This time of year there is new and from the melting snow newly exposed old roadkill along our roads…they are a feast for an Eagle…and the ever present Crows..yes Crows eat carrion too.
This is a backroad we took to the parade. When we went there was an Immature Bald Eagle feeding. On our way back there was a Baldy feeding.
The Crows sure give the Eagles the what for.
The snow is melting slowly. There is still 13 inches of snow at the snowstick in our yard. We can almost taste spring…the gravel roads are real muddy.
We've had temps in the 70's over the weekend. Hopefully, spring is on its way to you!

ReplyDeleteEagles are great for cleaning up until the turkey vultures arrive. I had an eagle land in a tree above me while watering the other day! Pretty exciting.
ReplyDeleteOur gravel roads are starting to dry out but have some pretty gnarly ruts in them. My vehicle is starting to look the color of dirt. Bleh.
You mustn't have many coyotes to claim the road kill.

ReplyDelete:) we have gone past the snowmobiling.... we are now ready for spring too!! Things are put away and this weekend we scraped snow/ice from the parking area in the yard.

The robins have left here and are headed your way and the Bradford Pear tree is blooming here along with forsythia, hyacinths, daffodils and the leaves are popping out all over. It is damp and chilly and no sun but the grass is growing like crazy! It has been the drabbest winter and Spring I have ever experienced down here. I'm sure the sun will come out one of these days. At least you have blue skies!

ReplyDeleteThe smell of the roadkill was pretty overwhelming driving to town this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteWe still have Eagles here in Iowa. My guess is that they will be leaving for the north soon now that the Turkey Vultures are coming back. I don't think they fight each other ( seen them on the same dead deer and not seeming to mind) but the Eagles like the colder weather. Just my guess.

ReplyDeleteWe have been seeing eagles here lately too, always a special moment seeing them even if it is on a roadkill.
