Storm Day Two

 The wind blew, it snowed and the wind blew some more. 

Here are my shovels. One Toro Power Shovel the best $100 I ever spent and one regular grain shovel that I like for shoveling snow by hand.  It is plastic and light to lift!

My wonderful nephew Josh plowed our drive and yard yesterday and shoveled the walk for me.  So  much appreciated!

I hope the sun comes out and melts the snow on the patio...it was almost clear before this storm. 

Toward supper time we made a quick delivery and the township road had lots of big drifts...Ranger Blue plowed right through the drifts made by the wind coming off of the fields.  The road will be plugged with snow in just a few hours.  The back way around through the woods was okay.

I made one of Far Guy favorite meals for supper...roast pork, potatoes, gravy and baked carrots.  Minnesota comfort food!

sNOw Day

 I am convinced this snow is all my fault.  We were home a few days and I put one pair of snow boots away and got out my Spring/Summer boots.  I wear them when it is muddy and when I mow the grass and when I spray weeds.  So I had one pair of snow boots and one pair of mud boots at the ready...depending on the day. 

No mud, grass, pollen or weed spray on them.  They are just sitting there waiting, perhaps I need to shove them back in the storage chest. 

Yessiree another snowy all day day.  Just thrilled.

Winter Storm Jacob: Day Two

It snowed yesterday.   I have decided that the snow stick lies...perhaps the wind blew some snow away.   It says 24 inches at the snowstick.   That would be a four inch gain in 24 hours.

 If that was so...how come it looked like more when I shoveled?

My Great Nephew Mason came by shortly after this and plowed us out.

The snow was blowing around so I saw no need in moving anymore snow until it calms down.

I took Shiny Brite Ornaments off the tree upstairs...and put them away.  The tree itself is still standing.  One day soon I will get it packed away.

I did  something with the "big sort"  I emptied a drawer and put everything in it on my table to be marked for a garage sale.  Then I turned out the light and came downstairs...enough for one snowy day.

Far Guy did some woodcarving and some coughing...he cannot seem to get rid of that horrible cough.  He had a nap and made supper for us...ribs and vegetables.  He is a great cook!

Piled high and deeper

It snowed again ...we got about 5 inches of the white stuff.  I shoveled and power shoveled again.  My Nephew Josh came by with the skidsteer today and moved more snow.

The snowbank named June is getting larger.

We have 21 inches at the snowstick now.

The snow is piled up on the roofs. This is the snow curl on the west side of the house. It will eventually come down and then we won't be able to see out the window!

After shoveling I worked upstairs on the big sort.  I sure am finding some interesting "stuff."

We are plunging into the deep freeze again today. Wind chills will be horrible. We probably won't get above zero today.  We have to go out for appointments for Far Guy and the vehicle needs an oil change and tires rotated....so I will handle that while Far Guy entertains all the Nurses that he sees several times a week.  After a quick stop for a few groceries we will come back home and hunker down for the storm that is supposed to arrive on Friday.

Uffda more snow

We got about 4 inches of new snow.  It has been cleared from our yard, our nephew Josh was by and cleared most of the yard.  I power shoveled the walk and the path to the birds and shoveled a little….Josh was impressed how far that little power shovel throws snow.  As far as I am concerned it is a wonderful tool!

There are 22 inches of snow at the snowstick.   In 2013 we had 24 inches of snow at the stick.  I am certain with the snow forecast in the next few days we will see and raise a new record.

On the way back from town someone  went off the road….the road was wet but not slippery…

Some people are easily distracted while driving.  The Sheriff finally got out of his vehicle and directed traffic after a couple of idiots behind us passed us by going into oncoming traffic.  Some people just have shit for brains.

Snow, snow, blowing snow and then extreme cold is forecast for us in the next few days.  We are staying home.

Snowy

It snowed again on Sunday.

We spent the evening with friends enjoying their home cooking and playing games; Shuffleboard and Crokinole.  They served roast beef, potatoes, green and yellow beans, orange and yellow carrots with Kuchen for dessert. I had not tasted Kuchen before, it is a rich custard dessert with fruit and a sweet dough crust…Germans and Russians are credited with the recipe.

Today we will prepare for the storm coming on Tuesday.  Making sure the bird feeders are topped off, the vehicle is full of gas and the shovel is at the ready.

June

Our nephew was by and took care of the majority of the new snow.  I think we got about 7 inches overnight.   Then it kept snowing….and I took a nap so who really knows for sure.  It is plenty of fill your boots kinda snow.

June is growing.  June is the name we gave the snowbank  in our yard.

The Grands have carved snow tunnels through June and played King of the Hill there with Chance.  June always disappears before June…but we still like to call her that.

I moved snow off the patio and the walk, and shoveled in front of one of the garages…and fed the birds.   I did not go to Bingo…the wind chill is very cold.

Schools were closed as was the Clinic in town.

March Snowstorm

We had a dilly of a snowstorm.  It began with rain then it turned to sleet and then snow.  The sleet made music on the windows.

We had 10 inches of snow at the snowstick before the storm, now we have 19 inches at the snowstick.  This was such a heavy snow I am sure it sunk sank decreased in measurement some…I will guess we had 12+ inches of snow.

Here Chance is walking in a tire track on the way to the mail box. (She who sees Robins first  went to work, or my other baby brother went out.)  Our drive way had no tire track and it was hard walking…just lifting our boots that high was an effort. We made a path and the return trip was easier.  The old Border Collie kept laying down to clean off the pads of his feet.

Toward evening my other baby brother and nephew came to plow us out.

The shoveling began and will continue.  We are supposed to get more snow through Tuesday.  If one had energy after shoveling this would be snowball fight snow or maybe even a snowman.

Snowsoons

Yesterday we had a winter storm warning.  It snowed and blowed.  Seems it snows just about everyday. Kinda like the monsoons that we used to have every afternoon when we lived in Florida …just to bring the humidity level up a bit.   Perhaps we are having snowsoons.  Snows everyday anyway might as well have a word for it.  The snowsoons have me standing at the window watching it snow..and remarking “Looky that more snow, goody goody.”

We went out for supper..good to get out and see a couple of different faces.  She who see Robins first and my other baby brother who has been real busy joined us. 

The roads were a real treat on the way home.

 

This is what a ground blizzard look like.  The snow drifts over the road and makes it all icy and you cannot tell where the road begins and ends.

This is a corner..follow the weeds on the edge of the road…as soon as we could we got off the road and took a dirt back road the rest of the way home.

Here is the snow stick report.

Thirteen inches of snow at the snow stick.  At the rate of an inch a day we are still looking at May 1st..unless it rains but it has to warm up to do that.  It is cold during the day..in the 30’s and in the 20’s at night. Wintery.  This is the 6th month and 14th day of snow.

Most everyone I talk with is as discouraged as I am, and they cannot wait for winter to be over.  Misery loves company I guess..at least I know I am not alone:)

Winter Wonderland

Let it snow let it snow let it snow.  Someone must have opened the snow gates.

In the middle of the night on Friday Chance had to go out.  It was raining ice..it sounded funny on the roof of the overhang as I encouraged him to hurry and do his thing.

Then it snowed..then it quit..then it started to snow again.  I think we have about six inches of new snow…heavy wet snow.

Late in the afternoon we went out to the big snow bank.

Yes, we have enough snow.

I cannot see out the living room window.

Why?  Because all the snow falls off of the roof and falls right in front of the window.  Far Guy says he might shovel it out tomorrow.  Strange to look out a window and all you see is a snow bank.

We ventured out to go to the dump and recycling center.  The whole world is white out there.

Back on the path

Well we survived the snowstorm, we only got six to eight inches of the beautiful white stuff. It blew around so much, it is hard to tell an exact amount. We have now plunged into the deep freeze, it was 18 below last night ( -28 C). Spring seems far away... Minnesota weather in March can do just about anything.

I got my computer back. Nothing was saved from the crash. Far Guy held up my old hard drive and said "All your photos are in here sweetheart." Ya, well extract them then..instead he said he is going to take it apart and look around in there. He did bring me my dinner at the computer, I was online with HP trying to get a software issue resolved..finally success. My secure digital card reader is not working, luckily I have another one on my printer. Far Guy says "Maybe the backwoods guy just forgot to hook it up?" Maybe.. Far Guy says he will have a look see..

My old hard drive was like an old friend, I was familiar with him. I knew the in and outs of his moods. This new young guy hard drive..thought he would be a da Vinci screen saver with Fire Fox...that was not happening..he is now an Ocean with Explorer. Eventually I will get him all sorted out..right now his favorites are pathetic..my old guy had folders for favorites all organized into categories.. weather, news, television, my stuff, blogs, photo blogs, cooking blogs, ranch blogs, funny blogs, games, fun places to visit and animal shelters. He had seven years of favorites. He also had many email addresses, now he has only a few. Hopefully all my contacts will email me something and I can grab their address again. If not I guess they are SOL. Far Guy is of no help, he has a few e mail addresses..not many..I am so happy to be away from his disorganized computer.. SHE is a FireFox with HP (The boring one with the beams of light)..she isn't too bright, she will do in a pinch..but let me tell ya she is no lady..:)
