Glitter

Far Guy put the glittered bowling ball in place in its holder.   It still needs a bit of touch up.

This whole area needs a bit of work!  Maybe one day soon:)

Big accomplishment for the day...the swelling in my nose is going down and I can breath through BOTH nostrils!  Yeah me!

What's cooking? Far Guy made brats (no bun) green beans and a baked potato.

Minnesota Weather: Cool  High 61F or 16C  Low was 42F or 6C.  We need it to rain for at least a week.

Glitter glitter everywhere

I am slowly adding new glitter to my bowling ball.

Spray glue works pretty good. I am sure the wind took some of the glitter everywhere!

Minnesota weather: High 78F or 26C  Low 47F or 8C.   We may get rain starting on Sunday.

What's cooking?  Calzones but they are not as easy as our son in law Andy makes them look.

Yard Stuff

We got some soil for some bare spots in the yard and will plant some grass seed soon hopefully just before a rain.   We can always hope for rain. It is dry here.

I unearthed some of my pretty whirly gigs.

That bird feeder on the right side of the photo is supposed to be squirrel proof...well maybe for dumb squirrels...they have figured out how to unclip the springs that shut the feed off.  Buggers anyways.

I put up some solar bees around the wreath next to the door.  Not sure if they get enough sunshine there.

I have some more "bee" stuff to add to the wreath but every time I go upstairs to retrieve them I forget and do something else... like put stuff away that I have thrown upstairs ...like look at yarn...sort yarn...:)

Nice day yesterday sunny and 72 F (Far Guy says it was warmer than that!) or 23 C eh.  Supper was tri tips over a baked potato and fruit..raspberries and pineapple.  Oh and a loaf of fresh bread.

Kidney stones oh my

Far Guy  is having a bout with kidney stones...his first experience.   I told him it is worse than labor pains.  We will head to the clinic today...to see if they can figure out if it is small enough to pass.

I drink lemonade most all of the time to help dissolve my stones should I have any...I am a stone maker, as are our daughters.

I keep telling Far Guy he will live...

We had beautiful weather yesterday, the evening was perfect 66 degrees and a slight breeze.   I sat outside for awhile...heard the Loons calling down on the lake.

I put out a whirly gig.

I got all my new solar lights out ready to replace the non working ones.

Lawn catch up

Finally got around to mowing.  The grass really grew after the rains.

It looks much better now.  It is not a perfect lawn but it is green:)

Right now I have two baskets of flowers that belong to Jen.

Far Guy picked them out for her and hopefully we can keep them alive and away from critters for her.

I do not have any flowers this year...the squirrels, rabbits and deer ...

I have a garden of metal art and solar lights....no need to water...

It works for me.

Adventures on Monday

I spent about 25 minutes in the Post Office mailing off ornaments to family and friends...you know who you are so be on the lookout!   The postal lady is practically brain dead and kept exclaiming how many packages I had (16) and wasn't it fortunate that no one else was coming into the Post Office to stand in line.   It is  first come first serve brain dead lady.   I seriously thought about going in there five minutes before she closed just to irritate her...and even though I am daylight savings time cranky I figured I would be nice. On our first trip of the day to town we bought bird seed, and paper to print out the Christmas Letter.  Last of the big shoppers.

We had a leak under the kitchen sink.   That drain has always been a problem...we fix it every couple of years.  This time we may have fixed it for good... crossing our fingers.  I was just the plumbers assistant...we had to go to town for new parts and fresh plumbers putty.  Far Guy was the plumber in charge.

I took down the flags in the yard but didn't get new ones put up yet.

I suppose I should take this scarecrow gal down for the winter.  She makes me smile.

The S word is in the forecast....bummer.

Rain

We got some wonderful rain!  My rain gauge shows 3 1/2 inches of rain in one gauge and 3 inches in the other one.   The grass is green again thanks to the rain.  It is delightfully cool after the rain...the high yesterday was 73 F or 23 C eh!

The flowers in the small garden look pretty good.

Pay no attention to the weeds...I will weed one of these days.  Every time I get down on the ground to weed I think of that ole bear...and wonder how fast I can get up off the ground or should I just fall over and play dead.

Love a rainy day...I caught up on things around the house and started some new projects...and had a nap.

Cool

It has turned cool here after the dust storm.

I have mowed our front lawn twice, the side yard I left for the bees.  I tell ya what I looked like a survivor of the dust bowl from the Dirty Thirties when I came back in.  I washed my boots off outside and stripped at the door.  What wasn't covered in dirt was covered in pollen.  Uffda...we need rain.

It may freeze here 34 and 36 F is too close for comfort.  Far Guy brought his Strawberry Basket inside.

Yesterday we got soil for the Sheep Tank...and my baby brother helped me unload it.   Nothing will be planted until the weekend.  Carrots and lettuce...we will purchase a couple of tomato plants because we didn't get our seeds planted this year.

Rain day three

The rain is wonderful!  Our soil and trees were thirsty! It is a gentle rain the ground soaks up almost immediately.

We have a bright spot in our yard...a whirly gig in pink.   I love the things that move in the wind...I have learned that all the individual wires that attach to the spokes must be reinforced with glue...or the petals fly off...and  that upsets the whirly factor and me.

Yesterday we went for a drive up North to get Far Guy fitted for his new glasses ( trifocals).   It rained the whole way.

Finally

It took me a couple of days but I finally got the Fall flag up.

This is my usual October Fall flag...I have had it for many years ...like about 20 years.  We used to have a Hallmark Store in town that carried Toland Flags....if you ask me there is no other flag that compares in richness of color or durability.  I have not been compensated in any way for this review.

A scarecrow, pumpkins, a pesky crow, apples, corn stalks, falling colorful leaves and sunflowers...what is not to like.

Our local Walmart finally has curbside pickup...the app is pretty cool...we can check in when we leave home and when we park at the pickup spot it was only a matter of a few minutes and someone brought out our order.  Easy Peasy. Far Guy thought is was much better than the local grocery store pickup.

Sunset as we left to go get our order.  We saw one deer when we left and five when we came back...the ditches still have green grass so guess where the deer are?

It was a chilly day...I mulched for the neighbors....one place was so heavy with leaves that I could push them into the woods with the lawn mower.   My brothers and their brides visited in the afternoon out on the patio ...they said in the winter visits would be real short because they were only staying until they get cold.

Far Guy still has discomfort but is improving slowly.

Rockets and a dish

The Dames Rockets or Hesperis matronalis is blooming.

Such a pretty touch of color along Minnesota roadsides.  I would have waded into the patch to get closeups but I knew there were wood/deer ticks in the tall grass.

I found a glass dish ornament that will serve as a butterfly water source.  I will have to wash it out daily.

I had two long naps on Sunday...can't seem to catch up.  I almost missed a visit with Far Guy's cousins Jack and Pat as they stopped by to visit from a safe distance.

We watched Church in the morning and recycled in the afternoon. Our weather turned really warm 89 F or 31 C eh!

Yard

The sun was out for 15 minutes and nearly blinded me.  After that we didn't see it the rest of the day.

Brown and white our winter colors.
Good thing I kept some of the glass plate decorations out...hope they make the entire winter!   They are a bright spot in our dreary yard.

Busy Days

Not sure where the time goes.  I spend more time in the yard I guess.  The dandys are driving me nuts...they make the lawn look so untidy.

I spent a few hours taking care of Poison Ivy, still have more to do.  Had a nap.  Started a new crochet project...not sure if it will work or not.  Did some laundry, watered the seeded grass and flowers and cleaned out the bird baths.   The Oaks are real messy now...the pollen has covered everything.

This is one of the new yard ornaments...it is a solar light the whole bottle lights up at night.

So happy to see a few Dragonflies today to help with the skeeters.

Flower Bed

I prepped the small flower bed...pulled the weeds... I went to the local hardware store earlier this spring and bought some copper pipe for solar light holders and just stuck them in the ground willy nilly.
Before:
During

The OCD in me wanted to do something about those Solar Lights...so I lined them up. Perfect!

After I took this photo I added some more soil and planted these flowers.
Red and White Impatiens, a Double Impatiens mixed colors, Salvia Red and Salvia Victoria Blue, Blue Pansy and Yellow Violas.

I hope they grow and the squirrels leave them alone. I also hope it doesn't freeze.

Brrr

It remains cold here and they say we are supposed to have some nasty winter weather later today.  Uffda.

Sunflower

Last week I got a very special gift.

Something for my little flower garden.  It is just perfect!

IMG_0766

Do you see it?

IMG_0769

A sunflower!  Thank you Leah!  She is a neighbor and a fellow blogger!

The sunflower is a perfect addition to my not so perfect garden.  The squirrels damage/eat plants…it is what it is.  The sunflower makes it look lots better!

Twirly Gig

This Twirly Gig was a May Day gift for me …from me. Somehow it ended up in my shopping cart one day when I was buying bird seed. When I got to the car Far Guy said “ That twirly gig must have lept right off the shelf into your cart.” He knows me well. I had one just like it last year except it was pink.  That one nearly drove me nuts…it kept losings its petals…I glued it many times…until finally the lawn mower took care of some of the petals and I threw the whole thing away.  This time I have fooled the foreigners that made it…I glued every wire on every petal before I put it outside.

New spinner

I wonder how long it will last?

It is one of the only things that remotely looks like a flower in our yard.

Took my Dad to Bingo…we were losers. He won last week when I was under the weather with my oral surgery…go figure…who is the jinx?

My mouth is finally better. I still have a bit of soreness and an earache…after 9 days…the stitches haven’t driven me crazy yet…I hope they dissolve soon…two are gone…two are left….flopping around driving my tongue nuts. I have finished the antibiotics and hope the infection does not come back again.

Red Headed Woodpecker

For some reason we don’t see the Red Headed Woodpecker…who remembers Woody the Woodpecker he had a red head too?

We have Pileated Woodpeckers, Red Bellied Woodpeckers, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers and assorted Sapsuckers and the beautiful Common Flicker.

We are in the breeding range of the Red Headed Woodpecker but not the wintering over area.

Anyways…my Dad made me one for Christmas.  He was busy in his garage/shop…cutting sanding and painting.

Gift from my Dad

Far Guy put it up on one of the poles of the wood/tractor shed this week.  As you can see we still have plenty of snow.

Christmas Flags

I finally got the flags changed.  Chance supervised.

Flag by wheel

It keeps spitting snow…all week…it is very dreary weather.

Lionel Flag

The Lionel flag is fun to look at so bright and colorful.

Far Guy had a Doctors appointment in Fargo yesterday, the roads were wet and sloppy but not icy.  We stopped at a Dollar General Store and Menards…we are the last of the big shoppers. Chance enjoyed the outing more than we did.

Chance was exhausted when we got home…so we all had a long nap…and woke up to more snow.

Soon I must make a list and check it twice…but not just yet

October is almost over

It seems like October began just a few days ago and now there are only a couple of days left. Where does time go anyways.  Sometime I just want to holler STOP…I need more time to catch up!

IMG_6436

The scarecrow flag is up.  Most of the snow has melted.

IMG_6481

It was a dreary day, no sunshine, but at least there were no gale force winds. We went for a ride in the late afternoon…it is dark after supper…Chance misses his evening drives…so we have to take him for a ride during the day.

I am thankful that we got our yard work done and for a warm and cozy home.
