Maddie is a baker

Maddie conquered the sour dough bread!  She named her sour dough starter Clint Yeastwood :)

Grandpa got the first loaf!

It turned out great and was very tasty!

You can see my gluten free starter in the background...I mixed up my dough...it might make a pancake or a crepe...it is resting and then goes in the fridge overnight.  It may never be bread. Time will tell.

Maddie was very excited that she actually did it!  She is a sour dough baker now!!

  4. Congratulations! Once you get the starter healthy, it is quite robust. We store ours without feeding in our refrigerator for a month or two at a time. Then when my wife wants to use it, she brings it out to the counter and feeds it a day or two ahead of time to being it back and then makes a lot of bread which we eat some and freeze the rest for a later day.

  7. Gluten -free sounds great. My granddaughter has celiac. I wonder if she has the recipe.

  8. Yum! Sourdough is so tasty. I haven't done the starter in many years - actually a couple of decades. I had some major failures in actually making the bread. Maddie's looks perfect. Bet grandpa is enjoying it.

  9. Look at that smile! She has a right to be proud of herself because that is a beautiful loaf. And to give the first loaf to Grandpa is a sign of true love. Clint Yeastwood! I may have laughed out loud at that one! :-)
    Blessings and hugs,

  10. I see some of my flour in the background! I had decent luck with the Brown Rice Flour recipe. I like the texture of the other Bob's Red Mill but it seems dry beans are causing me severe cramping and that has never happened before. Some of his flour has those. It's frustrating to me because they are good sources of protein. I will email you the recipe that actually worked well for me - - but it was for the bread machine.

  18. LD....I have been hinting to my wife to get out the bread making machine. I can only eat whole wheat for diabetes and we could pull it off with some good recipes . That sour dough looks perfect and inviting to eat.
