Old and First Snow

It was my Mothers 93rd birthday yesterday.  She was having a hard time with my Dad.  We were supposed to go out to lunch but since they had a bad night and morning we stopped by to see how they were doing.   Dad was asleep, sometimes I think he has his days and nights mixed up just like a baby.  He woke up and had lunch, later in the afternoon he was moved into the nursing home next to the assisted living apartments.  Mom can walk over there to visit him.

And so it goes.

Far Guy and I got the high dose flu vaccinations yesterday.  So cross that off our list.  The gals at the Infusion Center where Far Guy goes for his weekly infusion take good care of us.

Grocery pickup was mostly uneventful.  The peanut butter shortage must be over!   Town was busy.

And it snowed.  In some spots the ground was white.  So we have officially had our first snow.   Early in the morning we knew something was up as our yard was full of Robins and Juncos.  I think the Robins were just stopping by on their way south.

  1. Happy 93rd Birthday to your Mom. Your Dad sounds like the way my mother was. So glad the nursing home is next to the assisted living. Sure makes it easier on them. We had the same set up for my parents. Not looking forward to snow around here any time soon. Have a great weekend.

  2. We had sleet on and off yesterday a few times and are supposed to get snow flurries today and some drizzle today.

Hopefully the folks in the nursing home can keep your dad from falling a lot?
Fatigue and sleeping a lot is something I am familiar with while caring for both my MIL and hubby.

Hopefully you can enjoy the crisp air and bountiful groceries....oh, and don't get sick from your shot!

  3. A bittersweet birthday. I had my high dose also; just hoping it is effective as flu is trending in my part of the country. No juncos for us yet; we hear robins but don't see them. We saw robins all through the winter last winter (southern tier of New York) for the first time ever.

  4. Snow?!?!? that sounds early. In Iowa we would have snow by Halloween sometimes. The facility where your folks are sounds perfect. That is so nice she can walk over to see him in the same building. Wish her a very happy birthday and I hope she gets some rest now.

  5. I'm sure the situation with your dad isn't easy for your mom, but it sounds as though the time had come.
Say it isn't so....actually parts of Manitoba had snow yesterday too. It didn't reach us here, thankfully.

  7. I'm sorry to hear your dad has been moved into the nursing home section. That is so difficult, but how nice that your mom can still visit as often as she wants.

We both got our high dose flu shots on Wednesday along with the latest Covid booster. No side effects for either of us other than sore spots on our arms. And I was thinking the same thing about peanut butter this past week. My favorite brand was back on the shelves. Yay!

  8. Well, that was probably an unwelcome birthday surprise, but your Mom needs to take care of herself too. Sleepless nights are a good way to do it. Hopefully you'll all be able to go out to eat soon.
Dennis and I got our flu shots yesterday as well. My arm was a little sore, a bit of a headache and possibly a low-grade fever for me but not as bad a usual when I get them. Dennis had no symptoms at all and he also got a whooping cough vaccine. I had mine a few weeks ago. Hopefully we're all set for vaccinations for awhile.
It's pretty chilly here today but no snow. Dennis just finished mowing. Maybe for the last time this year? That would be nice.
Take care and have a wonderful Friday.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. I'm sure your mom has mixed feelings about your dad moving into the nursing home, too bad it was on her birthday.

We got a dusting of snow overnight but it's gone now. We need to get our flu shot. We are due for the Covid booster next month.

  11. I hope your mother is feeling relieved that your dad now has nursing care. It is such a burden on her either way, but this should be better. It is indeed a bittersweet birthday.
Snow huh. We are forecast to reach 80 on Sunday. WE want rain.

  14. Happy 93rd birthday to your Mom. It's nice that she can walk over to see your Dad yet she can get the rest she needs.
My sister in Manitoba also tells me they got snow. I guess it's not too early.

  19. I hope your mom can get some rest. It is hard for a caregiver when it is just too difficult. I hope that works out for her now. It is not a birthday at all. Snow is the pits. Cold is bad too. I started projects that I may not get to finish.

  20. My grandmother had Sundowners dementia. She had her nights and days mixedup. It was hard on everyone, even her.

  21. I got my high-dose Flu shot yesterday! My arm is so sore and I felt a little lousy yesterday and again this morning. I was supposed to get the shot on Monday 10/10 but when I got to the pharmacy, they put me off until after 10/15, which was my actual 65th birthday, lol. The pharmacy wanted me to get the high-dose Flu shot this time. Yep. So I went yesterday and got it.
