Grocery Day

Moldy bread was in our grocery order.  I called and complained...especially since I ordered two loaves of bread ...only got one and it was moldy.  At least they didn't send out oranges that they knew were wrong...you know that spot where the customer can write notes...well I give them lots of input.

There is some flat bread in the freezer and I can bake bread if needed.

The wallyworld order was almost perfect they had to sub a larger size of multivitamins. Give me more for the same price all day long.

Far Guy and I looked at mowers....at least there were some to look at.  We picked one out and it will be delivered next week...it was the only one of the 2022 models that they had on hand. The mulching kit for it won't be released until next Spring....we requested that a mulching kit and blades be installed before delivery...they called and said that the 2021 kit doesn't fit the 2022.   Bummer.   Oh well it is what it is.

Went to Bingo with my Dad and baby brother...we did not win.

Ornament count is now 80.  I can see clearly now...another ear worm for you...you are welcome:)

Grocery Day Report

They were out of Milky Way Dark minis...so I had to sub the regular Milky Way minis.   I also had a substitution on my wax paper.  I use lots of wax paper when I am painting ornaments....and baking cookies...but there are no cookies being cooled lately...just painting.   I ordered Cara Cara Oranges to see if they had them...they substituted a South Africa Orange called Midknight...I have not tried it yet.  I marked my Cara Caras  "no substitutions" and you can bet if it is not up to my rigorous orange standards...I will complain.

We have been slowly stocking up on bath soap, laundry soap, toothpaste, shampoo and lotion. AND we have a good supply of toilet paper!  Next on my list is to check our supply of flour, yeast and sugar....and Pumpkin...because the Grands are already asking for Pumpkin Bread.

I took my Dad to Bingo, I  got a bingo...so it was a free night out for both of us!  Dad said he had fun.  He was a bit unsteady...and almost fell once...I was able to grab him and keep him  upright.   Scary for sure.

Far Guy took off on Ranger Blue when I left for Bingo....the other day there was "this trail"  it was narrow and rocky and I decided it was not a great trail and backed out before I got too far....it was sketchy...well guess who HAD to try it?   Far Guy reports it is just as narrow and rocky as we thought...but it also has many steep hills up and down ...he said there are huge gullies and I wouldn't have liked the trail at all.  So he had an adventure without me.

I did not get 6 Christmas Ornaments done yesterday...perhaps I can make up for it today.  The car has an oil change appointment and our electrician is stopping by to install a smart thermostat and to do some other work....so it will be another busy day.

It froze hard enough that the Impatiens looked sick in the morning and by late afternoon they were brown and shrunken...the blooms are now only a memory.

Third Shot Day

Far Guy got the 3rd Moderna Vaccination yesterday.  So far he is doing okay.

I have  to schedule mine someday soon...I will need a few days to recover...I heard that there may be a flu/Moderna combo coming out soon.

Grocery pickup was good...they had oranges!

My baby brother and I went to Bingo with our Dad.  My baby brother won...so it was a fun night.

A Hudson...not sure what year...it was a real pretty car.

Bingo Group

There were 16 of us at Bingo last night.  My Dad was not sure that he would feel up to going...but he did...and Mom went too.  All of my baby brothers children were there and one of my other baby brothers children.  States represented were Minnesota of course, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington and Oregon.  People from Oregon and Minnesota were winners.    Dad did not Bingo...I was hoping he would.  BUT he had a good time and it was good for him to get out of the house.   His broken rib is painful for him.

Dad is struggling more with his memory...but he still knows how to play bingo:)

Thursday on Friday

Wow this week went really fast.  Grocery pickup was uneventful...they are still out of various items...some of which I went into the store to check...and they had cherries and pears...go figure.  Town is still real busy with tourists.   Main Street was full of cars....couldn't find a parking spot if you wanted one.

I took my Dad to Bingo.  I got a bingo so we were encouraged...I just wish Dad would get a bingo.

The paper shredder bit the dust this week too...two appliances...I wonder what will be next.  The new microwave works great...it will warm stuff up, bake a potato, pop popcorn and defrost meat...:)  I added a paper shredder to my wally world list and it was delivered to the vehicle... :)

Found some Crawfish at the Butcher Shop...frozen...they are thawing out...we will steam them one of these nights.

A old friend  (age 67) died recently.   She opened a freezer and fell backwards hit her head and died the next day.  One just never knows.

Lead Plant

The Lead Plant is blooming.  It is a plant that is native to Minnesota.

Grocery day was uneventful...missing a few things.  The  person that delivered to the car at wallyworld said that the store should order more when they know that the tourists will wipe out the shelves.  Town was very busy.   Gas is up to $3.09 a gallon.

I took my Dad to Bingo, we didn't win.  We missed last week as Dad was real sick...he had cellulitis....he is much better now.  ( Cellulitis is a bacterial infection of the skin)  He told me he was so sick he nearly died.  He did well at Bingo...he only missed a few numbers....I either point them out or daub them for him.

A little rain

We got a little rain on Friday morning when the cold front went through.    Not much rain...enough to make the lawn chairs wet.  It was a nice day with a high around 80 F.  My baby brother brought over a visiting cousin from Missouri... Karl and his wife Peggy.  Karl was one of the twin ring bearers in our wedding.   It has been many years since we have seen him....now he has kids in College and his hair is grey!!

I took my Dad to Bingo on Thursday night...we did not Bingo but we had fun anyway.  Dad is getting a bit unsteady on his feet.  We made it there and back without incident.  Dad had fallen in the bathroom just before I picked him up for Bingo....he said he fell on the soft rug so it wasn't too bad.   My Mother managed to help him up.

Far Guy and I put the tomatoes cages up around the growing tomato plants.  The plants have a few flowers!

We had BLT's for supper, I like my T on the side.

Splendor report:  I won one!  Far Guy 4 me 2.

Entertainment

We bought a solar fountain to put into the birdbath.

It gives us much enjoyment!   Old folks are easily entertained!

Hopefully blogger will let me upload an image...I have a new photo editing software...it was an app ( Pixelmaker Pro)....I don't have it all figured out yet...what can I say...I am still learning! (Not sure how I got the water blue)

Have you played the game Splendor?   Jen and Andy introduced us to the game.  I ordered one.

I watched two shows on Netflix this week Greater and soul surfer I give them both a 10...excellent movies!  For my series I began watching Heartland....I should be reading more as bookclub is next week...I am reading The Radium Girls.

I mowed the side and back yards and some of the Wild Gardens yesterday after grocery pickup.  Mowing was a dirty job again.

I took my Dad to Bingo and I won 57 dollars so we got our money back...breaking even is a good thing.

Butter Butt and Bingo

We have more Butter Butts (Yellow Rumped Warbler) all the time.  They are only here for a little while in the Spring then they move on...we must be a rest area.

Such a pretty little bird!

Grocery pickup was okay...missing a few things, but I can work around them...they sent Skim Milk instead of 2 % ...Pretzel Buns are in short supply again along with Lime Outshine Bars.  Good thing I have some of each in the freezer.

I took my Dad to Bingo, we didn't win but we came real close to winning several times.  Dad was a little more unsteady on his feet...we take his walker along, and usually someone happens along to help me with the doors and the step he has to go down.   He was a little more confused than last week.  He is working up some ground in his old garden spot because he wants to plant some potatoes... he gets around pretty good for someone 94 years old.

Tomorrow is May Day...are you ready with May Baskets?

Not much new but yarn

I am certain I will become bored with these colors before long....since I have 26 skeins.

These are the colors for a new project.   It will be interesting to see how the colors come together on this  Mosaic Patchwork Project.

The grocery adventure was okay this week.  Made a trip by the meat market too.  Our new fridge has more space on the top freezer than our old fridge...and less space in the bottom.  Go figure.

We are getting a bit bored with our normal menus...I suppose the comfort food of winter should be replaced by more summery menus.  I should try some new recipes....we got some farm fresh eggs...and that made a great breakfast for supper!

I took my Dad to Bingo, I won $45  (we play one wins we all win and split the pots) so we can go back again next week:)

Bingo

We have no flowers except for the tin ones.   There is still snow in some spots....and we may get more snow next week.   Winter wants to stick around!

I took my Dad to Bingo, everyone well almost everyone wears masks until they are at their table, then they can take them off.   We did not Bingo, but we got within one number several times.   It gives my Mom a break and my Dad really enjoys Bingo.  He goes out to Doctor appointments, Church and Bingo.  I am not sure how many more times we can safely go...We are watching the Covid Case numbers and they are going up ...I also heard that the local hospital reopened their Covid ward....it has been closed.   One week at a time....if everyone would just get their vaccinations and wear masks we would have a chance of getting back to normal someday.

My Dad has some memory problems, I have to redirect him and explain things to him several times...he does pretty good for being 94.   He misses a few numbers here and there...he wants me to point them out...so I do. Together we make it work so we don't miss a bingo.

Friday happenings

The fifth shawl using Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball was completed and blocked.
I am glad to be done with this color...it is pretty but five was enough.  Why did I buy five...it was on sale that way!

I used a different pattern for this one.

This crochet pattern is called Teterboro Shawl.

The back of the shawl.  I  do like how the colors flowed.  This pattern is suitable for a small person.

Far Guy asked me one day "What will you do with all the shawls?"  I have given two away.  Those that I don't give away will go to the prayer shawl ministry at the church or to the Nursing Home after all this Covid crap is history.

I have one shawl in the works and one is being blocked in preparation for it's photo shoot.  I crochet at night putting my feet up and watching a bit of TV...sometimes I only get a row or two done before I get sleepy.

We had a busy Friday.  I mowed for a couple of hours.  The ticks are active...I had one crawling on my arm and I wear a long sleeved shirt!  He probably fell out of my hair!  ( Yes I washed my hair right after that discovery!)

Friday evening we had a social distancing get together for my Dad for Father's Day.  My sister bought Bingo cards and we had Bingo for him.  We all spread out up at my brothers shop....it was fun! Dad bingoed on the last game!

Bingo at the American Legion started up again this past week.  Dad wasn't real excited to go...my baby brother was going to take him...but they decided to wait a little while longer.  I will not go until it is safe to do so.

Bingo, Death and other stuff

I wandered through the yarn shop again this week.  Some new yarn may or may not have come home with me.

My Dad and I went to Bingo, I bingoed once...Dad is in a bingo funk, he hasn't bingoed in a long time.  He thinks we should switch tables and maybe his luck would change. Dad has a bit of a  memory problem but he can still play bingo.  He asks me "how many numbers did I miss?"  He misses a few ( I daub them for him) but not enough to quit going to bingo.  He takes a special medication to help with his memory...he calls them his memory pills.

One of our old/former neighbors died.   Florence had Alzheimers so she has been gone for a long time....now the physical just follows the mental. She had been in a facility for a number of years.  My parents went up North for her funeral.  Luckily the weather and road were good for traveling. Florence loved window boxes full of Red Impatiens and spots of bright flowers here and there at their lake home.

Far Guy is having a bout with severe shortness of breath...the weather is changing??/or maybe he is coming down with something?? I will keep one eye on him...maybe even two.

Busy Thursday

My Dad and I were total losers at Bingo, but we still had a good time

Had a weird thing happen in the morning...still cannot figure it out.  My phone rang while I was at my parents...It asked if I wanted to join the Facetime phone call between my brothers, sister and myself...so I joined...  who knew that four or maybe even more people could see each other and all talk.  My other baby brother said his phone rang and he got the same message as I did...and my baby brothers wife said the same thing.  She answered my brothers phone...he was in surgery getting a new knee.    No one knows who initiated the call???  I didn't even know how to hang up...my other baby brother was laughing because he didn't know how to hang up either.  Eventually I think everyone hung up on me.

Anyways my baby brother has another new knee...he was up and walking last night and should get out of the hospital today if all goes well.

I shoveled snow over at my parents...it snowed in town just enough to make things slippery.   Far Guy was delayed at the infusion center so I managed to squeeze in a visit to the yarn shop.  Yarn may have been purchased.

We are done with appointments for the week! I went in for my blood draw after dropping off Far Guy at Pulmonary Therapy.  Later in the day my blood work came back and I am normal...even my cholesterol...how about that!
Pretty roses at the grocery store.

Bingo and more

My Dad's favorite outing is to Bingo.  I will take him as long as he is able to go.  I usually call to make sure he is feeling up to going, the answer is usually "If you are going I will go too."

This week I didn't know if he would feel up to it...on Monday he said he felt like a bowl of jello after his episode on Sunday.  Then Tuesday my other baby brother took him to Fargo for shots in his knees.

We made our bingo package money back plus 6 dollars this week.  So we can go again.
My Mom doesn't like bingo and she can sew all night while Dad is gone.   Far Guy doesn't like bingo either...so he gets a quiet night at home with no interruptions from me.

The more:
Far Guy is still struggling with a bad cold.  It started with a sore throat and then moved to his chest.  We gave in on New Years Day and took him to the ER where he just escaped a hospital admission, he got some new meds and if he wasn't feeling better he was to come back yesterday after his infusion.   ( Medicare rules...he cannot get his weekly infusion to protect his lungs if he is in the hospital.)   He was feeling worse Thursday morning so after his infusion we went to the ER...we had to wait there so long he began to feel better...so we saw the Dr and then came home.  Hopefully Far Guy will continue to improve. We are not going anyplace for the next three days.   (He peopled and churched too many times over the holidays.)  I am tired of Emergency Rooms.

Our oldest daughter is still in the hospital.  She called us yesterday.  We have been unable to visit her because Far Guy has been ill.

Early Morning Trees

Surprise Surprise we got more snow Christmas Day evening and night.  About 4 inches plus or minus fell.  It made the roads slippery.

We have another winter storm moving in.  Not sure if this one has a name yet.  This one should last three days....we shall see.  We will be safe at home.

The light in the early morning caught the snow filled branches of the Oaks very nicely.

There are 11 inches of snow at the snowstick as of yesterday.

We ran errands up north yesterday.  Delivered baby shower packages to Maddie.  Her baby shower is today and we will miss it on account of the weather.  Their trip back to Michigan will be delayed a day or two.

After dropping off packages we stopped by Hobby Lobby for one skein of yarn and I came out with two...so that's not so bad!

I stopped by and gave Savannah a hug and then we visited our oldest daughter.  We got home just at twilight.  The moon was a beautiful sliver of orange in the western sky and straight south was Venus very bright in the night sky.

My computer went all wonky on Friday morning, Andy got it into safe mode and I copied everything I wanted to keep.  While we were gone the computer fixed itself...but who knows for how long. ..Windows 7 was a long time ago.

Thursday;  Andy and Jen came down to my baby brothers for a holiday meal and then they went to Bingo with my Dad and I.  Jen and I both bingoed so it was a good night and we can go back again next week.

Day off

Today is a day off.  Not sure what I will do.  It has been a busy week.  I took my Dad to Bingo last night...I bingoed twice and he bingoed once so it was a good night and we can go back again next week.   Dad takes his walker along now and his cane...the walker just incase he needs to sit and rest or be pushed to the vehicle.  I told him "The walker must go along to Bingo."  So far so good...he likes going to Bingo.

Supper will be leftovers  so I don't need to cook!

While Far Guy was at Pulmonary Therapy  I did some shopping for stocking stuffers for the Grands.  Basically I just wandered around looking at "stuff" until something caught my eye.  One store was promoting a sale when you were ready to check out you picked a object out of a basket...mine said 50% off...so my entire purchase was half price!  (I should have bought more stuff!) Small business promoting shopping in our small town....I was the only customer in the store.

The roads were icy on the way home last night....I am not so sure about our new road...it seems to be more icy than the old road.  Last night there were even drifts across the road where usually there are no snowdrifts.  I drove slow...

Far Guy finished putting up the downstairs tree and it has lights on it!  Perhaps I will begin decorating it over the weekend!

Oh Deer

The deer love the acorns in our yard.  Lately they have been feeding at night.

Last night a Fox or a Coyote went through the yard...his/her tracks were out there in the fresh snow, we brought the Trail Cam in to see if our best guess was right but the camera was not focused where he/she walked through.

We saw a buck tracks on one occasion. He showed up once on the trail cam.  He is most likely the buck that my sister in law shot.  She described him as a little six point buck.

Hunting successfully culls the herd.   If there is a good hunt less deer are road kill.
Last night on the way home from Bingo with my Dad I saw four deer crossing the road...luckily I saw them in time and avoided a collision.

My Dad and my Aunt Anna usually split the meat of one deer, yesterday was the day they cut up and washed the meat...ground some up for venison burger and canned 24 jars of meat.  They are meticulous about hair and tallow on the meat...neither are allowed.

We didn't win at Bingo but we were one number away from the $600 jackpot.  Next week there is no Bingo because of Thanksgiving.

Thursday Happenings

We still have snow and it is cold.

My brother's construction company was involved with the dirt work with the power poles out on the highway.   Dirt was removed and a new pole was set in place.  Water was ponding in between the power poles...we have had so much rain I said it would have cattails before long.

On our way back from town we stopped so I could  take a few photos.

In the evening my Dad and I went to Bingo.  We didn't win.  Dad was hesitant to go...he fell last Saturday and has two black eyes and a big scrape on his forehead...he was checked out at the ER and is fine just bruised.   I told him if he wore his hat no one would even notice.   It was dark when I left for Bingo...it won't be light again when I leave until March sometime.

It is good to have the appointments behind us again this week.   Friday is a free day!!  Yeah!

October half over

Seems like we are whipping right through the month of October.

I got my flu shot yesterday....the gals up in the infusion center  give them to family members of patients.  So I didn't need an appointment or anything.  So far so good.  No bad reactions!

The sun was out yesterday...yeah for sunshine!

Miss Miney and Little Elvis enjoyed the sunshine too!

I still have a few flowers blooming!  I am enjoying every flower I see!
The other Salvia has succumbed to the frost but  Salvia Victoria Blue is still hanging in there.  From the kitchen window I noticed a mainly black with a little red butterfly on the Salvia ...it did not stick around long enough for a photo...must have been just passing through.

Went to Bingo with my Dad and my baby brother....we did not win but we had fun anyway.  Dad is still having problems with his knee.  Considering his age there is nothing much they can do with his knee.  I told Dad we need one of those rolling walkers with a seat so when his knee is not cooperating he can sit down and I can push him to the vehicle.   It is either that or no bingo.  Luckily my brother has been there to help me get him to the vehicle safely when his knee isn't cooperative.
