We took the trails over to Bass Lake one evening.
We saw a partridge getting gravel from the road ( no photo), a turtle looking to lay some eggs in the road and a few deer when we got closer to home.
Can you find the turtle? She was about a half a mile from a lake.
I believe we saw six deer that evening.
Yesterday Far Guy wood carved and I sprayed Poison Ivy and Thistle. Freezer food was supper...Far Guy had Seafood Gumbo with Wild Rice and I had Chili. Nice to have individual servings frozen to warm up when we have a night off of cooking! The Butcher Shop in town has really good pork chops we had those one night with sweet potatoes and green beans. I seem to have lost my cooking mojo....I hope Far Guy doesn't lose his:)
Oh cooking. Can I just get meals? I really dislike planning and cooking. I'd rather eat just fruits and raw veggies than plan a meal.
However that doesn't work in our house.
Love the wild life you saw! We don't have neat trails like that around here. I really question the smarts of letting those Rangers and UTV's being legal on our county roads. When you come over a blind hill or curve there is someone driving! Eeeks! And then they try to speed up and you are afraid they will flip on the curves.
I love your explorations!
How do you package your single serving foods?
You have beautiful scenery up there. Great wildlife too. I just read an article about that "wasting disease" that deer can get. Pork chops sound good...I wish I would have ordered some. I pick up groceries this morning. You are so fortunate to have a butcher shop!
Found the turtle. And in summer it feels perfect not to have to cook!
It's so wonderful to see the wildlife. I hope the turtle eggs hatch but that's a long walk for the babies to the water. I guess mom knows best. :)
I've been doing a lot of grilling of hamburgers and smokies, so last night I attempted chicken curry. Let's just say it wasn't my best effort. I may try again another time but in the meantime I'll find another use for plain yoghurt.
A lovely lake. I see the turtle, that's a long way from the lake. I have lost my cooking mojo, too. Which isn't good because I'm the only cook.
sallysmom, Freezer Hefty bags or the Food Saver bags!
I'm not enjoying cooking as much as I used to either. My favorite was always baking and since we don't eat nearly as many sweets as we used to I don't make them. Mom can't have them either since she's diabetic. We ususally tend to just have a simple meat on the grill and veggies. This morning I made Wichita Potatoes and deviled eggs for a picnic at my nieces this afternoon.
Your Ranger ride looks full of adventure and animals. Nice to have somewhere fun to ride and see the wildlife.
While I usually do all of the cooking, in summer we grill more, and then, while I still do most of the prep, Tom does the grilling, which frees me up from watching pots on the stove. He also always does most of the cleaning up.
It's too hot to do much cooking. I often cook double portions of meat when I cook so we have easy freezer meals, too. Plus I have some soups and sauces in there, too. Such a blessing!
Speaking of deer - - they ate my Black-eyed Susan flowers. They ate the neighbor's sunflowers - - all of them. Then they went on another neighbor's deck and turned over her big planter of tomatoes and started eating them.
Oh Connie, I feel that way about cooking all the time lately. After zillions of meals, I'm plum worn out, I guess. If I was the only one here....I wonder what I'd eat. Thanks for a great blog, always.
Any day at a lake is bound to be a good one. Looks like a peaceful time.
I love to cook and make fancy meals. But maybe once a week. Not every night for the rest of my life!!
I hate to cook or even eat hot food when the weather is like this. I love to see the Minnesota lakes at their summer finest. I would rather swim in a cold lake than anywhere else! Probably lots of fawns and teenager deer in the woods by this time of year. Lucky you to see six in one evening!
My cooking mojo is basically inactive in the summer. In the winter. During the winter, the freezer always has individual containers of soup and leftover meals. Don’t overdo the carving until your thumb/wrist is stronger
Spraying for poison ivy is on my list.
