May Baskets

It is about time to make May Baskets.

I have the basket part made...working on the decorations....they will be an animal.

They can be as simple as a cup filled with candy...or flowers...whatever you like to surprise someone.

It is a tradition that I have been able to participate in for over 70 years.

My first May baskets May 2 1953.  Photo of me and my Mom at the farm where I grew up.

We made it to Duluth and back again to visit with our daughter for her 54th birthday.  It was a good day.

  1. Glad you arrived home safely. I hope FG can help you drive. It’s hard on your bad back.

You are keeping a tradition alive. We never did May baskets. If Sigrid read your blog, she’d be expecting one with her favorite goodies in it.

  3. I'm always wondering how many people participate in this tradition. It's not followed here.

  4. I'm glad you were able to have a good visit and back home safely. We always used to do May baskets. Our kids gave them too, but I don't hear of anyone exept you doing them now. I love that it's been 70 years. How fun!
    Blessings and hugs,

  5. I have been having trouble commenting; I like to read blogs on my computer but some including yours will only let me comment from my phone. So much easier to type from my keyboard rather than the tiny phone one!
The 1st robin I saw here a couple weeks ago sounded really crabby, it was just before the big spring snow. But they are singing properly now.

  6. I'd love to do this. I love making and giving surprises. However, it won't work well with my neighbors and most of us have gates and you can't get near the house. I did think about putting some Easter goodies out..but then scrapped that idea for the same reason! How neat that you've experienced this your whole life!

  7. I love it that you keep up the tradition. I think it is lost here now that elementary schools don't do fun stuff anymore.

  14. Happy birthday to your daughter! Glad you could make that drive to spend some time with her to celebrate. The May basket tradition was such fun when we were kids. And I always enjoy seeing you carry that tradition into NOW, and so creatively too.
