The Blizzard

The Blizzard kept us inside all day Thursday.  I took some photos out the window.  It rained, snowed and we had wind gusts up to 60 mph.  It will be icy out there for sure.

Sadie had a boring day.  She went out a few times to sniff the air.  When it is really cold someone takes her down to the treadmill where she can run off some of her energy!

Far Guy's weekly Infusion was cancelled due to the weather...they rescheduled for today (Friday).

Minnesota weather; Cold but at least it's windy!  High 5F or -15C Low was -16F or -27C.  The wind chill factor is in the -40F range...downright cold.

The Third Snow

The rain turned to ice and then to snow.  It wouldn’t have been so bad if we could have stayed home.

Far Guy had an early appointment in Fargo ( 85 miles away).  We slipped and slid there early in the morning.  His Doctor ordered a CT Scan of his lungs and an Ultrasound of his liver.  All tests were completed in 42 minutes. The technician said “I thought for sure you would call and cancel.” Nope we wanted to get it over with. The sun came out and the roads dried out and they were just fine until Detroit Lakes where we stopped for breakfast…blueberry pancakes for me yum!  Far Guy had some Chicken Biscuit Gravy thing.

The price of gasoline is  under $2.00 a gallon.

The last 33 miles home were icy.  Three cars in the ditch.  We slid a couple of times.  Enough to say “Oh crap” or worse a couple of times.

This car crossed over three lanes of traffic to hit the ditch.

People were driving too fast, and it didn’t help that the wind was gusting to 40 mph.

Winter is here.

The third snow two inches

I took a photo of the snow stick just before taking my afternoon nap.  We were glad to be home safe and sound.

My report:  Far Guy does have a gizzard (gallbladder) all these years I thought he was missing his…but I saw it on the ultrasound.  He also has a liver, and he has a small cyst on his right kidney…which according to the Ultrasound gal is a normal occurrence.

Making a list

I made the dreaded list.  The list of things that I feel must be done in the next couple of months.

Some projects are fun..I don’t mind organizing, remembering to repurpose, reuse or recycle.

As I smashed down the last cover on the Christmas tote..I felt guilty for a couple of days..then I went back upstairs..emptied them all out..and repacked them.  One tote had not seen the light of day for a few years.  Inside I found a wonderful little surprise.

I didn’t remember this package of ornaments.

Shiny Brites made in Italy..and unbreakable…who woulda thunk it?

Some things needed my attention..the box of ornaments that were handmade for Far Guy’s Mom..will the next generation know or care?   Will they know that the Christmas Choir Children were her favorites?  Well now they are all marked.

One tote of Christmas decorations will be sent out to the garage to be donated or sold.

I ripped apart half of the walk through closet upstairs.  I enlisted Far Guy to help vacuum the walls and ceiling. He survived.  I still have oodles of drawers to go through upstairs.

The weather outside was frightful.

It rained and then it froze so everything is covered in ice.  Chance was surprised to find out that even in four paw drive he could not stop sliding.  Then it snowed but only an inch or two..maybe.

We ventured out to the Post Office on Saturday morning. The roads are terrible. We won’t be going out again for a few days.

The road home Jan 12

We hunkered down the rest of the day..me with my project list, and a movie about Whales in the afternoon called The Big Miracle and a long nap:)

Chances

Yesterday while everyone was off fishing..etc.. Chance and I went out to take some photos.  Our little Jack Pine which was just a troublesome seedling has grown almost before our eyes.  Not everyone has an appreciation for the little Jacks.

This morning Chance and I were out again..since yesterdays ice and snow our poor little Jack is a little bent over..his ability to spring back may have been severely compromised.

Today everyone is planning to watch football or play board games.. I heard something about Bananagrams, never played it..but it sounds interesting.  I will probably nap during the football game ..what are the chances that the Vikings will get to the super bowl anyway..about as many chances as my little Jack Pine has of complete recovery:)
