Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentines's Day spent with those you love!

I sent bags with heart shaped boxes of candy and other treats for the Great Grandchildren.  Their Valentine boxes went to their Daycare, at school everyone makes their own Valentine boxes.

Minnesota weather on Friday: Partly cloudy  High was 37F or 3C  the Low was 25 or -3C eh!

We ventured out to return an item to wally world and to pick up the last of the snapshots I ordered for the Photo Album Project for 2026!

Supper was no cooking only warming up leftovers!

The eyes have it

Cats...or Cataracts, Far Guy has them and surgeries have been scheduled.  He is a bit bummed out that one appointment yielded five more appointments.  Can't say I blame him but I know he will be happier when he can see clearly again!

We had lunch with my other baby brother and she who sees robins first as they were passing through town to visit Katie for her upcoming 44th birthday in Western North Dakota. Happy Birthday Katie!

Minnesota weather: High 30F or -1C Low was 21F or -6C. Partly cloudy day.

3D print of a cat for Cee Cee's Valentine box. I painted the eyes and put a bit of color on the nose and the inside of the ears.  Andy will put it all together..the cat will be peeking out of a cardboard box. It is amazing what that 3D printer can do!

Here is the completed Valentine box. The heart is also a 3 D print.

Quiet Day

Tuesdays are usually quiet days as Sadie is in Doggie Daycare.  She was happy to see us when she came home.

Far Guy drove me to the grocery store, we picked up a prescription, got gas and a car wash.  The car looks blue again instead of a grey blue.

We made pork chops, rice and green beans for supper.  We made the green beans with bacon and a bit of vinegar just the way the guys will eat them.

Far Guy was a bit hoarse yesterday from the biopsy on Monday.  He says it hurts a bit too.

This is Great Granddaughter Peach's Valentine box. She is going to love it...probably she will jump up and down many times in her excitement!

Minnesota weather: Partly sunny High was 32F or 0C  low was 16F or -9C.

Relaxing moment yesterday...waiting for a train and admiring the art work on the boxcars.

a taco

Creativity is alive and well this Valentine's week!  Jen helps the Great grandchildren with Valentine boxes every year.   They choose their own design and help with some of the design pieces.

There was lots of paper crimping going on the night they visited here.  I helped to put Hey Mikey's Valentine box together.

Interesting what can be made out of a cardboard box, tissue paper and crimped paper.  There is slot at the top amongst the dollops of sour cream!

Valentine Boxes

When I was a kid we usually got a shoe box or a paper bag to decorate to collect Valentines from classmates at school.  What fun it was to read all those Valentines!

This week in the craft room Valentine boxes were made.  Paper, boxes and feathers.

A flamingo and a pikachu for Cee Cee and Hey Mikey.

Valentine boxes have come a long way:)

Little Valentines

We had belated Valentines here one evening as the Great Grandchildren needed a babysitter or two when their parents went out to a company party.

I had Valentines gifts for them that I bought a few weeks ago. Gotta love the dollar store that is now a dollar twenty five.

Ree was having a bit of stranger danger.  Her Mom calls her Peach.

Cee Cee

Big smiles from Cee Cee and Hey Mikey.

They had a fun night, Cee Cee  ate all her brothers valentine candy and put hers in the fridge for the next time she visits.  They played video games and had snacks.

Day after

We are birthday and valentined out.   I took Far Guy out for supper on his birthday, he had a Clucker ( Chicken with cheese and bacon) and I had a plain old burger just the way I like them nothing else touching my meat and bun.   Far Guy said he had a good day and 73 seems older than 72 or at a minimum sounds older!  He says "Thanks for all the birthday wishes!"

After supper on Valentine Day...Andy cooked...Philly Cheese Nachos... we took Valentines to the little kids.

Now back to our normal scheduled activities.  Onward and forward to another year!

I finally got the tax info in the mail to the account...so I can cross something off my list!

Still cold and a new computer

It was -40 F when Far Guy got up on Saturday morning.   I snuggled back in for a bit and then got up to take a photo. Which at some point will appear on this blog....maybe.

***** Update: I had a facetime tutorial with Jen...I loaded this photo from my old computer onto a flashdrive and got it to the new computer and drug it over to the desktop...all by myself.  It might be a miracle!  Jen gave me a great tour...and now my head is full of stuff to process.

After household duties were taken care of we moved my old Windows 7 across the room.  Then we unpackaged and set up the new computer an IMac...desktop.  I ordered it a few weeks ago.

So...I am learning more about Magic Mouses and Lightning Cords and red, yellow and green dots... and I have no idea where or how I got that photo up there but there it is..I took that photo this afternoon and found it under ...recents.  It is someplace that has liquid water! AND get this the screensaver changes with the daylight etc...now the stars are out...:)

I tried to import bookmarks from Chrome...I got some really really old ones...but it was better than nothing.  It all takes time.  I have sound now...I didn't for a while and it was bugging Far Guy....so he fixed that for me.   I stupidly plugged in my old speakers which obviously were not compatible.

We are cozy and warm and we are expecting another brutal night of sub zero weather.  At least we have electricity...some people do not in all the ice storms around the country.  What a bunch of crazy weather.

Oh yes Happy Valentine's Day to my husband!  He is a keeper! Everyday is Valentines Day around here!!

just another lovey dovey day

Happy Valentines Day!

At our home we celebrate love just about everyday… a hug, a kiss, a wink, a kiss thrown in the air with a smacking noise…or just a knowing glance exchanged…I try not to roll my eyes too often….he knows what that means too.  Many times we will be thinking the same thing…this is our 50th Valentine’s Day together.  ( We dated for 2 plus years before we got married.)

Has our love changed over the years…yes…it is less demanding and more accepting, thankful instead of taken for granted…we are most happy to be spending this Valentine’s Day togther.

When Far Guy was in the hospital I was going to run some errands…he told me to walk down the card aisle and pick out my valentine card…I said “Well I will read lots of them and then stroll down the chocolate aisle and then go by all the flowers.”  He thought that was a grand idea!

Valentine Flowers

Valentines Day.
IMG_4713
Wally World was ready for the masses.

As we entered the building there was a huge display of orchids, we walked around the table and enjoyed all the different colors.  I have never had an orchid in the house…Far Guy went as far as to read that they like three or four ice cubes a week…I had forgotten that.

It was like a flower gauntlet.

It started to smell like a Funeral Home…you know that heavy “rose” smell that goes along with death… they were all ready in bunches…every color you would expect for roses…and a few I had not seen in years…pale lavender, white tipped in pink…sunset colors… and the usual pink in many different shades, white, off white, yellow, orange and of course red.  I must have smiled as I bent down to inhale the smell, different roses smell different…and it must have been a recent shipment as there was not a bent neck to be found…a few had brown edges on their petals…but as a whole they looked good….it might have been a Wally World Miracle!  My husband said “I should buy you some roses!”  I replied “Nope a trip through that aisle was good enough for me.”   He smiled.

Then there were typical red and white bouquets with plastic Be Mine hearts on a stick and balloons.  On past the cakes and cookies with every kind of pink and white frosting with valentine greetings and sprinkles.  IMG_4541
I have enjoyed my roses outside for many years.
IMG_4735
I wish you blue skies and sunshine and someone or some critter (cat or dog) to spend the day with.
We will be staying home, avoiding the masses that go out for supper.  We will dine at home.  Steak and lobster that we will prepare together and something chocolate!

Happy Heart Day

Oh the sappy sweetness started early at our house. Yesterday I said “How about breakfast in town before we run errands?”  Good idea…breakfast out is one of his favorite things to do!Blowing Snow

The roads were yucky in spots… and the wind was blowing.

I will cook a lovely dinner at home for Valentines because it is cold and windy and wind chills are dangerously low… it is  safer just to stay home. Perhaps he will offer me some of the dark chocolate that he hoards in the cupboard.  Last year he took me by the card aisle in Wally World and let me read some cards…this year he joined me in the most fun of all a quick walk down the candy aisle with all the heart shaped boxes…well if it was good for him then it was good for me.

Blog Header-p0011

So I will make oven steak and spaetzle…one of his favorite meals.  Then I will let him listen to the hockey game.

As you can tell we are both hopeless romantics!

15,695 Valentines and Counting

Valentines Day..I am not sure why it is a big deal..are you supposed to love more today than other days?  Perhaps you are just supposed to show it today..with cards, flowers and chocolates. Another of those shopping commercial holidays..I say Bah Humbug..wrong holiday you say..maybe not.

How about those things you cannot buy that are shared everyday?   A hand to hold, a laugh to share, an inside joke that only two of you understand, a comfortable silence, a knowing glance that speaks more than words. 15,695 Valentines Days, one right after the other.  Everyday for 43 years can be Valentines Days, some are just more memorable than others. IMG_4289 Have you ever noticed that Chance sports three fourths of a heart shape?   He is quite a dog!  You have heard of wearing your heart on your sleeve..Chance wears his on his shoulder:)

Valentine's Day

When I was little, this was the best day!  The preparations were so much fun.  Smack dab in the middle of winter, the big jar of glue would be carried to a table at school during Art.  The red and white paper and your imagination were the only things needed to make the perfect Valentine container.  Then you got the class list, fresh copies..everyone buried their noses in the paper smelling those purple words.   I took my list home and diligently picked out the best and biggest Valentine for what ever boy seemed to be the object of my friendship that week.  Carefully I formed the letters of the names on the outside of the tiny envelopes, you did not want to miss anyone.  Even though you would just as soon forget the little boy that always had a green runny nose which he wiped on his shirt sleeves, first the right ..then the left..until they were shiny and slick with snot.  He wasn't ever anyone's boyfriend.  The little boy that every little girl wanted to call her "beau" ended up being a priest.  A nose filled with freckles instead of boogers..and he became a priest.  I am not sure what happened to "booger boy"..he is probably a Politician or a Lawyer:)

Happy Valentines Day!

Well it's here. The day of chocolate, perfume, flowers, cards, dinners out, diamonds and love. A simple lovey dovey day that has been commercialized to near death. " Every Kiss begins with Kay..the jewelers of course." I would like to stick my finger down my throat and barf when that commercial is on. The message is the larger the diamond..the less likely she is to resist your undying love. Hogwash..apparently their target audience is very young and very naive.

Today is the day that makes or breaks most Florists, it is the biggest day of their year..with red roses being the favorite. Since they are so busy, some roses will not be properly cut and get bent necks. You know the rose that looked fine when it was delivered but the next morning it looks funny..it was not cut properly underwater and has an air bubble that does not allow it to take up water. If you re-cut the stem underwater..you can save that sad little rose from a certain death.

Far Guy could bring me roses, I like them all..but they make me sneeze and my eyes run and water. He knows better than to bring me some perfume that I would promptly throw in the garbage. I don't wear the diamonds that I have, buying me more would not score him any points. He could bring me chocolate.. sometimes he surprises me with a simple Milky Way Dark candy bar..he always gets a kiss for one of those. An entire box of chocolates that have mystery centers would just get hard and mummify after I found the one with caramel in it. He could take me out to supper, but all the restaurants in this area will be full and we would have to wait in line. No thanks. We will have a quiet evening at home.

So where is the Romance? Where is all the lovey dovey stuff? It is in a loving glance, shared laughter, an "I Love You" and those things happen with great regularity at our house..so I guess you could say we don't need a special day..because everyday that we continue to appreciate each other and enjoy each others company is Valentines Day:)
