Cards etc...

We had thunder bumpers, wind and rain on Wednesday during the middle of the night, our rain gauge showed 2 1/2 inches of rain...lots of little sticks down in the yard.  I will mulch them up when I mow.  The grass is really going to grow now.

It was too wet to mow so I finished some cards.  I use watercolor pens, watercolor pencils, some solid watercolors what ever you call the watercolors in a tray and Prismacolor pencils.  Glitter in various forms to embellish the cards.   I stamp all my own cards on watercolor paper.  When I stamp I do many many cards at once cause stamping is messy...I throw them all in a box and then when I feel like working with color I have many stampings to choose from.

I mail out many cards and give some away so I need a good supply.

I bought this little stamp on sale...it was kinda ugly...but once I colored it and glittered it up a lot I really like it for a wintery card.

Far Guy worked on a project for me...a pair of tools to help with my milk can project.

Far Guy got his infusion and had something happen...a first for him.  His arm started to hurt and got incredibly cold.   The nurses wrapped his arm in a warm towel...but it was still cold and painful for a long time after we got home..

Groceries was an adventure...they were out of bread, yogurt and potatoes.  They had no print out for me, the young fellow said "It will be online for you."  It was...but a paper copy should accompany an order.  I don't let the delivery boy unload the cart...I disinfect everything but the fruit right there in the parking lot and put the groceries in my own bags.

Construction

I am working on getting 80 crochet squares joined.   It is a logistical nightmare consisting of several oh no moments....when two flowers were next to each other...the sequence is supposed to be ...a flower square...and a plain square...well someones brain must have been on vacation so she had to frog some of the joining and correct her mistakes.   I thought about leaving it...them..as there were two small easy to fix mistakes but one whole row was off...my CDO would not have allowed it.  Fix the errors and carry one correctly!   It is heavy and cumbersome...all the horizontal rows have been joined and I am working on the vertical ones now.

I threw it on the couch when I got out from under it for supper.  Far Guy cooked Hawaiian chicken, romaine salad and veggies. 

I have been watching Netflix while working on this project.  It Takes Two was a hoot and I enjoyed it very much!  I give it 9 out of 10 stars.   My sister recommended Salt....oh my...I watched it but all the time wondered about the stunt woman!  I give it a 3 out of 10 stars.  Jen recommended Ozark  a series so I started watching it...it is a bit gory and morbid too but I will probably continue to watch it...I give it a 5 out of 10 stars.

About that plate rack.  Far Guy and I built all the kitchen cabinets and drawers.   I wanted a plate rack...but one that was easy to clean.

See that tiny screw in the front?   If that screw is removed the whole rack comes out and you can clean the entire shelf. 

Our design works great...we had several different prototypes...this one  fits perfectly!  The wood is angled with dowels in between...the piece of wood at the back meets the wall perfectly.   I learned all about cabinet carpentry skills the summer we built the cupboards and drawers.

We are still feeling just fine, we went for a walk...it is downright chilly here.  It spit rain on us but neither of us is that sweet that we would melt.

A Vision

Chance and one of the piles of lumber.

I had a vision. No, I am not going nuts.. I had an idea for a piece of furniture for upstairs..on the very naked huge wall. I tried to draw it on a piece of paper for Far Guy, we went up and measured and got some more ideas. Far Guy made a plan..and lots of trips to the lumber yard. This was a four part project. He began building July 10..and he finished yesterday, no he did not work on it everyday..but almost.

The first part was the bottom unit which will hold household files..the drawers are huge! I helped to build the drawers, they are heavy duty and built from Aspen or piss Popple. It does make for some nice drawers. The drawer fronts and the entire rest of this monstrosity was built from White Pine..2 by 12 inch lumber.

The bookcase/knick knack thingy was next..

I wanted to have euro style hinges that you can't see from the outside, they also came with euro measurements..we only had one tiny little plastic ruler that measures mm.

Far Guy kept misplacing it, mm is a real pain in the butt. I wanted glass doors on the bookcase, so I don't have to dust very often. The design of the doors was a pain, but eventually Far Guy came up with a plan. We decided to use Antlers for the door and drawer pulls, thanks to our friend Sue in Indiana we had lots to choose from!

I wanted to have window seats on both sides. Far Guy built them with two huge drawers underneath to store more books and other junk/stuff. You should disregard the fancy looking curtains..they are just temporary..I will sew some new ones that are the proper length and ones that will match the window seat covers that I have designed in my brain. Yes, I am going to sew, I CAN sew, I do not enjoy it..I may have to call for help, and I may have to actually measure something..instead of just eyeballing it.. I am NOT sewing til the weather turns cold. I have set a goal and will have it completed by Thanksgiving..I am sure that it will be something to blog about before then. In the mean time Far Guy says I owe him big time as this project was a big pain in the butt...but it turned out fantastic..I love it and it pretty much matches my vision:)
