Brassiere

Someone lost their brassiere.

IMG_7397

Now that is some over the shoulder boulder holder!  Very patriotic!  Yes, even a brassiere can be art.

Brassiere..now that is an old fashioned word.  I bet if I asked my Grands  “What is a Brassiere?”  They would reply “What is that Grandma?”

My mother called it a brassiere.  When I got my first brassiere when I was nine ( YES NINE) I didn’t know if I should wear my undershirt over the top or underneath. (Yes young girls used to wear undershirts..they were warm in the winter.)  I settled for over the top.

I was very self conscious and wore sweaters almost all the time.  I was the first girl in my class to get a brassiere.  All the boys stared..and not at my beautiful eyes either.

I know without looking it up that the brassiere was invented by some man.  In my opinion all brassieres should become art:)

60

Well the name of the blog is NOT changing.  When I began to blog apparently I did not have the forethought to wonder what it should be called if I lived to be over 59 years old.   60 is still the Far Side of Fifty as far as I am concerned.

Connie second birthday

I am now “older than dirt.”   A long time ago when I was younger I thought anyone older than 50 was ancient. As I grew older I adjusted that to be 60..now I am there and no matter how much I would like to make that adjustment I cannot.

Logically I should just accept the fact that I am no longer a spring chicken and have become an old bird. Sometimes a cranky old bird.

I never ever thought I would reach 50 years old..60 was not even a possibility.   Yet here I am.  I should have been more prepared.

My other baby brother and “she who sees robins first” took us out on Saturday evening for a Prime Rib dinner to celebrate my birthday.  My other baby brother said “If you are turning 60 the least I can do is buy you dinner.” It was yummy!  In 9 years when he is 60 I will return the favor. ( Goodness gracious I will be on the cusp of 70 by then. Perhaps I should tuck 50 bucks away in an envelope marked other baby brothers sixtieth birthday steak, just incase I croak before his big day.)

I am not certain what wonderful thoughtful gift I will get from my husband.  Chance may have been shopping too, that dog is resourceful.  I heard my daughter was gifted a Waffle Iron for turning 36.  Romance runs rampant with birthday gifts up here in the Northland:)

September 11, 2011

Here in rural ( in the boonies) Minnesota not much has changed since 9/11/2001.  The local fire hall got some new fire trucks and equipment with Homeland Security dollars.

Of course I haven’t flown anywhere so I have not been subject to the pats downs or feel ups or whatever you perceive them as.  I have not seen any bomb sniffing dogs.  I have not seen any armed guards or Military men anywhere.  I did see a security cop walking the perimeter of the hospital/clinic one day..I said Hi and Chance wagged his tail.

I don’t have any radical neighbors..of course I am related to many of my neighbors and most of the rest of them I have known my entire life.

Was I scared during the 911 attacks..of course I was..scared of the unknown. ( I was pretty sure in the boonies Minnesota was not a huge target.)  Not much has changed for me in the past ten years.  I  am lucky.

I heard one day on the news that one in five Americans knew someone who was  killed or injured in the 911 attacks.  I knew no one.

I feel sorry for the children.  The children that lost their Mothers or Fathers that day.  I feel sadness for the soldiers that have died fighting terror and terrorists.  I wonder if we can ever feel as free or as safe as we did on 9/10/2001:(

Spring Time Planting

It is spring planting time, almost every morning this week on my way into town I saw a hearse headed out of town.  You see Minnesota has all kinds of “cold storage.” Sooner or later spring comes and the dead that were over wintered must be planted.  Yup, if you croak in Minnesota your family may have to have two services..one after you croak and another at the graveside when you are planted. Or if your relatives are too busy to show up, the Funeral Home Guy will just plant you without the customary relatives.

Now just imagine if you are the Funeral Home Guy and most all of your weeks work is Raptured..you could have taken the entire week off.

Far Guy told me all about May 21st and the Rapture..I asked him if I should call in sick and wait with him at home or just meet up with him beyond yonder.  I guess I will be home by the appointed time 6PM..time zone by time zone the Rapture will move across the world…I wonder if Daylight Saving Time was taken into consideration? Maybe I should be ready at 5PM just in case. How long do you suppose I should wait around before panicking..:)

Time for a bath!

On Saturday afternoon we had a puddle in the driveway.

Junco in a mud puddle

This little Junco must have been having a Saturday bath.  Maybe his first bath in a very long time.

Junco bathing alone

Far Guy, Chance and I  watched as the water flew.

Wanna share your puddle?

Junco splashing

I suppose ..here is a little shower for ya!

This little guy put on a show, we laughed..what great entertainment on a Saturday afternoon! The little Junco had quite a bath..and he did not relinquish his spot until he was good and ready.

Stand firm..even when other birds want to join you in your water hole.

Sunday morning the puddle had dried up..so take advantage of every puddle in your path:)

15,695 Valentines and Counting

Valentines Day..I am not sure why it is a big deal..are you supposed to love more today than other days?  Perhaps you are just supposed to show it today..with cards, flowers and chocolates. Another of those shopping commercial holidays..I say Bah Humbug..wrong holiday you say..maybe not.

How about those things you cannot buy that are shared everyday?   A hand to hold, a laugh to share, an inside joke that only two of you understand, a comfortable silence, a knowing glance that speaks more than words. 15,695 Valentines Days, one right after the other.  Everyday for 43 years can be Valentines Days, some are just more memorable than others. IMG_4289 Have you ever noticed that Chance sports three fourths of a heart shape?   He is quite a dog!  You have heard of wearing your heart on your sleeve..Chance wears his on his shoulder:)

Tracks

Sometimes I wonder... am I on the right track? Am I going into the woods or coming out? If I am coming out my feet are wet.
Am I on the edge of the road and going..right then left..and back on track .. then I think..even though the road is snowy soon to be muddy..I am near the frickin road..that's a plus! :)
