

Wistful Wednesday: Generations

A long time ago…well 65 plus years ago I had a photograph taken.

Four Generations 1951

I am the baby along with my Mom, my maternal Grandfather and my Great Grandmother photo taken in 1952.

1972 Four generations Elsie Madeline Trica Connie

Then in 1972 another photo was taken.  My maternal Grandmother, my Mother holding Trica and me.

In 1996 Savannah was born.  Me, Trica with Savannah and my Mother.  This is a unique photo because it is of all the oldest daughters.  My Grandmother died in October of 1995 and Savannah was born in July of 1996.  So my Grandma just missed seeing her first Great  Great Grandchild by nine months.

Four generations Me, Trica, Savannah and Maddie and Madeline 1998

In 1998 we took another photo this time when Maddie was born. Me, Trica, Savannah, Maddie and my Mother.

Now it is 2017 and it was time for a five generations photo.

Maddie: Baby belly and a ring

Our Granddaughter Maddie is engaged to be married a few years from now.  As I undertand it her beau put the ring over a game controller while she was out of the room…when she returned she discovered it and her beau went down on a knee and asked her to marry him.  So now she has a fiancé.

Maddies ring

As you probably know our first Great Grand will arrive this spring.

February 18 Maddie and Baby

26 weeks and 2 days

The baby is incubating quite nicely, but refused to kick for me.  Maddie very graciously let me feel of her belly.  I asked first…as I recall I didn’t want everyone touching my belly when I was pregnant.

I have had fun shopping and guessing what this baby will need.  I buy larger clothing.  I had a bag full that now grew into a small tote that is overflowing.  I have not started on the blanket yet either…I need to decide on a pattern and the yarn..blue.  There is a baby shower being planned.

I am looking forward to this bundle of joy…if he is as easy to care for as Maddie was as a baby then she has it made.  She didn’t thrive on breast milk, but did well on formula.  She like to eat and be burped and to be laid in her crib to go asleep all by herself…none of the snuggling with Grandma in a rocking chair for her…once you laid her in her crib and kissed her goodnight she would smile at you, turn her head and close her eyes…and in a minute or two she was fast asleep.

One time Far Guy was babysitting for the grand girls, it might have been when Paige was born.  Maddie was so fussy and he couldn’t figure out what she wanted, so he called me (I was home taking care of the Greenhouse)…I asked him what he fed her…green beans…fruit…some kind of chicken.  I told him to warm up another can of green beans and let her eat as many as she wanted… she started stuffing  them in her mouth with both hands…her Grandpa was amazed that she could eat so much. She stopped fussing after her tummy was full.  I told him how to put her to bed, kiss her goodnight and cover her with her blankie with the satin edge toward her face so she could grab the edge between her fingers.   He later reported to me that it worked just like magic.

Great Grandma

Great Grandma makes someone seem really, really old.

I will be a Great Grandmother in May and Far Guy will be a Great Grandfather.

We are now officially old.

Nope you didn’t miss anything…like a wedding.  Times change, old people’s views remain the same and the younger generation do their own thing.

Maddie and Brent

Maddie and Brent with Deacon

It is now official and was announced on Facebook.

Far Guy is dealing with the news a tad better than I am.  He confessed he thought he would never live long enough to see a Great Grandchild.

I on the other hand hoped that Maddie would get her degree, travel, see the world, grow older and wiser and then become a parent.

It is really hard being a parent now a days…and being a single parent is even harder. I suspect that with a wedding date in 2019 that this child will be old enough to be the Ring Bearer or the Flower Girl.
