Finally

We finally had that Date!  Tilly cooperated...she had a dead battery for some unknown reason.  Far Guy will figure it out.

You can guess where we ended up!  Yes, that is Far Guy's newest dash ornament.

We made it to town and back home safely.

We had a quiet day we both worked on the Christmas Ornaments and after we got home both of my brothers and their wives visited!

Minnesota weather:  Warm day  High 82F or 28C  Low 58F or 14C

Yes we went to A & W:)

Tilly on Main Street

We ran all kind of errands in town...Post Office, recycling etc...then we picked up Tilly and went to lupper.

He has his blinker on here as he was leaving the parking spot.

Not many tourists here yet so we could park in the center of Main Street.  Yes Park Rapids is one of the few towns where you can park in the center of the street or diagonal.  The Main Street is extra wide because when they laid out the town they wanted enough room for horses pulling a sled of lumber to turn around in the street.

A number of buildings on Main Street are empty.  There is no longer a dime store or a fabric/quilting/yarn store.

Gasoline was $4.04 in town. (Tilly uses lots of gas)

Anyways.  Tilly endured a few snowflakes in the air....I think Far Guy was about ready to catch them all. Tilly is home and safely in her garage.  Goodness knows what he would have done if it started to rain!!

Minnesota Weather:  High 42F or 6C  Low was 27F or -3C. Cloudy all day.

Friday

We rescued Tilly from the repair shop.  The gaskets she needs have been ordered.  She needed to come home and go into the garage just incase it rains.  She will go back to have the repairs and an oil change soon.

Far Guy replaced my lawn mower battery and fixed a flat tire so I could mow. I dug out my lawn mowing stuff...special long sleeved shirt, red rubber boots, hat, safety glasses and special carrier for my phone.  I mowed the wild gardens east of the house...we like to mow it to give the wildflowers a bit of a chance!  The grass is turning green after the rain we had earlier this week.

We made pizza for supper.

Minnesota weather:  High 55F or 13C  low was 35F or 2C.

Andy and Tilly

Our son in law Andy took Far Guy's Desoto to the local car show on Saturday morning.  Far Guy did not feel good enough to attend.  However we are happy that Andy could go and show Tilly off!

Photo by fellow blogger and neighbor Leah!

Andy reports that many people stopped to talk with him!  Some people he knew from Robotics too!

We enjoyed seeing them all...Andy, Jen and Sadie.  Jen helped me do some of the hard housework...vacuuming, cleaning the tub and scrubbing the bathroom floor and helping me change the sheets on the bed.  So wonderful to have helping hands!

It was a nice day in Minnesota the high was 79 F or 27C and the low 59F or 15C eh!

We sat outside part of the afternoon visiting with Cousin's Bonnie and Wayne and in the evening with my other baby brother and she who sees robins first.

A boot

Far Guy got the new boot installed on his old car Tilly.  The boot is filled with grease and it protects the drive shaft from costly repairs.  Although Far Guy says it was an expensive fix.  I replied "old cars are expensive."

We went out for breakfast and ran a few errands while she was being worked on.  Afterwards Far Guy filled her up with the proper gas...premium.

So other than some polishing the old car Tilly is ready to go to car shows this summer.

Tilly's Rich Sister

Tilly attended the car show in Park Rapids yesterday.  She is looking fine.  Far Guy spent a number of hours making sure she was as perfect as she could be for the car show.

Tilly has "stuff"  a Drive In Theater speaker and a take out tray with A & W mugs.

Now meet Tilly's rich sister Sugar Plum.  She belongs to Pat and Mona from up north.

Sugar Plum has all the bells and whistles that can be on a 1959 Desoto...versus pain jane Tilly.

Pat and Mona's Sugar Plum Desoto won two trophies...Lion's Choice and Best Orphan.  We are very happy for them!!

It was  a bit cool especially early in the morning...I was thankful for a coat.  Far Guy said it was 44F when he got up.  We had a good time visiting with a number of friends and relatives during the car show.   We came home and had a nap..or in my case a sleep as daughter Jen as said " Mom a nap is two hours or less."

Car Report

The mechanic in town that does work on Tilly says she needs a new boot, but is safe to drive until she is repaired.  They are ordering parts.  ( I am not sure what a boot is in car speak but apparently it covers something important)

Far Guy brought her back home.

Tilly is looking good for being 65 years old. We hope to get to a couple of car shows yet this summer.

Goals

We hope that Far Guy gets out of the hospital today and gets his infusion.  It is the goal for the day.  Then our goal is to keep him away from germy and perfume soaked people and out of the hospital.

One of his goals is to work on his car come Spring and get to a few car shows during the summer.

We both need time away from hospitals and time to rest and recoup from funerals and flu and feel somewhat normal again.

Quiet Saturday

I had a quiet Saturday catching up on a few things including a couple of naps.

Far Guy did some "stuff" with his car.  We have car shows this week so we need to polish her up!  Hopefully it won't rain or be smoky...cause Tilly does not go out in the rain and Far Guy does not go out in the smoke.

Thank you for all your encouraging comments yesterday, I appreciate them.  I struggled what to say...and decided that since my grands and great grands may need the health information some day...I would tell it like it is.

Gathering spot

When we had Tilly in town we went by an  old trail that used to lead to Crocus.  A gathering/parking spot that some teenagers may or may not have visited back in the 1960's.

The light was not great that day so we will go back and see if we can get a better photo someday.

You can barely see the reflectors on the timber that block off the entrance.

Date Night

Far Guy missed taking Tilly to the car show so we went on a date night instead.  The wildfire smoke is mostly cleared out...some still remains.

Can you guess where we went?  Hint: they have car hops.

After supper we  had a nice visit with Far Guy's cousins at their lake place.

Lilac

 Our Lilac is blooming.

It has more blooms than it had last year...some are in bud yet.  It needs a good trim after it has bloomed.

I cleaned the floor in the Desoto garage yesterday...Far Guy had Tilly out so she could get a new exhaust system.  I think perhaps she is ready for the summer now...except she has bug marks from the trip that need to be polished away.   I thought maybe she was so shiny and slick that the bugs would just slip off...well that did not happen.

Detailed

My baby brother and his bride had visitors from Texas.  The couple have two children.  The oldest boy started a Car Detailing business when he was thirteen years old...since he goes to residences to do the cars he needed a driver because he didn't yet have a Driver's License.   So he hired a older fellow to work and be the driver.   Presently he is old enough to have a Drivers License and his business is flourishing.  He knows everything there is to know about detailing a vehicle....and enjoys his work.

He did such a great job on the Desoto that we told him we want him back again next year!

The entrepreneurial spirit!   Finding a job you love, researching everything about it and then being a doer!

Marvelous to see such a nice young man succeed!

Better

I am feeling better...for an old gal.  My non tooth area/cavern/hole in my head has finally calmed down.  No more pain or throbbing.  Yeah me...

Yesterday I helped Far Guy with his car...scrubbing now that is in my wheelhouse.  He wanted the vinyl on the floor scrubbed before he puts those newly covered seats back in his car.   I must have done okay....then I had a nap.

Before and After

Here is a photo of the old front seat.

They were very worn under several seat covers.

Andy, Far Guy and I went over and picked up the recovered seats.

They were able to save the cream colored vinyl, the gold trim and most of the rose goldie beige vinyl. The new panels are a close match they are on the far left and far right...and of course the new fabric that is on the seat that is the original fabric design from 1959.

Far Guy is very pleased.  He was happy with the work they did.

Design Choices

Andy helped Far Guy bring the Desoto car seats into a place that does auto upholstery.  They cannot match the vinyl exactly but it comes real close.   Fabric was ordered last Fall...it is the original 1959 design...at $167.00 a yard.  The seats are both fabric and vinyl with a gold rolled trim.

There were two perhaps three seat covers over the original seats.

We will have to wait and see if the door panels match the seat covers close enough or next winter the door panels will have to be redone.

Photo of the door panels.  The seat is off to the right.

Far Guy would like to keep the car as original as possible.

Car Show

We attended the car show in Park Rapids.

As luck would have it...another Desoto from Argyle Minnesota was in the show and parked right behind us.  Desoto row!!   It is the same year 1959 same model Firesweep but it had some upgrades that we do not have power steering, two rear antennas, the name Firesweep on the glove box, two outside mirrors and probably more things that I know nothing about.   Far Guy says don't forget the side chrome, chrome rocker panels, the clock and curb feelers.

It was a very pretty car...the upholstery had been redone too.

Fun to see another car similar to ours.

It was a good day.  We came home and I napped for several hours.

Warm and Sunny

It was a warm day on Tuesday.  85 F or 29 C eh.   I slept late...I am still exhausted.  I managed part of a woodcarved Christmas ornament...Far Guy did three.

We made hotdish for supper...diced potatoes, mixed veggies, hamburger and what makes it a hotdish some kind of soup...we like Cream of Chicken....and melted cheese all over thee top.   Far Guy doesn't really care for it but he indulges me so that I can have some for freezer food.

I did some laundry and rested.

The other day we took Tilly to town and took some pictures.

That is a Dragonfly landing on top of the antenna.

Date Night

We drove Tilly to town and went out for supper.   It has been a long time since we visited the local Steakhouse.  The steak was great but it sure went up in price...doubled in price from before the pandemic.

Then we cruised Main and stopped at the Fairgrounds for a photo.

Our Great Nephews Jordan and Gavin and Great Niece Aubrey are here on vacation so they went for a ride too...and both boys got a chance to drive.

They all liked the old car.  They are great kids, they used to live right next door now they live in Western North Dakota.  The boys are going into their Senior year and Aubrey into her Freshman year of High School.

12.7 miles per gallon and she uses Premium...it was $5.19 a gallon.

Cruise

Nope not that kind of cruise.  A cruise around town in the new old car (Tilly).   Far Guy joined the local Car Club.

After the cruise we met at A & W, it was a nice evening and there are a bunch of picnic tables there.

We met another couple, he acquired his car a Mustang a few months ago.  He was also a new member.  I visited with his wife.

Town people are sometimes stand offish...stuck up...most are not the kind that will walk up and introduce themselves....so you have to be outgoing enough to break the ice.  (They will ask everyone else around who are those people...but not walk up and ask for themselves.)

Far Guy wanted a photo of Tilly and the Park Theater on Main.   We hope to get a better photo sometime ...this one will have to do for now....as you can see there were many tourists in town.

I would like to get just the car and the theater!  We may have to go into town later at night just when the theater is closing.

It was a fun evening out, it probably counts as a date night even though I bought supper because I was in town early getting an oil change on the Buick.  Far Guy met me in town and after all the doings we dropped off his Desoto named Tilly to get new brakes.

Yesterday we cleaned out the garage that Tilly resides in because she rarely leaves her garage.
