I bought an extra suet cage at the farm supply store. I cut up pieces of yarn and collected some dryer fuzz for nesting material.
If nothing else it provides a spot of color in the yard.
The next time I brush the black and white wonder dog I will add some of his fur.
Far Guy braved the snow banks and cleaned out all the Blue Bird and Chickadee houses. If you go out when it is early morning you can walk on top of the snow banks.
Yesterday morning Chance was outside laying in front of the window when a huge Hawk swooped down and tried to grab something in the snow bank..either a bird or perhaps a mouse. Chance and I looked at each other “Did you see that?” The Hawk sat in a tree for a long time..switching his tail up and down..he was high in the trees so my photo did not turn out at all. I finally went outside to see if I could get a better photo and he flew off..it was a hawk..which one remains unknown.
We still have snow at the snow stick.
We lost an inch of snow at the snow stick yesterday.
The trees are absorbing heat and melting snow. In a couple of days it is supposed to be 60 degrees..ya sure..I have to see it to believe it..maybe in town where the concrete warms up everything:)
Hopefully that stick will just fall over one of these days...soon.
ReplyDeleteThat's very kind of you to put the yarn out there for your feathered friends!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea for a way to put nesting material out for the birds. Sure hope one of these days all your snow is gone. Just pray you don't get all the rain we had right after the "melt". We've had a lot of flooding around here. Let's hope for a nice warm up soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely coming, I just know it. Your snow stick lost ground, that's a really good sign. Who would ever have believed it would still be showing snow come May????
ReplyDeleteI'll believe the forecasters, when I see the thermometer rise. I think they are just saying that to keep us all from jumping off bridges!!! We had more snow this morning!!
ReplyDeleteYay!!!!!! the snow is melting.....Love that idea of the bits of fabric, fur for the birds...looks neat too, Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea with the suet cage and I have an extra! Woop! The ravens have been on the front slope collecting some of the dog hair and grass and sticks that are laying out there but they won't come up in the yard where the rest is. I'm going to fill the suet cage for the little birds!
ReplyDeleteThe robins, sparrows, finch, and doves are busily making their nests in this area.
ReplyDeleteAll our spring birds are nesting here now to ! I always brush Miggs out side so the birdies can have her fur for their nests ! I do hope all the snow melts there and your spring starts for you ! We get Hawks here to eyeing the feeders but thankfully Miggs is out side most of each day and she keeps them at bay ! Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day !
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea!
ReplyDeleteFolks are joking around here that they'd like their one day off summer to fall on a weekend. I bet it is the same up there!
I leave Calli's hair laying around, and I've seen the crows picking it up out of the field.
ReplyDeleteMelt, snow, melt! I read that you used to live in Florida...maybe you need a winter home there:)
Oh,wow, if only I knew there was such a use for recycled dryer fuzz, I could have opened up a whole bird housing development ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's almost officially feeling more spring-like here although we did get snow/rain yesterday. Hawks seem to circle our property often. I just always hope they don't decide to swoop down and scoop up a chicken.

Good idea to put nesting material in a suet holder. So once the snow starts to go it goes in a hurry. The ice may stick around for a while.
ReplyDeleteYi-haw for spring coming!
ReplyDeleteIt always melts slower in the shade. But it DID get up to 63 today (Friday) over here in the big city of Fargo. Pretty soon even the snowbanks, thick ice patches, and snirt pile will be gone at this rate. It may take longer for the snow to melt there, but you have those precious, delightful trees. ;)
