Stupid Stoves

Last week it was the outdoor wood furnace.  It has a busted underground water line..and you know with the snow we have a repair will not be happening anytime soon.  Last year in April we had mild spring type weather…not so much this year. We are staying warm..but it is not at all like our wood heat.  The cozy warm spot in front of the kitchen sink where the water pipes run..is now icy cold..even Chance was confused..he liked to lay there and melt after a romp in the snow.

Yesterday I turned the oven on to clean..it got really hot and beeped and displayed error codes..and beeped some more.  I am not sure if the inside of the oven is cleaned or not because we cannot open the door, the lock will not unlock, and the fan is on and will not shut off.  We finally just shut the breaker off.. the stove top still works..if I want to cook which I don’t I will have to turn the breaker on to use the stove top.

Far Guy says, “I suppose all our stuff is getting old and will fall apart.”  Both stoves are heading toward that 15 year mark…as is the fridge.  I am sure nothing will happen to that fridge..I dislike it so much that it will last forever.  The Jenn-air stove I love..and new ones cost an arm and two legs…so we will hope this one can be repaired.

I am still doing my “winter cleaning”  and I am in the kitchen now.  I am having a blast:)

  1. I'm not much of a spring cleaning fan, but it's time to get after it. My appliances are 15 years old too. We've already replace the washer and dryer..I'm waiting for the others to start clunking and falling apart.

  2. My dad had a saying about stuff like that. He would say "I.P.O.I.O." meaning the "Innate Perversity Of Inanimate Objects." :-)

  3. I hope that's the last of your appliance breakdowns and that you are able to get the stove fixed. I haven't started any spring cleaning yet.

  4. :( not fun ~ we are in that same boat things here coming on 18 yrs old (knock on wood) ~ that is exactly why I haven't cleaned my stove other than by hand because I am afraid afraid! We have melted a lot of snow here the last few days... starting to see mud and even some drier spots in the driveway.

  6. Our appliances are all 14 years old. I'm crossing my fingers that they last another year!

  7. Unfortunately these things don't last...always a trial when you are retired and every buck counts. I can find nicer ways of spending my retirement income but they aren't necessarily necessities...like a stove...or heat.

  8. The wood heat is sure nice, I agree. Not sure what you are using right now, but hope the weather cooperates and warms up fast, well not flooding fast. Our coffee maker just died. Pretty easy fix though compared to a stove:) I too could go for a long time without having to use my oven, although if I'm making jam I use it to sterilize the jars.

  10. The hubby and I spoke of doing spring cleaning this weekend, but alas that was all it was "TALK"! You can always come to my house when you are done ;~) Sorry to hear about the stove!

  11. Your stove situation would be enough to make me lose it and I'm one of the most laid back people you can find. It seems that stove has a mind of it's own and it's evil.

  12. Isn't it always the way things seem to go all at once ! I like your kitchen . I also prefer wood heat it is even heat and not stuffy l;like furnace heat . It has been nice here all snow has been gone for weeks now and it is 50 F with sunny and cloudy periods and finally the winds have warmed up ! Good luck , hope all works out well ! Have a good day !

  13. We had our last stove since 1984 and decided to replace it about 10 years ago and move it into our rental house. Wish I would have kept it. Still works for our renters with no problems and I liked it better than the nicer one I replaced it with. The old one will probably outlive the one I have! Knock wood. Now that I've said that we'll probably get a call telling us the stove quit! :)

  15. Oh Connie...why is it that things have to break down like that...well at least you can use the stove top.

  16. Right now we have two tractors needing major repair to work again...it seems things run in threes...for both of us I sure hope not.

(Terry is working on the tractors, maybe by the end of today they will back out in the field...sigh!)

  19. Remember those old commercials about the appliances that used to last forever? I forgot what brand they were...but it doesn't matter...they don't make them the same now, anyhow!

  20. Two years ago we had to replace the refrigerator during the summer when the compressor burnt out, and the stove the week before Thanksgiving when the oven door broke :/
I guess it's your "winter cleaning" because spring forgot to come?

  21. We wanted a Jenn Aire, too. But by the time we could buy one, yeah, they are expensive!
Hopefully it's just the thermostat and can be fixed quickly.
    Have a wonderful week! ♥
