My Mother keeps many things. Imagine my surprise when I opened up a tote and found a fake fur coat I wore back in the early 1970's.
It had great pockets...but it was very short...it had to be dry cleaned until the day I threw it in the washing machine and it didn't fall apart.
I marked it a quarter and a young lady was thrilled to have it! I think my Mom was going to use the fur to make something and never got around to it.
Far Side
I had a fake white fox fur coat I think in the 80's. It was so warm! I did cut it up much later in life and made a teddy bear for the kids. It turned out great. That was the warmest coat ever!

ReplyDeleteI save quite a few things but my mother wasn't attached to anything...not een her kids--LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat's what we do...as long as there is a closet or a nook or cranny not already stuffed with stuff, we save.

ReplyDeleteMy mom was raised during the Depression so nothing was tossed unless there was absolutely no way it could be used for something else.I had a coat just like in the 70s only mine was black. I can remember the closet in my old bedroom at home had one of my brother's Navy uniforms that he was never ever going to be able to wear again. Wondering what became of them when they cleared the house after Dad died.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice coat! I could never have worn it because I wouldn't have been able to keep it clean. I do admit, I have thrown things in the washing machine that were supposed to be dry clean only.

ReplyDeleteI'm thinking I had that same coat. LOL It is fortunate that there are lots of people out there who love vintage clothing. I have a "vintage" suede calf length coat still hanging in the closet. It's about a size 4 - and probably weighs almost as much as I did when the coat actually fit me. One of my girls wants it, but she hasn't been a size 4 since middle school. So maybe one of my granddaughters will end up with it.

ReplyDeleteI remember coats like that which were very cozy in cold weather! I've saved clothing to use the fabric too, but these days I don't use it as much. Well, I have one exception, I still save some old jeans to make a denim quilt for picnics outdoors!
ReplyDeleteit looks really warm. She had that coat for a while, huh? My mom found my old pe bag from senior high school. I looked inside and it was all in there. The tennis shoes were classics. I told mom that she could have just tossed it instead of moving it to two different houses from the farm.
