March 26

Today is my baby brothers birthday.  He was born a long time ago on a stormy March day.  My status as an only child was never the same again.

Carey and Connie 1954

I was 2 1/2 years old when he was born.

In a few years he will retire.  He is building a lake house nearby, it has been fun to watch the house come together.  I have been the official photographer.  After 15 months it is almost ready for furniture…and that will probably happen later this week.

Living room, dining room and kitchen.  Beyond the french doors is the porch.  It will be a wonderful gathering place!  The ceiling is pine from some Norway pines that had to be removed and the oak floors are from oak trees that were removed to make room for the house.

Happy Birthday Baby Brother!

  5. So cool that they used trees from the property! Looks amazing!! Happy birthday to baby brother.

Both my brother and sister were born in 1954--one in Jan and one in Dec--so at about 2 3/4 I fell hard and fast from only child status--LOL! We have that in common. ;)

  8. Ah... the hard work, fun and sense of accomplishment in building yourself a new house. It's been 16 years since our "new" house was built...:)

  11. Happy Birthday to your brother! That picture is adorable! You are what my dad used to call "towheaded" with your beautiful blond hair. It is very special that trees from the property were used in the house your brother is building. I love it when things like that are done as it gives credit to the land and nature that was there originally.

You look awfully happy with that baby brother of yours in the first picture! Such a cute picture. His house looks like it's going to be great. Hope to see more pics as he gets moved in. How exciting!

  14. That the floor and ceiling are from your own trees is very impressive!
My first baby brother is six years younger, and I was his care giver in our big family.

  16. Wow - it looks wonderful! Very Scandinavian. And how great that he was able to repurpose the trees he had to take down.

  18. Beautiful home but too big! Who's going to clean it? You can enjoy it though! LOL! But I feel sorry for your SIL unless your brother is a big help around the house which most men are not. I'm thinking just a little 3 room cottage would be fine for me. Nice to have them close by.
