We are still in hot pad/potholder production. It helps Far Guy with his anxiety. I tried to teach him how to crochet...I am not a very good teacher. I thought perhaps he could lessen the yarn stash by making scarves for school kids!
Finding an activity to keep your mind off anxiety is a great help. That's why I built Lego sets with Rich. It kept hands and mind busy and he didn't think of things that bothered him. Those look great!
My maternal great-grandma and my paternal grandma both deemed me "unteachable" when it came to crochet. I could barely do a chain. However, once I became a grandma, I was determined to learn to crochet a dinosaur for my grandson. I'd seen the Woobles advertised on Facebook as beginner friendly, and decided to give it a try! I highly recommend trying them out - their kits include everything needed to start, plus a huge library of videos. It turns out, unlike grandmas, that the YouTube videos don't get frustrated when you slow them down, and rewind a million times to try to figure out what they're doing. :)
My paternal grandmother taught me to crochet. She must have taught me about 7 or 8 times but somehow it never stuck and I have never managed to crochet anything. Other granny taught me to make patchwork and that did stick. I have made patchwork curtains for 9 windows and the front door, and a quilt.
I never could learn to crochet. Tried several times. I could knit, though--but never to size. With scarves or blankets it doesn't matter so much. ;) The potholder looks great! I know it does help me have some activity to help keep my spinning mind calm. :)
Both of my sons learned how to crochet....without my intervention! I know how to crochet, but I haven't done so in ages. Currently I have been dabbling with knitting.
Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate your comments! If you have a question I will try to answer it here. I no longer accept anonymous comments. All comments will be approved before posting...due to spammers...may the fleas of a thousand camels infest every hair on his body. Connie
I’m not a good crochet teacher either. I’ve tried to teach several but haven’t greatly successful. I like the pop holder.

ReplyDeleteMaybe knitting would be easier to teach Far Guy.
ReplyDeleteThe woven hotpads are a good project too.
ReplyDeleteThe hot pads are very nice. Perhaps Far Guy would be happier with knitting. :)

ReplyDeleteyou are so sweet and so thoughtful. I wonder how many kids have never had a scarf. glad to see FG is able to help you with the trivets.
